How environmentally, socially or
economically sustainable are your
actions? Does that sound like an issue that
doesn't even concern your generation? The
MBA students enrolled in the newly added
Global Sustainability and Development
course think these issues affect each one of
us. In addition to participating in projects
focused on sustainability, these students
attended the Techonomy Detroit conference
hosted by the Detroit Economics Club. The
conference was a one-day multidisciplinary
gathering of national and local leaders about
reigniting U.S. competitiveness, economic
growth, creating jobs, and revitalizing cities
in a Technological age. Among attendees
were Dan Gilbert, Chairman of Rock
Ventures and Quicken Loans, and Jack
Dorsey, Chairman of Twitter and CEO of
Square. Pictured left to right, Carolyn Miu,
Elyse Mahony, Gerta Rapo, Stephen Brewer,

The College of Business Administration

Chapel led by Rev. Gregory Hyde, S.J.
The induction ceremony, which recognized
the professional achievements and
community service of four distinguished
alumni and alumnae, was held at the
Detroit Golf Club, and was sponsored by
the DTE Energy Foundation and CNA.
Several members of the Student Advisory
Board were in attendance, and had an
opportunity to meet the honorees. Shown
above are the four honorees: Armando R.
Cavazos '74, President, Synergies Plus,
LLC (seated, left); Joyce Hayes Giles '78,
Assistant to the Chairman and Senior Vice
President, Customer Service, DTE Energy
(standing, left); Joseph M. Walsh '69,'71,

University of Detroit Mercy
will host the 13th Annual Ethics Bowl
November 16, 2012
Student Center, Fountain Lounge
12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Ethics Bowl is inspired by TV's College Bowl, but modified
rules adapt the game to the subject of ethics. In Ethics Bowl, a
moderator poses questions to teams of three to five students.
Questions may address ethical problems on classroom topics
(e.g., cheating or plagiarism), personal relationships (e.g., dating or
friendship), professional ethics (e.g., engineering, law, medicine), or
social and political ethics (e.g., free speech, gun control, etc.). Each
team receives a set of ethical issues in advance of the competition,
and questions posed to teams at the competition are taken from
that set. A panel of judges rates answers in terms of intelligibility,
focus, depth, and judgment. No specialized knowledge in ethical
theory is required to compete in Ethics Bowl.
The 24th annual Michigan Collegiate Job Fair (MCJF)
will be held Friday
November 16, 2012 from

at
Burton Manor, 27777 Schoolcraft Road in Livonia.
This is one of the state's largest and longest-running job
search events specifically targeting college graduates.
Employers who participate in the job fair primarily seek entry
-level candidates for positions that require a degree. Some
employers will perform on-site interviews, so bring a current
resume and dress appropriately. Approximately 100
employers are expected to participate. Please register with
Ms. LySandra Hill in CF 121 if you are interested in attending
by Wednesday, November 8, 2012.
