The school is one of the institutions along with family that plays a crucial role in building the wealth and health of individuals. Education has been shown to be a key factor in shaping the health of a nation. It is therefore vital that we look at what schools can do to equip young people with knowledge and skills at the highest level to enable them to be active participants in shaping their own health. Schools have begun to recognize these links and embrace the concept of a whole school approach in addressing health and social issues, which will assist them in maximizing learning outcomes.
We want The Orchid School to be also known as
'Being mindful of our learners' health'.
This year we want to focus on four main school-related outcomes:
Lifelong learning skills; knowing what is appropriate for each of us; mindfully and consistently doing it, so it becomes part of our life.
Competencies and behaviours; doing , making correct choices that impact health and making habit out of healthy life.
Specific cognate knowledge and skills; be able to know and understand the functions of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, and what foods contain these, and appreciate the cultural dimensions of food.
Self-attributes: Enables the student to cope with the pressures of body image as well as to use food as part of building social relationships.
We intend to look beyond the curriculum. Identify those components of schooling that impact our young learners. Attention will be given to the school environment - both social and physical health of all stakeholders. Health practices like daily dietary intake, water consumption, fitness practices, and sleep patterns will be gathered through surveys, and the data will be used for campaigns to build a habit of healthy life style. Our parents are the best resources so partnerships with parent community and the local community will go along side.
We aim to achieve this from a teacher-dominated, classroom centric, text book oriented, policy driven approach to a more collaborative more student-centered, inter-disciplinary, practice based preventive and promoting measure to holistic health approach.

Thus our annual theme is aptly titled as ''Health is Wealth!''
Leaders Speak
LAKSHMI KUMAR, DIRECTOR
Our vision is to get ready a community of successful learners for education beyond
class rooms, successful career exploration in a climate of respect and appreciation for
various aptitudes.
Every student and staff achieves academic excellence in an inspiring, pleasing, and
supportive environment where every Individual is engaged, supported, and is willing to
learn. We at TOS believe in developing each student's unique aptitude by engaging
students in
RELEVANT, EXPERIENTIAL
AND PERSONALIZED LEARNING
to cultivate creative problem solving, critical thinking, and innovation and to promote
honesty, graciousness and sociability. As a school we take pride in enabling our children to
become locally rooted and globally competent by celebrating our diversity, fostering a
culture of collaboration, trust, and shared responsibility. We are striving to join communities
in nation building by offering them the right environment and ethos to remain a learner for
life!
When students walk into the school building on their first day of school, I dream about how they
would be as young adults when they walk out of this school, after 10-12 years.
I also envision in what ways they need to be prepared, equipped and honed for life. As
educators, it is our responsibility to nurture students so they can create their future.
Our role is to create a school system that facilitates such a climate. As an institution , we stand
on the cusp of a great opportunity. We are committed to prepare our students for citizenship; to
cultivate skilled and passionate future entrepreneurs and workforce; to teach cultural literacy so
they become sensitive local and adaptive global citizens; to help students become critical thinkers
so they make well informed choices; lastly and most importantly to inculcate
LIFELONG VALUES, DISCIPLINE
AND RESPONSIBLE ADULTHOOD.
This is the essence of TOS education.
