SBA Board:FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Greetings, I hope you all enjoyed the first five weeks of class without undergraduates on campus. Now that they have arrived, be sure to book your study rooms early if you plan on using the University Library and allow for extra time to find a parking space.

For all you patent nuts out there, SIPLA's High Tech Tuesday this week is an overview of the Patent Bar -- what it is, who can take it, and when you should take it. On Wednesday the Center for Global Law and Policy will hold a Semester Abroad Information Session. If you'd like to go abroad again, or never had the opportunity, come learn about the programs Santa Clara offers. With 21 worldwide locations, Santa Clara offers a unique opportunity to gain critical skills in a global economy.

On Friday the Center for Social Justice and Public Service hosts its annual Benefit for Justice. Even if you are not leaning towards public interest, the Benefit is a great opportunity to network and learn about what other students do with their spare time.  I actually received one of my first internships from someone I met through the Benefit.

As always, have a great week and study hard,Carlos Rosario

2010 Alexander Prize Presentation and Lecture

September 30, 20107:00 p.m.

Recital HallSanta Clara University

Shadi Sadr, a well-known Iranian human rights lawyer, will address the current circumstances faced

by women and others under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Alexander Prize Committee selected Shadi Sadr because of her ceaseless dedication to championing the cause of Iranian women and risking her freedom to defend those who are wrongfully accused and imprisoned. She has been arrested, beaten and imprisoned. She miraculously escaped to Germany. On May 17, 2010, Ms. Sadr was convicted in absentia in a Tehran court of acting against national security and harming public order and was sentenced to six years in prison with 74 lashes. Ms. Sadr has touched the lives of thousands of individuals through the entities she has established and her support of campaigns such as "End Stoning Forever." She founded the website "Women in Iran" and was the director of Raahi, a legal center for women which has since been closed. Ms.Sadr exemplifies the courage and self-sacrifice required of Alexander Prize recipients.
