Cabrelli & Co Fall 09 Collection This season, fashion once again embraces its long time muse: The color black,

although this time with a ferocity not witnessed for many seasons. The Gothic, Victorian and Helmut Newton inspired Fall 2009 trends dominated by designers’ international collections rising the cry that black is, once again and most definitely the new black. Black is back!

Black is a non-color viewed as a symbol of death and austerity, and can

sometimes be considered an unimaginative choice on the part of the wearer. On the other hand, it represents sensuality and sophistication, often endowing those who wear it with a quietly powerful confidence. Which is why this collection’s palette will be colored by the darkest hues. The occasional shot of color that has crept in via the odd reds, blues, purples and greens.

London, England’s Victorian era mixed with the late 60’s and early 70’s

influences are setting the tone for this harrowing melodrama collection. The Victorian Era’s fascination with novelty resulted in a deep interest in the relationship between modernity and cultural continuities, which can be noticed in this collection by the mixed of material, colors and hardware. Also in this time period Gothic Revival architecture became increasingly significant in the period leading to the “Battle of the Styles” between Gothic and Classical ideals. Mixing vintage classical styles with the signature black and gold heavy hardware giving it a gothic look. The look is very dark, heavy and detailed.

In the following pages you will discover the 5 main styling influences which were used as visual tools and information onto which the styling and designed was based on.

GENTLEMAN’S QUARTERLY   Once again, girls discover new found fashion looks when borrowing from

the boys. For Fall 2009, stealing styles that are mainly masculine is what women will be up to, but making sure that an obvious feminine touch is added. Watch for hard edge looks in materials such as smooth and shiny leathers, gold hardware.

Warm hues blend together for subtle sophistication, while a shot of cool

grey offers crisps definition. Important fabrics include sweater knits, wool tweeds, silks, menswear shirting and wool herringbone.

HAIGHT ASHBUSY   Fashion pays tributes to the late 60’s and early 70’s, spreading peace and

love. It’s fitting that this trend emerges for Fall 09, accompanying changes in the political spectrum. Expect a politically aware yet peaceful fashion statement via handcrafted fabrics, handpainted details and embroided looks, plus beaded and macramé techniques, Fringes, tassels and braided cording accent handbags.

This toned-down color range plays off of black and beige for a moody

introspective look. These colors blend in perfect harmony, just like the message this trend captures, with a focus on tactile fabrics with soft, sueded surface.

HIGHLAND FLING

The open green fields and billowy blue skies of Wales and Scotland inspire this charming trend. Watch for textured Shetland wool, chunky sweater knits wide wale corduroy and traditional plaids in a color mix that represents the bonny countryside. Weathered and distress leathers and accented with golden tone hardware.

This rich color palette borrows its base from nature with shades of green, blue and brown serving as a background for the brighter accents. When these colors blend together in flecked wool tweed, windowpane check or bias-cut plaid, a true Scottish mood comes through.

SEX AND THE CITY

There’s truth in the saying “sex sells” therefore for the evening part of the collection watch for slinky, soft, sumptuous materials such as silk charmeuse, lace, gold lame and matte and shine combinations such as patent and suede.

Deep, dark shades of color, inspired by the rich tones of fine red wines, perfectly compliment this sultry trend.

THE ROYAL TREATMENT

Alexander McQueen’s latest breathtaking collection has inspired our trend for Fall 2009. Regally appointed details on fabrics along the lines of embroidered lace, encrusted stones, metallic threads incorporated into damask and tapestry weaves, as well as burnout velvet, create a dramatic sense of opulence. Watch for framed handbags and clutches.

Bright jewel tones best describe this color range with hues that light up a ballroom when making an entrance. Transparent and shiny materials best show off this palette in faceted stones, crackled surface, opulent finishes and metallic washes.
