Expeditionary, peacekeeping and border challenges in Africa are increasingly mak-ing better use of artillery and joint fires assets whilst ensuring greater situational awareness. Coupled with this is a need to increase fires accuracy with surveillance and reconnaissance and to avoid collateral damage whilst providing much needed support to increasingly complicated operations.

In the last five years alone, there has been an increase in defence expenditure to secure borders, defend natural resources and aid in peacekeeping missions.African forces are creating new Artillery and ISTAR divisions and are looking to secure new artillery, mortar and C4ISR assets to counter ever deadly asymmetric threats from terrorism, for border security and on peacekeeping missions before it becomes necessary to commit to a costly full deployment. Solution providers and those with direct experience are invited to solve these challenges at the Future Fires Summit for Africa this October.

Organised by Defence IQ, Future Fires Africa focuses on Ghanaian, Nigerian, Kenyan, South African, Angolan, Egyptian and Algerian (to name a few) challenges and near-term procurements plus recent experience from anti-terrorist operations.

ShieldAfrica, the international exhibition for defense and homeland security will take place in Libreville, Gabon, from 19 to 21 May 2015. The theme of this third edition is: Cyberwar and cybersecurity.

With the rise of Africa, safety for citizens and their assets remains a key topic in the development agenda. Indeed, investments coming from either public or private sources require a stable and safe environment to prosper. Such an environment is conducive to foster investor confidence and accelerate projects roll-outs. Those issues and concerns stand at the roots of ShieldAfrica existence since its launch in 2013. The most recent edition of the conference, held in May 2014, was centred on Disaster Management and Maritime Piracy. For its upcoming and third edition, scheduled for May 19 to 21, 2015 in Libreville,

ShieldAfrica will pinpoint two sensitive topics for Africa that impact people’s integ-rity and business environment: those are cyber-war and cyber-security. Headquarters, United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) will be conducting the USAFRICOM Partnership Forum (APF) taking place June 9-11, 2015 in Stutt-gart, Germany hosted by the USAFRICOM J9 Strategic Outreach Directorate.

The J9 Public Private Partnership (PPP) Branch provides USAFRICOM with the unique capability to build relationships with Non-Federal Entities (NFEs). The command is seeking mutually beneficial partnerships with commercial industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), corporate social foundations, academia, professional associations, international organizations, and other private entities.

The PPP Branch’s mission is to “operationalize” NFE relationships in support of USAFRICOM’s priority Lines of Effort outlined in our Theater Campaign Plan. The intent is to create a flexible operational structure centered on cohesive expecta-tions, realistic goals and practical operations between the command and interested NFEs.The APF is an opportunity for USAFRICOM organizations, our partner agencies and component commands, as well as others in the Stuttgart Area Military Com-munity to gain an understanding of NFE points of view and visibility of their capabilities. USAFRICOM leadership created the APF to serve as a conversational venue between DoD and a diverse set of NFE representatives about specific areas of concern on the African Continent. The APF agenda includes complex regional and trans-African issues that can’t be solved by a purely military approach and require a cooperative engagement strategy.

The intended outcome of the 2015 APF is to facilitate information exchange, the development of cooperative solutions, and operational partnering opportunities between the commercial and humanitarian sector and USAFRICOM.

The Marrakech Airshow has grown in terms of number of major world exhibitors, visitors and deals. The event hosted 14430 trade visitors from around the world along with 150 exhibitors, 70 aircrafts on static display and 230 regional and inter-national media.

The number of attendees rose with new pavilions, more countries exhibiting for the first time, a high level participation of major OEMs and the presence of numer-

ous helicopters.

The quality of visitors continued to improve with an important presence of the category CEOs and official delegations.

A large number of conferences provided the opportunity for direct dialogue be-tween users and industry, drawing wide attention.

This reflects the significance of the Marrakech Airshow as the African platform for manufacturers and aerospace industrials to showcase their various products to the African countries and meet market requirements.
