5F Cable and Cord FittingsApplication and Selection

Application:Cord and cable fittings are installed to: provide means for passing a cord, cable(armored or unarmored) or flexible conduitinto an enclosure, through a bulkhead or intoa rigid conduit form a mechanical grip and water and/or oilresistant seal for cord and unarmored orjacketed armored, round cables form a non-slip connection or terminationfor flexible cord, cable (armored orunarmored), or flexible conduit provide grounding continuity for cablearmor and flexible conduit

Cable fittings with sealing fitting or epoxy areinstalled to: provide means for passing armored, metalclad, jacketed or unjacketed and unarmoredcables through a bulkhead or enclosure inhazardous areas. These fittings are suitablefor use in Class I, Groups C, D, locations onlywhen Chico® A sealing compound or TSCepoxy (TMCX) is used to make the seal in thefitting.* form a mechanical grip and water and/oroil-resistant termination provide ground continuity of cable armorand flexible conduit

TMC (non-hazardous) and TMCX(hazardous) fittings are designed for use withType MC jacketed steel or aluminum metalclad cables with interlocked or corrugatedarmor and Type TC tray cable (TMCX).

LCC cable tray conduit clamps are used forinstallation on cable tray side rails with insideflanges (requiring inside tray mounting) andoutside flanges; LCCF clamps are for useexclusively on inside flanges. LCC/LCCFseries cable tray conduit clamps are installedto: provide a means of clamping metal conduit(rigid steel or aluminum, IMC and EMT) tocable tray for the exit of power and/or controlcables from tray provide a means to firmly bond exitingconduit to cable tray for best groundingcontinuity

TW series THRU-WALL BARRIER® cable/conduit sealing devices are installed to: seal cables or conduits penetrating fire-rated walls, ceilings or floors restrict entrance of water and dust andcontain treated air provide a seal for cable/conduitpenetrations through steel, masonry orconcrete; to restrict the entrance ofcontaminants through cable/conduitpenetrations into clean areas

TGC cable tray grounding conductor clampprovides a means for securely attaching agrounding conductor to cable tray to providegrounding continuity for the entire traysystem. TGC cable tray grounding conductorclamps provide a reliable method for carryingground fault current for equipmentprotection. TGC clamp may be installed onmost types of cable trays – with inside oroutside flanges.

Considerations forSelection: Selection of the proper device or fittinginvolves consideration of the type of cable tobe installed and the environment that willsurround the cable after installation. A proper matching of the cable and itsfitting is necessary to prevent physicaldamage to the cable when installed. Sometypes of cable fittings depend on grippingmethods (set screws etc.) which may lead todamage of the cable outer covering. CooperCrouse-Hinds cord and cable fittings utilizecompression of split lead or taperedneoprene bushings to provide high grippingstrength for adequate cable support andstrain relief without damage to the cablesheath. Compression of bushing provides a strongelectrical bond that assures groundingcontinuity. Compression of a tapered neoprenebushing, assures the watertight integrity ofCooper Crouse-Hinds fittings. Additionalwatertightness, to prevent water seepage intothe fitting body, can be obtained by use of apotting head filled with a hot pouringcompound. To meet National Electrical Coderequirements for electrical installations inhazardous atmospheres, a sealing fitting maybe required in conjunction with the cable orcord fitting.

Standard Materials: Cord and cable fittings 1⁄2 through 1bodies and gland nuts – steel; larger sizes –Feraloy® iron alloy TMC/TMCX – copper free aluminum LCC/LCCF series bodies – cast malleableiron; hook, set screws and clamping nut –steel TW series frames and compression plates –cast malleable iron; sealing material – specialelastomeric compound; clamping hardware –steel TGC clamp body – cast malleable iron; setscrew and clamping screw – steel

Standard Finishes: Feraloy iron alloy, cast iron and castmalleable iron materials – electrogalvanizedand aluminum acrylic paint Steel bodies and nuts – electrogalvanizedand chromate treatment Steel hardware – electrogalvanized

Accessories:CGB series: SG sealing gaskets – for use with locknutsto provide a watertight seal in slip holes ofsheet metal structures and boxes

CGS series: Sealing compounds – for use in makingfield cable seals in hazardous locations

CGB, CGK, CGD and CGE series: Wire mesh grips – for strain relief ofunarmored cable and portable cord

* With specific cords and cables when installed inaccordance with NEC/CEC requirements.

