Call Committee Update

The Call Committee for a full-time Music Ministry leader has been meeting weekly and having rich dialogue since the beginning of May under the leadership of Mike Macrina and Kirk Anderson. As Mike mentioned at the Annual Voters’ Assembly on June 15, the Committee is seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the search process develops and continues to hold true to the congregation’s vision that:

The culture and climate of PoP is a growth mindset and is reflected by the variety of worship opportunities offered.

Music ministry is an integral part of the church and is much more than a part of a service or services.

Music ministry is integrated into our daily worship and used in a variety of settings that include small groups, support groups, and many other events.

Music ministry is vital as we continue to grow the 21st century Prince of Peace church.

In line with the vision above, the committee reviewed ten candidate applications received and reviewed through the LCMS Southeastern District. On June 25, five video conference call interviews were conducted with qualified candidates and based on those interviews, three candidates have been selected for further consideration. The committee is currently in process of setting up on-site congregational visits with the first being planned for the weekend of July 22-24. The Call Committee would like to recommend a candidate before the end of the summer so that a call or contract can be issued before fall activities begin.

The Call Committee members remain open to questions and comments about the search process. The members of the Call Committee are Mike Macrina, Kirk Anderson, Craig Mosford, Jane Leeling, Helen Poe, Julie Eichhorst, Jennie Smith and Pastor Carl. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide this committee to find just the right person to partner with us in the ministry of Prince of Peace. ~The Music Ministry Call Committee

Dear Friends in Christ,

Every summer the Southeastern District, led by President John Denninger, hosts an outreach conference in the Richmond area called Tending the Flame. We have enjoyed attending this conference for several years. We give thanks for this conference and are reaching out in this message to encourage others to attend. This year’s conference will be held on July 29-30 in the Richmond suburb, Glen Allen, at the Wyndham Virginia Crossings. How will Tending the Flame bless you and your family?

1) Learning from fabulous speakers including key note speaker Pastor Keith Anderson.

2) Meeting members of our sister churches around the district and sharing best practices and building friendships. 3) If you have children or teenagers, they will attend the outstanding children/youth program during the conference making this a very special FAMILY event.

The bargain $95 registration fee includes all of the above plus three meals on Saturday! Check out the Southeastern District Website at http://se.lcms.org/ttf2016 to discover more information and to register. You will be glad that you did! See you in Richmond! Nancy and Mark Boriack

PoP Members Cast

Votes on Several

Important Decisions

During the Voter’s Meeting held last Wednesday evening, the Voters reviewed the annual report from the 2016 Fiscal Year (FY) Ministry Plan; reviewed the projections of the 2017 FY Ministry Plan; approved the 2017 FY Budget; elected Erin Summers and Julie Eichhorst to second two-year terms on the Board of Servant Leaders (BoSL); and amended the Love in Action (LIA) charter to align the language of the charter with the intent of the donors. The BoSL members are the “keepers of the vision” under the policy based governance model followed by Prince of Peace. The BoSL approves the annual ministry plan and sets the policies the Senior Pastor will follow as he implements the vision of the church. The annual budget provides the resources for the implementation of the annual ministry plan. Erin Summers and Julie Eichhorst join Chris Martin, Kim Robinson, Dave McLean and Leon DeBolt as elected members (and Pastor Carl and Jennie Smith as ex-officio members) of the BoSL. The new language of the LIA charter clearly permits the Board, which includes the pastor as an advisory member, to provide missional funding for groups whose doctrinal practice aligns with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The 2017 FY Ministry plan is built on the goal of engaging members in ministry through better communication, discovery of passions and gifts, and learning to share stories of salvation.

Online Giving Pew Cards

In the pews, you will notice a new laminated pew card for online giving. This card has two purposes: First, if you are making your offering gifts to Prince of Peace through bill pay, online giving or another automated process, we invite you to place this card in the offering plate so your electronic gift can be offered to the Lord during the service as we worship. Second, the Quick

Response® code located on the back of the card will take you directly to PoP’s website giving page where donations can be made online. You can do this anytime, from anywhere, but we invite you to make use of it in worship if it is convenient for you. Give it a try. Please consider changing your donation method of checks or cash to online giving as it provides the following benefits:

Enables you to give regularly without having to write a check

Helps to decrease administrative costs of the church

Increases the efficiency of our contribution system

Helps the church forecast weekly and monthly giving

Decreases the amount of time our volunteer counters

work to process bank deposits

Sparklers Luncheon, Next Meeting September 16

Our last luncheon of the season was a great success and a farewell occasion for two of our long members--the Hugging Sisters. The church staff prepared a delicious barbecue lunch and members brought delightful side dishes and desserts. The office staff (Stacy Crosson, Pastor Carl and Pastor Tim, with assistance from Roger Burd and Nelson Lantona) prepared a wonderful program honoring the sisters for their long and loving service to Prince of Peace. In remembrance, Marlene and Darlene also donated a wonderful Christmas ornaments to the Sparklers. After a lengthy vacation Monday Bible class will start up again on 12 Sep. and our next luncheon will be 16 September. Have a wonderful vacation and with the LORD's Blessings we will see you then. Faith Stories

Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming His people for Himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to Him.

Met a new neighbor and family involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. God continues to lead people of faith into my life.

I had a long talk with my daughter-in-law who is Buddhist. I told her what I believed in Christ, about redemption, and what will be in the after life.

You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

Thank You for the Love and Kindness

I give thanks to God for you! I am so thankful for all the love and support felt through hugs, kind words, cards, thoughts and prayers after my grandmothers recent passing. I am so blessed to be a part of the Prince of Peace family! We will gather at the old Ft. Meyer Chapel on September 7, 2016 at 3 p.m. for the funeral service. The interment will follow the funeral at Arlington cemetery. We will finish the day off with a reception at the Officers Club. If you have interest in attending please let me know by emailing [email protected]. Your sisters in Christ, Tiffany, Rachel and Keihly
