The Cairnet network allows:

□ Continuous monitoring of a pollutant at odors source location. Supervision of each measurement point of in mesh network. Up to 4 different sensors available for one measurement location.

□ With the Caircloud solution: Real-time monitoring of the measures of all sensors by use of map display or more classic tables and graphs. A complete history since the network implementation is possible (up to 3 years for 15 minutes averages data). Access to the secure web space from anywhere and with several support (tablet, smartphone or PC).

□ By optional modules: Take remote control and management of the site by the generation of daily, monthly and annual reports. With trigger alarms after thresholds overruns. Automatic export to air quality modelling systems, FTP server, etc.

2.2 Principle of operation

The set of Cairnet and Cairlcoud is preconfigured at the factory and requires no other set up than the writing of the telephone network parameters of the M2M SIM card. This first setup aims to initiate the Network. The Caircloud creates configurations files in the FTP server useful for the functioning of Cairnet. In the over side, the Cairnet reads theses files and then, each 10 minutes (by default), write the measurements files (coded) on this same FTP server that the Caircloud picks every 15 minutes. Once activated, the exchange procedure between the 3 entities is as follow: The Cairnet, every 10 minutes:

a. Access to the time server by an internet connection. b. Access to the FTP server to read the configurations files.

Gathering the measurements of each of its sensors, creation of a measurement file by sensor and then they are transmitted to the FTP server. Each measurement files contains the 96 minutes (or 48 minutes depending of the used Cairsens). If a non-commination is encountered (unavailability of the 3G carrier signal for example), continuous attempts will be made until the transmission if done.

c. Waiting for the next dispatch (the Cairsens continue to measure). d. 10 minutes later, taken from step a.

The Caircloud, every 15 minutes:

e. Creation and writing of the configuration files (if modified) in the FTP server. f. Copy measurement files to the database and delete from the FTP server. g. Processing, analysis and display of measurements in the cloud window. h. Waiting for the next sampling. i. 10 minutes later, taken from step e.

One requirement is that internet access must be available for the PC (tablet or smartphone) and for the Cairnet (for to read and write to and from the FTP server).

3.1 Power supply source

The Cairnet use a battery which allows it to be fully autonomous 3 to 6 days (Depend of the embedded sensors types and of the carrier network quality too). The battery is a LI-ION battery [3.7V/19 200 mAh with short-circuit and overvoltage protection included]. The power connector, accessible from the bottom of the box, must be connect to a power supply source (outdoor main power supply or solar panels optional) or indoor main power supply provided with the Cairnet.

Depending on the use, 2 types of power supply source can be used:

Operating mode Solar Panel Power supply

Indoor or outdoor

2 X 13.5W _ VCO = 10.5V / ICC = 1,6 A Optimal conditions

115-230VAC _ 50-60Hz / 7 to 12 VDC _1 .5A Overload protection and overvoltage

Connector type and polarity Mechanical size

ᴓ hole ᴓ central core

5.7 mm 2 mm

The user must ensure that the power supply is always active and functional.

The Solar Panel requires a maintenance by cleaning of the active surface with a soft and wet cloth. The period of the maintenance is to be defined by the end user depending the use conditions.

3.2 Electrical precautions

The installation and use of the Cairnet does not require any additional specific precautions than classic precautions that related to the use of the components under electrical voltages.

4 TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

4.1 General information

The Cairnet is composed by one or several Cairsens (refer to the Cairsens user’s manual) and a 2G/3G communication system that transmits in real time the measurements and technical data to the Cairlcoud. Data are stored the Caircloud database where it can be display and analysed among various features.

Picture 2: The operating principle of the Cairnet nnetwork

As a reminder, the Cairnet network consists of:

□ CAIRNET 2G / 3G / set including : - 1 protective housing including the battery and the 2G / 3G communication module. - Optional: 1 photovoltaic panels kit (2 solar panels +fixation kit). - 1 to 4 sensors (UART Cairsens, depending of the order). - 1 indoor power supply [115-230VAC / 50-60Hz] / [12VDC / 1 .5A].

4.2 Technical characteristics of the Cairnet housing

Enclosure and its door are GFK polyester not saturated and charged with fiberglass. The wathertightness is ensured by a molded polyurethane seal “in-situ” all around the door. It is usually installed on supports which consists of stainless steel tubes, either straight vertical or angled. The maximum permissible diameter of the mast is 40mm

4.3 Technical characteristics of photovoltaic system

The photovoltaics panels’ kit is fixed on the same supports as Cairnet or other support. It is adjustable from 0 to 90 ° with regards to the vertical line. The Azimuth angle is obtained by rotating the entire system on the mast. The maximum permissible diameter of the mast is 40mm This system is then easy to connect to the Cairnet box through a plug-in connectors. Solar panels are assembled on a mounting system kit which allows to fix it on a mast (refer to document named ‘’P0116A.ABD.SYS.FIX.PVD06-0053-A.P10-2220-A’’).

The electrical characteristics of photovoltaic panels are given by the following table:

Table 1: electrical characteristic of photovoltaic panel.

5 START-UP AND DEPLOYMENT 5.1 Start-up

When receiving the network, the Cairnet is turned off and its battery charged at 100%. It is recommended to keep it turned OFF in storage conditions.

The user has to set up the Cairnet in a place where access quality to the telephone network is stable and good, otherwise the quality of the service and the autonomy of the system will be affected. A prolonged search for the network is energy-consuming. ENVEA-CAIRPOL would not be held responsible for unstable operation whose cause would result from using Cairnet in such conditions. Quick commissioning procedure:

□ Open the Box. □ Refer to the document « P0119C.ABD-CAIRNET V2 2G&3G-CONFIG 3G BOARD-FTP&M2M.En.120318.pdf»

Insert the M2M SIM card. Setup and fill useful information for M2M SIM card (APN, User and Password).

□ Start the Cairnet. □ Close the Box. □ The 1st transmission of the data by the Cairnet* to the Caircloud will be done 5 to 30 minutes after the start. □ Deploy the Cairnet on their final location. □ Connect Power Supply (Solar panels or main power) to the Cairnet.

When the network is installed and ready to be used, a conditioning period for approximatively 24 hours is required for the Cairsens before any use of them measurements (refer to user guide of Cairsens for more details).

* The Cairnet Network is preconfigured at the factory. If no transmission is made, it is advisable to move the Cairnet to an area covered by a 2G/ 3G/ 4G signal or, if necessary, to contact the telephone provider.

5.2 Sensors location inside the box

On delivery, the sensors are already positioned in their support. At the annual renewal or replacement, they must be positioned in their receptacle. Be careful to not block the sample outlet of the Cairsens (picture below).

To optimize the ability to recharge the battery, it is strongly recommended to orient the solar panel due SOUTH for countries in the North of the equator and due NORTH for countries in the South of the equator. Indicatively the recommended elevation angle is:

From April to October: 25°

From October to April: 45 °

Picture 5: Elevation angle setting.

Minimum requirements of sun exposure on solar panel allowing an optimal charging of the battery:

Solar power on the solar panel surface has to average 340 W / m2 (Irradiance G).

Minimum daily period of sunshine: 5 hours.

More information are available on the website http://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvgis/apps4/pvest.php If this conditions are not met, the operation of the system can be degraded and losses of data can occur.

5.4 Some precautions to take care

The following check must be done before any use of the Cairnet:

The free air around the Cairnet when mounted on its support. The antenna must be oriented towards the sky and barrier-free nearby. The connector and the inlet sample of the Cairsens must be pointing downwards.

The sensor is positioned in its socket so both its air outputs on the sides aren’t obstructed. The solar panel or main power supply must be connected to the.
