LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) prepares actors, directors, designers, stage managers and technicians for sustainable careers in the industry.

LAMDA Short Courses for adults (18+) cover a wide range of topics from Shakespeare to Stage Management. For young people (16+), its practical introductory courses and one day workshops allow participants to explore a variety of theatrical disciplines.

LAMDA’s Stage Management & Technical Theatre Open Days offer a unique insight into technical training at the school and backstage careers in the entertainment industry.

Each year, in partnership with some of the UK’s leading youth arts organisations, the school delivers a series of free regional workshops for young people. LAMDA also provides discounted tickets for school groups to see its students’ work in action in public productions at LAMDA and a host of professional venues across London.

LAMDA Examinations offers internationally recognised qualifications in communication and performance for all ages. In some cases these can count towards UCAS points to support entry into UK universities.

The Place (which is home to London Contemporary Dance School) is Britain’s busiest venue for dance. There is a theatre which showcases the best of international and home-grown talent, including frequent performances by LCDS students and special dance shows for and by young people.

Young people from the age of 6 can join evening and weekend classes and holiday courses, and there are two Youth Dance companies for performers aged 9-19. For talented dancers with the ambition to dance professionally, the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) provides progressive development for selected 10-18 year olds. You can even study for a Dance GCSE at The Place.

Making dance accessible to young people is a priority, and there are discounts and financial support available to help with course fees. In some cases (such as the CAT programme), you may not have to pay any fees at all depending on your family income.

You can find out more on taster days, and watch student performances at The Place, around London, and in venues across the UK and Europe. Some performances are also live streamed on The Place’s website.

This extensive programme demonstrates one of Central’s founding values in making dance accessible to both those who are keen to pursue it as a career of simply experience the many benefits and huge enjoyment it brings.
