February 2-4, 2015Future Fires AfricaKofi Annan International Peacekeeping CentreAccra, Ghanawww.futurefiresafrica.com

Expeditionary, peacekeeping and border challenges in Africa are increasingly mak-ing better use of artillery and joint fires assets whilst ensuring greater situational awareness. Coupled with this is a need to increase fires accuracy with surveillance and reconnaissance and to avoid collateral damage whilst providing much needed support to increasingly complicated operations.

In the last five years alone, there has been an increase in defence expenditure to secure borders, defend natural resources and aid in peacekeeping missions.African forces are creating new Artillery and ISTAR divisions and are looking to secure new artillery, mortar and C4ISR assets to counter ever deadly asymmetric threats from terrorism, for border security and on peacekeeping missions before it becomes necessary to commit to a costly full deployment. Solution providers and those with direct experience are invited to solve these challenges at the Future Fires Summit for Africa this October.

Organised by Defence IQ, Future Fires Africa focuses on Ghanaian, Nigerian, Kenyan, South African, Angolan, Egyptian and Algerian (to name a few) challenges and near-term procurements plus recent experience from anti-terrorist operations.

The shifting security landscape and newly emerging threats require the countries in ECOWAS and the wider region to formulate national security strategies and frameworks that share common approaches and address shared security concerns. As key security stakeholders continue to develop and implement these policies, security providers will be called upon to offer the most advanced technologies and integrated systems that mitigate the risk posed by threats to homeland stability and tranquility.

Formally supported by the Ghana Police Service, Defence IQ’s first annual Home-land Security Summit - Africa, taking place 18-20 November in Accra, is the region’s premiere event for ascertaining information about the latest trends in homeland security and the most advanced technologies for integrating capability across multiple agencies and directorates.

ShieldAfrica, the international exhibition for defense and homeland security will take place in Libreville, Gabon, from 19 to 21 May 2015. The theme of this third edition is: Cyberwar and cybersecurity.

With the rise of Africa, safety for citizens and their assets remains a key topic in the development agenda. Indeed, investments coming from either public or private sources require a stable and safe environment to prosper. Such an environment is conducive to foster investor confidence and accelerate projects roll-outs. Those issues and concerns stand at the roots of ShieldAfrica existence since its launch in 2013. It is now in third edition as the foremost exhibition dedicated to defence and security in sub-Saharan Africa.

ShieldAfrica was originally designed as attempt to address those issues, while cap-turing economic and geopolitical angles. In a very short stint, it has now become the preferred forum for defence and domestic security government officials to net-work and brainstorm on solutions. ShieldAfrica is a unique hub for private players in the Defence area to meet with high-level African public decision makers.

June 9-11, 2015US AFRICOM Partnership ForumStuttgart, Germanyhttp://www.ncsi.com/africom/2015/index.php

Headquarters, United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) will be conducting the USAFRICOM Partnership Forum (APF) taking place June 9-11, 2015 in Stutt-gart, Germany hosted by the USAFRICOM J9 Strategic Outreach Directorate.

The J9 Public Private Partnership (PPP) Branch provides USAFRICOM with the unique capability to build relationships with Non-Federal Entities (NFEs). The command is seeking mutually beneficial partnerships with commercial industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), corporate social foundations, academia, professional associations, international organizations, and other private entities.

The PPP Branch’s mission is to “operationalize” NFE relationships in support of USAFRICOM’s priority Lines of Effort outlined in our Theater Campaign Plan. The intent is to create a flexible operational structure centered on cohesive expecta-tions, realistic goals and practical operations between the command and interested NFEs.The APF is an opportunity for USAFRICOM organizations, our partner agencies and component commands, as well as others in the Stuttgart Area Military Com-munity to gain an understanding of NFE points of view and visibility of their capabilities. USAFRICOM leadership created the APF to serve as a conversational venue between DoD and a diverse set of NFE representatives about specific areas of concern on the African Continent. The APF agenda includes complex regional and trans-African issues that can’t be solved by a purely military approach and require a cooperative engagement strategy.

The intended outcome of the 2015 APF is to facilitate information exchange, the development of cooperative solutions, and operational partnering opportunities between the commercial and humanitarian sector and USAFRICOM.

African Defense magazine will have a stand during the AFRICOM Partnership Forum. Stop by and visit!

August 25-26, 2015Armoured Vehicles AfricaGaborone, Botswanawww.armouredvehiclesafrica.com

Armoured Vehicles Africa 2015 is the African mechanized community’s Annual General Meeting, bringing together over 150 Chiefs of Defence, Army Command-ers Armoured Commander, Heads of Land Procurement, and industry executives from across Africa and the rest of the globe to discuss the challenges and success shaping armoured vehicles for now and the future. Held with the support and direction of Senior Leaders from accross the Africa military community, it provides a rare platform to share lessons learned and best practice in current mechanised requirements, capabilities and programmes. With a critical emphasis on interna-tional engagment the event provides on a very real opportunity to strengthen mes-sages of cooperation with counterparts from across the African continent.

It is widely acknowledged that armies across Africa need to possess and operate large numbers of armoured vehicles of different sizes and complexities to maintain their effectiveness in both peace and war time. However, the costs incurred in pur-chasing and subsequently maintaining the vehicles in a high state of operational combat readiness at the required levels of availability are extremely high. With this in mind the event will debate the critically important operational, procurement and technological solutions to these challenges.

15 October 2015.

It is common wisdom that “soldiers must train like they will fight”. The more real-istic the training, the more likely soldiers are to fight like they trained, that is, effec-tively and without of hesitation. The biggest problem with providing operationally realistic training is of course cost: major field exercises can be prohibitively ex-pensive. This trade-off between realism and cost, however, has been substantially altered by the rise of ICT technologies: cutting-edge military simulations provide impressive realism and immersion at the fraction of the cost of field exercises.

At the conference you will hear about training and simulation technologies, as well as live training, from major defence, military and high-tech industry stake-holders from across Africa and the world. The focus will squarely be on training - the challenges, recent developments, changing needs - with simulation as the key enabler.

You will witness live and inter-active demonstrations during certain presentations and during coffee/lunch breaks
