CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Students should maintain high standard of discipline, courtesy and behavior both in and out of

the campus.

2. Students are not allowed to stand about or walk along the corridor during the class hours.

3. Strict Silence should be maintained inside the class rooms.

4. No student is allowed to enter or leave the class room without the permission of the staff

concerned.

5. Students are forbidden to write on or to deface the walls with their foot prints, or to throw bits

of papers or ink on the floors or to deface/tear the circulars in the notice board. Those who

violate these rules will be punished.37

6. Students should be polite, punctual and neatly dressed. Wearing T-shirts, Collarless shirts and

faded Jeans are not allowed.

7. Students are required to give an undertaking at the time of joining the Institute as well as at the

beginning of the academic session to abstain from ragging, eve-teasing, quarrelling, smoking,

use of alcoholic drinks, drugs and indulging in any other undesirable activities.

8. Requests, petitions, appeals and complaints of any kind have to be made to the Class Advisor

and the Head of the Department concerned and not directly to the higher authorities.

9. If any damage is caused to the college property by any student/group of students, then the cost

of the same will be recovered from the particular person/group, followed by suitable

disciplinary action.

10. Using Cellular phones by the students is totally banned within the campus.

11. Students should compulsorily wear their ID card with Lanyard in such a way that ID card is

distinctly visible, as long as they are inside the college premises.

12. Do not throw papers or ink on the floor/corridors/staircase. Put all waste materials in the dust

bins provided.

13. No meeting should be organized within the college without prior written permission.

14. The Students shall not collect money for any purpose without the permission from the principal.

15. Students should abstain from participation in Political party or communal politics.

16. Students who indulge in political propaganda or who organize fellow students in political

faction inside the college premises or Hostel or who otherwise engage themselves in party

politics are liable to be expelled from the college.

17. Strict silence must be maintained inside the premises of the college, during class hours, in the

laboratories and in the library.

18. Students are responsible to take care of their own personal belongings. For the loss of property,

the college is not responsible.

19. Change of address is to be intimated to the office then and there through proper channel.

20. Any property found in the premises must be handed over to the office with relevant details.

21. Every student should make it a habit to read the notice / circulars and other papers displayed on

the Notice Board and take appropriate action as directed therein.

22. No notice of any kind should be circulated or pasted anywhere by the students inside the college

campus without prior permission from the principal.

23. Students should desist from soiling the walls with their footwear mark.

24. Students must not behave themselves to bring discredit to the College.

25. Self-discipline is expected from every student at all common places like class rooms, library,

playground, canteen, common functions etc. Failing to abide will lead to disciplinary action.

26. In academic and disciplinary issues, the final decision will be made by the Principal.

27. Ragging is an offence and the accused is liable to be arrested and imprisoned in addition to

being dismissed from the college and shall not be able to join any other educational institution.

28. Any student who has been convicted of any offence in the court of law will not be allowed to

continue his/her studies in the Institute.

RAGGING

The Government of Tamil Nadu has banned ragging in Educational Institutions by passing

Government Order. “Tamil Nadu prohibition of Ragging Act 1997” - vide its order in 1997 dated

26.07.1997 which says that indulging in ragging will be punished as follows:

1. Unbailable imprisonment upto a term of two years

2. A fine upto Rupees 10,000/-

3. Student convicted for ragging will be dismissed from the Institution and shall not be

admitted to any other Educational Institution.

ATTENDANCE

1. Students’ attendance is given priority in the academic life of the College. It is imperative that a

student who secures a minimum attendance of 80% will be eligible to appear for the

University Examinations at the end of each semester.

2. Students who are absent on medical grounds should produce a valid medical certificate along

with an endorsement letter from the parent/guardian while reporting to College after recovery

from illness.

3. Leave taken under the medical grounds is not taken into account for Attendance.

4. However, students taking medical leave should produce proper medical and fitness certificate

from a registered Medical practitioner.

5. A student who is continuously absent for 30 days without a valid reason will be removed from

the rolls of the College.

6. The attendance of each student shall be totalled at the end of every month and entered in the

progress report. Defaulter’s name will be intimated to their parents or guardian.

DRESS CODE

1. Wear proper fitting clothes which are considered decent and acceptable.

2. Whenever formal days are declared every boy student is expected to wear a tie with shirts

tucked-in and come with shoe and socks.

3. Students shall not wear T-shirts / banians / sleeveless shirts or shorts /dhotis for classes. Shorts

will be allowed only in the sports field.

4. Girl students are expected to wear salwar cummeez with duppatta or saree.

IDENTITY CARDS

Students are issued laminated Identity Cards containing basic details along with blood

group, date of birth, contact phone number and residential address. The Identity Card is a valid

document to check the bonafide of the students within and outside the college. It is to be brought to

the college daily. If necessary, in unavoidable circumstances, duplicate ID Card can be obtained on

payment of additional fees.

DRESS REGULATIONS DURING PRACTICALS

BOYS: Full trousers with shirts tucked in with the closed foot-wear. The colour of pant and shirt

shall be as prescribed for the batch.