5F TW Series THRU-WALL BARRIER®

Cable/Conduit Sealing DeviceOrdering InformationOrdering Example A

Product InformationSelecting and specifying THRU-WALLBARRIER components is a simple procedure.Primary components for the THRU-WALLBARRIER consist of TWF mounting frames invarious sizes and TWB sealing blockassemblies for cable/conduit outsidediameters (O.D.) in 1⁄4-inch increments from.250 to 4.500 (6.4 mm to 114.3 mm). Cableswith diameters less than .250 can beaccommodated – consult Cooper Crouse-Hinds.Cable/conduit sizes can be mixed within asealing block assembly by inserting TWRreducers to accommodate smaller diameters. The use of reducers can decrease thenumber of sealing block assemblies required.More than one reducer can be used in asingle opening.Another way to increase density is to useTWB1111 and TWB2112 sealing blockassemblies wherever there is a large numberof cables/conduits in sizes ranging from .250to .750.

TWB2112

TWB2062

Shown here is a double-sided sealingblock assembly (TWB2112) sandwichedbetween halves of a standard sealingblock assembly (TWB2062). Additionaldouble-sided sealing block assembliesmay be used to accommodate largerquantities of cables or conduits.

Unused sealing block openings must beclosed with TWP plugs. Blank sealing blockassemblies TWB1 and TWB3 are used to filleach unused space in the mounting frameand permit future expansion of the system.Typical practice is to include spaceallowance of 20 to 50% for future expansion.TWB closure kits are used to seal entireframes and permit future system expansion.

Specifying & OrderingThe selection of components is based on thequantity and sizes of cables or conduitsgoing through the penetrations. Once theseare known, the sealing block assemblies andframes can be selected.Step 1. Group cables/conduits by outsidediameter (O.D.) and rank from the largest tothe smallest.Step 2. Keeping in mind that sealing blockassemblies are available in one-quarter inchincrements, group cables/conduits that fallwithin the same sealing block assembly O.D.size range.Step 3. Starting with the largest cable/conduit O.D., select the sealing blockassemblies required. All openings in each

sealing block assembly must be filled.Specify TWR reducers to accommodatesmaller diameter cables where possible andTWP plugs to fill openings not used.Step 4. Total the frame spaces required forthe specified sealing block assemblies andselect an appropriate mounting frame(s).Frames are available in 6-, 10-, 12-, 20-, 24-and 30-space sizes. Keep future expansionrequirements in mind when specifying frame.Specify blank sealing block assemblies to fillunused mounting frame space and TWBclosure cover kits to fill unused frames.Step 5. Check specification/order to be sureit includes 1) frames, 2) sealing blockassemblies, 3) plugs and 4) reducers.

Environmental Conduit SealOrderingInformation:It’s easy. Locate the conduitsize and type you are installingin the columns on the left. Thenlocate the seal and sleeve partnumbers under the installationmethod you’ve selected. Nosleeve is needed for cored orcast hole installation.

Cored or Cast HoleMethod:Note the appropriate holediameter and select the sealpart number. Example: For 3⁄4EMT conduit through a coredhole – Core a 2 diameter holeand install the conduit usingLink-Seal Part number LSA200-C-04.

Sleeve Methods:Select either the plastic or metalsleeve. Both types of sleevesare designed to be cast intoconcrete walls or floors. Sleevesare ordered separately.Remember to add the wall orfloor thickness to the steelsleeve part number to insure thesleeve is provided in the properlength. Plastic sleeves are astandard 16 long and can bemodified in the field.

Materials:The standard product forenvironmental conduit seals ismade from EPDM supplied withsteel bolts and nuts with a zincdichromate finish. These sealsare suitable for use in water, direct ground burial andatmospheric conditions. Theyprovide electrical insulationwhere cathodic protection isrequired. EPDM rubber isresistant to most inorganicacids and alkalis, and someorganic chemicals (acetone, alcohol, ketones).

Options:To order the standard productwith 316 stainless steel boltsand nuts, for corrosiveenvironments, replace the ‘‘C’’in the seal catalog number with‘‘S316’’. For example, a 1⁄2 sealfor rigid steel conduit for acored hole is an LSA200-C-04;ordered with stainless steelbolts and nuts the catalognumber becomes LSA200-S316-04.

Options:To order the fire seal for a 3-hourrating, replace the ‘‘T’’ in the sealcatalog number with a ‘‘FS’’. Forexample, a 1⁄2 seal for rigid steelconduit for a cored hole is anLSA200-T-04; ordered withoption FS the catalog numberbecomes LSA200-FS-04. A3-hour fire seal can also bemade by using two Model T’sback-to-back.

The Model FS is basically twoModel T’s back-to-back. InModel FS, a tie rod tightens bothseals simultaneously – for usewhen only one side of anopening is accessible.
