The ISOFIX system consists of tworigid latching arms on the child seat,

which attach to anchor points at thebase of the vehicle seat back. Whenmade available by your Ford Dealer,

the two lower anchor points may befound in the rear seating rows andare labelled with a circular pictogramand the word ISOFIX.

The funnel guides enable the latchingarms of an ISOFIX child seat to beeasily and securely attached.

vehicle in any way as this canadversely affect airbag deployment.

Note:A loud bang will be heardwhen an airbag deploys and it isnormal to see a cloud of harmlesspowdery residue.

    The airbag system comprises thefollowing:

single-stage inflatable nylon bags(airbags) with gas generators

    side airbags

    curtain airbags

    seat belt pretensioners

    a seat belt reminder

    crash sensors.

    WARNINGS

Repairs to either of the frontseat covers, the sensors

attached to the seats as well as tothe roof lining should only be carriedout by properly trained technicians.Injuries may result if the side airbagsare triggered inadvertently.

Do not block, obstruct or coverthe airbag because it may

prevent proper deployment. Do notpoke any sharp objects into the areas

where airbags are fitted. This coulddamage the airbags.

Do not use any accessory seatcovers that are not specifically

designed for seats with side airbags. These seat covers must be fitted byproperly trained technicians.

    E66553

    WARNING

Always wear the seat belt andkeep sufficient distance

between the driver and the steeringwheel. Only when the seat belt isused properly, can it hold the bodyin a position which allows the airbag

to achieve its optimum effect. Thereis a risk of injury when the airbagdeploys.

The seat and back must be set

correctly for the airbags to beoptimally effective. See Sitting inthe correct position (page 120).

This is the ideal seating position forthe driver and front passenger andhelps reduce the risk of injury fromsitting too close to an inflating airbag.

The front airbags activate duringsignificant collisions which areeitherfrontal orup to 30

degrees from the left or the right. The airbags inflate within a fewthousandths of a second. They willdeflate on contact with the frontoccupants thus cushioning forwardbody movement.

    E72326

During minor collisions as well asoverturns and rear or side collisions,

the front airbag system will not beactivated.

    E78294

    WARNINGS

Repairs to the steering wheel, steering column and airbag

system should be carried out byproperly trained technicians.

Always keep the areas in frontof the airbags free. Never affix

anything to or over these areas.

These areas should only be wipedwith a damp cloth, never with a wetcloth.

    Side air bags

    E72328

A label on the seatback indicates thatside airbags are fitted. The sideairbags are fitted on the side of the

seatbacks of the front seats. In caseof a severe lateral collision, the airbagon the side affected by the collisionwill be inflated.

The airbag will inflate between thedoor panel and occupant. Once theoccupants body contacts the airbag,

the propellant escapes, therebycushioning the impact.

The restraint system, with beltpretensioners in the front seats, helps

to reduce the risk of serious injury in

a major frontal impact. During aserious crash the seat belts arepretensioned to help reduce slack in

the belt. The safety belt pretensioneris a device which removes excesswebbing from the safety belt system.

    PRINCIPLE OF

    OPERATION

The engine immobiliser is a theftprotection system that preventssomeone from starting the enginewith an incorrectly coded key.

    CODED KEYS

Note: Do not shield your keys withmetal objects. This may prevent the

receiver from recognising your keyas a valid one.

Note: Have all of your remainingkeys erased and recoded if you losea key. Ask your dealer for furtherinformation. Have replacement keysrecoded together with your existingkeys.

If you lose a key, you can obtain a

replacement from your Ford Dealer. If possible, provide them with the keynumber from the tag provided with

the original keys. You can also obtainadditional keys from your FordDealer.

    ARMING THE ENGINE

    IMMOBILISER

The engine immobiliser is armedautomatically a short time after youhave switched the ignition off.

The indicator in the instrument clusterwill flash to confirm that the systemis operating.

    DISARMING THE ENGINE

    IMMOBILISER

The engine immobiliser is disarmedautomatically when you switch theignition on with a correctly coded key.

The indicator in the instrument clusterwill come on for approximately threeseconds and then go out. If theindicator stays on for one minute or

flashes for approximately one minuteand then repeatedly at irregular

intervals, your key has not beenrecognised. Remove the key and tryagain.

If you attempt to start the engine withan incorrectly coded key, you willneed to wait for approximately 20seconds before attempting to start

the engine again with a correctlycoded key.

If you are unable to start the enginewith a correctly coded key, thisindicates a malfunction. Have theimmobiliser checked immediately.

In icy conditions, make sure thatthe windscreen has been fullydefrosted before selectingautowipers.

Switch off the autowipersbefore entering a car wash.

Note: The autowipers feature isintended for use during wet weatherconditions only. It should not be

selected in dry weather conditionsas the system is very sensitive toobjects such as dirt, mist or flieshitting the windscreen near the rainsensor. This may cause the wipersto wipe even though the screen ismostly dry.

Note: The autowipers functionshould not be selected when it is

snowing or foggy, or when the roadshave been salted. In these weatherconditions, select positionA, CorD,if necessary.

When the lever is moved to positionB with the ignition switched on, thewipers will cycle once regardless ofwhether the front screen is wet ordry.

Depending on the equipment fitted, when the ignition is switched on with

the lever already in position B, the

wipers will not cycle until water isdetected on the windscreen.

Alternatively, move the lever toanother position and then back to B,or operate the washer.