GIRLS: Overcoat is to be worn over the regular dress along with the closed footwear. The colour of

the overcoat shall be as prescribed for the batch.

Loose garments of any sort and chappals shall not be worn in the practical classes or during

field work.

KNOWLEDGE CENTER

The College has a knowledge center containing books pertaining to the various courses of study

in this institute as well as a limited number of books of general interest. The library follows an

‘open access system’. The library is kept open on all week days between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Issue Timings: 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on all working days. College library is maintaining a separate

internet browsing center with Wi -Max connectivity.

General Instructions:

1. The library is primarily intended for the use of students, faculty members and staff of this

college.

2. Library users shall sign in the register before entering.

3. Strict silence must be maintained in the library.

4. Personal belongings are not allowed inside stack room, reference section and digital library.

5. Books will be issued only on production of borrower card. Cards are not transferable. Books will

be issued only to the cardholder and not through anybody else.

6. Students are not permitted to sit in the library during their lecture and practical hours.

7. No bags, umbrellas, parcel, etc. except files and books may be brought intothe Library.

Adequate storage facilities have been provided at the entrance tothe Library.

8. On leaving the Library, all users are required to produce allbooks and items taken out of the

Library.

9. Reservation of seats is not permitted. Books and other articles left for anylength of time on

chairs and tables may be removed by the library staff.

10. The Library staff has the right to request a user to leave the premises ifhe is found to be

violating any of the Library rules.

11. Official time for determining fines on overdue books and for other purposeswill be read

according to the time determined in the computer system at theCirculation Counter.

12. The Library will not accept responsibility for the loss or misplacement ofpersonal belongings of

users.

CONDITIONS FOR ISSUE OF BOOKS

1. Books will be issued by the librarian only in exchange of the Student’s Library Card and on

production of Student’s Identity Card.

2. On receiving a book, the student must satisfy himself/herself that the book is in good condition.

If not, the student must immediately bring the fact to the notice of the librarian, failing which

that student, to whom the book is issued will be held responsible for the defects and damage

found on return of books.

3. Periodical publications, Dictionaries, Encyclopedia and other reference books will not be lent

out.

4. Under special circumstances, the Principal may refuse to issue the books or recall the books

already issued from any member without assigning any reasons.

LIBRARY CARDS

Three cards will be issued to every student to borrow books from the library.

Each card will enable the member to borrow only one book.

The students shall return their cards to the library on completion of their course.A fine of

Rs.25 will be charged for each card which is lost.

The duplicate card will be issued after a month from the date of payment of the amount.

The borrower will be responsible for any loss or non-return of books issued against

his/her original or duplicate library cards.

PERIOD OF LOAN FOR BOOKS TO THE STUDENTS

The books taken out on loan should be returned within 15 days by the students. The due date

will be stamped in the book slip pasted on the back page of each book.

Absence for the college will not be accepted as an excuse for the delay in return of library books.

If the due date falls on any holiday, the next working day will be taken as the due date.

If the lent books are not returned on the due date, a fine of Re.1 per working day will be levied.

The students who fail to pay the fine for late return of library books will not be allowed to

borrow another book from the library until the amount is paid in the library.

For prolonged delay in return of books or for repeated late return of books by any student, in

addition to the fine, one or two of his/her library cards will be forfeited for the rest of the

semesters.

No books or library materials may be brought out of the Library until the loan hasbeen recorded.

Unauthorised removal of library materials is regarded as a veryserious offence.

LOSS OF BOOKS

The loss of library books should be reported immediately in writing to the Principal through

Librarian.

The borrower shall be responsible to keep the books in good condition. If not, the borrower will

be asked to replace the same by paying the value there of. If a book,CD or journal from a set is

damaged, the borrower may be called upon to replace the whole set.

In case of loss of a book or journal which the borrower is unable to replace by another goodcopy, he/she will be required to pay double the charge of the published price of the same.

Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students in higher

educational institutions in Tamilnadu. It is initiated and supported by the Tamilnadu AIDS Control

Society (TANSACS).

Objectives:

To reduce new HIV infection among the youth through proper education on sex and

sexuality

To prepare the youth as peer educators and agents of change.

LEO CLUB

Leo Club is a youth organization of Lions Clubs International. The word L E O stands

for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity.

The Leo Club objective is to provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for

development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local,

national and international community.

Leo Club encourages youth to develop leadership qualities by participating in social service

activities. Leo Club members are addressed as "Leos." They conduct various projects in the fields of

health care, elders, children, differently abled, literacy and education and self-development. Leo

Clubs are sponsored by Lions clubs and comprise an official program of the Lions clubs

international.

TAMIL MANDRAM

The main aim of Tamil Mandram is to bring out the innate talents in students that can flow

conspicuously when expressed in the mother tongue.

The activities are multifarious. Our students marvel in Tamil Oratorical contests and debates,

thereby exposing and developing their language skill and personality. Well known personalities are

invited to judge their performance. Experts from outside are brought into, to deliver talks and give

food for our thoughts and also to nourish self-confidence in young minds.

Poetry writing competitions are a regular feature. A good number of students come forward to

take part in it and also bag prizes both inside and outside the college. Workshops are conducted with

the aim of imparting training to bring out dramatic talents.

