AFS COLUMBIA PACIFICAFS Intercultural Programs
PENDLETON ROUNDUP – SEPTEMBER 13th, and 14th, 2007
You are invited to be a special guest of the Pendleton Roundup Association and the Pendleton AFS Chapter on
Thursday, September 13th and Friday, September 14th. You will travel by van with the other AFS students from our area.The cost is $80, which includes the cost of transportation, Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch. The Pendleton people have donated tickets to the Rodeo and Happy Canyon. You will be staying at the First United Methodist Church,352 SE 2nd, Pendleton, Oregon.
Departure Lentz Park (parking lot at SE 89th and Holgate) at 6:30 A.M. Thursday,September 13th...the vans will leave promptly at 7:00 A.M.
Return: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., Friday, September 14th... At the same place
Bring: Sack lunch for Thursday
Sleeping bag, foam pad/air mattress, and pillow (you’ll be sleeping on the floor)Toilet articles and towel (do not bring blow dryers, curling irons—there are no showers)Heavy sweater or jacket (it gets cold in the evening)Comfortable walking shoes (you’ll be doing a lot of walking)
Camera and film (take enough film with you as it is expensive at the Roundup)Spending money – if you plan to buy souvenirs
It would be helpful to be informed prior to the trip about the background of the Rodeo, the Indians of Oregon, and the life of the pioneers. Maybe your family can tell you. We will have some information in the vans.

Thursday, September 13th Friday, September 14thDepart Portland at 7 a.m. Cowboy breakfast at Stillman Park at
6 am
Roundup Rodeo...1 p.m. and visit to IndianVillage
Westward Ho Parade...10:00 a.m
Dinner - Western BBQ Lunch at church, about 11:30 - noon
Happy Canyon pageant Leave for home at 1 p.m.
Dance at Happy Canyon until 12 midnight
STUDENT’s….PLAN TO OBTAIN AN EXCUSED ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL FOR THE SEPT. 13THAND 14TH.
Please share this letter with your host family, as they are responsible for your transportation to and from departure site(Lents Park) OR you may arrange to carpool with other AFSers in your area. This will be a “no smoking” activity. We expect students who participate in this optional activity to refrain
from smoking. Not only does smoking make AFS students "look bad" in the eyes of the general public, but also it endangers our
ability to secure sites for future AFS activities. Students breaking this rule will risk being excluded from future optional events.
This is an optional activity for AFS exchange students only , so students are responsible for the fee. Contact your chapter, as theymay be able to assist you with the cost. To reserve a seat on the bus, please send the enclosed reservation slip along with a check
made out to AFS in the amount of $80 to Greg Kott 402 SE 44 th
Ave Portland, Oregon 97215-4072 Be sure and register early as we have a limited number of tickets. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.