A Tamil monthly magazine “Paridhi” is being published regularly. It is run by the student

editors and reporters.

The aim of NSS is to enable the students to develop their personality. NSS intends to create

social awareness among students and provides them with an opportunity to work for the common

people. It aims to instill a sense of consideration for fellow human beings in the students. It

underlines the fact that the welfare of the individual ultimately depends on the welfare of the society

as a whole.

AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIMENT IN COMMUNITY SERVICE

Objectives

Launched in the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary 1969, as a student youth service programme,

National Service Scheme (NSS) aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an

overall objective of personality development of the students through community service.

Motto: “Not me, but you”

Duration: Two years

Programmes

1. Special camping ( 10 days )

2. Regular activities (Community work) ; 120 hours in a year

Activities

Improvement of campus

Tree plantation

Constructive work in adopted villages and slums

Work in welfare institutions

Blood donation

Adult and non formal education

Health, nutrition, family welfare and AIDS awareness campaigns

Present Thrust Areas

A camp of 10-day duration will be conducted every year in an adopted village/slum on specific

theme.

NATIONAL SPORTS ORGANIZATION (NSO)

NSO will have sports, games, drills and physical exercises while the training activities will

normally be during weekends, and the camp will normally be during vacation period.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The department of physical education is headed by the Physical Director with two Markers

as supporting staff. The activities carried throughout the year from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. It is

covered with an area of 11,200 square meters located near the girls’ hostel with well laid out and

maintained play fields for the outdoor games., viz. Volleyball, Football, Tennis, Handball,

Badminton, Ball badminton, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Cricket ground, Cricket nets, and Athletic Track &

Hockey.

4434 Games hall is provided for indoor Games like Table Tennis, Chess, Carom etc.

In accordance with, our Management also provides seats under sports quota for sports men

and women in all the Engineering programmes. Activities of the department will be carried out the

whole day from 6.00 A.M to 7.00 PM.

The department will organize intramural tournament and the outstanding sports

persons will be honored with Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals and suitable awards during college sports

day.

FITNESS CENTRE

Fitness centre is dedicated to facilitate a healthy and active life style for its members. The

fitness programmes such as cardiovascular strength, flexibility, speed, agility trainings, weight

reduction and body shaping are provided.

The club will organize health awareness programmes among the students and public.

ADVENTURE SPORTS CLUB

It provides an opportunity to take part in the State and National Level Adventure Training

Camps and organizes adventure training camps for its members like trekking, cycle expedition etc.

COLLEGE TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURE

i) Selection trials information is sent through the circular or notice board to all the students.

ii) Selection trials will be conducted for all sports and games in the playground.

iii) Sports person are instructed to enroll their names with the Physical Director.

iv) On the basis of the current performance, talented players will get a chance to be selected for the

various college teams.

HEALTH CARE CENTRE

College has an in-house health care centre.

HOSTEL

MANAGEMENT

The hostels are under the direct control of the Warden. The Warden will be assisted by Deputy

Wardens, Residential Tutors and Hostel Staff.

Deputy Warden (Girls) :Ms.P. Mohana Sundari A.P/Civil.

ADMISSION

Application for admission to the hostel shall be made in the prescribed form which can be got

from the College Office. A passport size photograph must be affixed in the application form. The

student seeking hostel admission must give an undertaking in writing that he will abide by the rules

and regulations of the hostel. This shall be endorsed by the Parent/Guardian in writing.

Membership shall terminate automatically at the end of each academic year. Students who are

desirous of returning to the hostel shall make a fresh application for re-admission.

The Warden reserves the rights to refuse admission to any student to the hostel without assigning

any reasons or to expel any member in the interest of administration. The decision of the Warden

shall be final. Separate hostels are available for girls and boys.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. The students should stay only in the room allotted to them by the Deputy Warden/Tutors. They

should not interchange their rooms without the knowledge of the Deputy Warden/Tutors. Also

the furniture should not be interchanged.

2. The inmates should always keep the room, bath room and toilets neat and tidy. Students cannot

increase his/her own facilities in his/her room, as this might give inconvenience to the other

roommates.

3. Discipline of highest order is to be maintained everywhere.

4. Staying in the hostel during college hours without prior permission from Deputy

Warden/Principal will be viewed seriously.

5. Day scholars are not permitted to enter the hostel without the prior permission from the Deputy

Warden/Principal.

6. Boarders are not permitted to go out without the written permission from the Deputy

Warden/Principal.

7. All Boarders shall be present in the campus before 7.00 pm.

8. Students who are going home on working days should submit leave applications duly counter

singed by respective HODs and the Principal.

9. Mess bill must be paid promptly within the 10th of every month.

10. Genuine grievance, if any, should be represented to the warden.

11. Water should not be wasted.

12. Boarders will be held responsible for all damages to furniture, fittings etc. in their respective

rooms.

13. Lights and fans etc. must be switched off while leaving the room.

14. The hostellers are not supposed to come as day scholars without getting prior permission from

the chief warden.

15. Stern action will be taken against those who do not adhere to the above rules and regulations.
