Thursday Cruise Nights

For new members we have Cruise Nights on Thursday evenings during the summer. At 6:00 pm we meet at

the west end of Riverside Park near the tennis courts and rose garden for a bring your own picnic supper then at

7:00 pm we go for a Cruise somewhere. We have been doing this since 2005 so we have seen a lot of interesting

spots in Kamloops that you would not normally visit on your own. All ages are invited and driving Vintage is

not compulsory but encouraged if you can as that is why we have then so you get the opportunity to drive your

vintage or collectable. If you have suggestions for an interesting Cruise contact Jim Carroll at

[email protected] or call 250 374 7606.

LETTERS to the EDITOR Snow Warning {May 4

th} We have over 3 ½ inches of heavy snow and it is still coming down. I live just off the

highway by exit 336 to Logan Lake. Hope the snow is gone before the Swap Meet on June 7th. Don Lurkins

Hi Folks The plans for the 2014 Swap Meet are progressing well.

Steve, Don, and Jerry have the food side under control. However Steve would like to see

2 more as cashier volunteers as we are very thin right now. We also need an additional

dishwasher volunteer; times for these positions can be obtained from Steve Bell 250 828 0620

There will be a whiteboard at Dave Dickinson's stall #4 where jobs will be posted, so if you

have free time check the board and see where your help is required. Make sure to talk to Keith

Galbraith to see if you can help with cleanup, the more people we get the easier it is on

everyone. Hope you can give your time and participate in our annual club fundraiser

The club is actively looking for a 2015 chairperson so if you have a desire to head up this fundraiser be sure

you participate and form your own opinions. John Foley

THE KARATE KIDS: - I don’t know how many of you saw the movie “The Karate Kid” but

that’s how the 14 members that showed up to wash, wax & polish the Ambulance felt on Tuesday afternoon

before it’s photo-op on the Wednesday with the mayor. It was wax on and wax off, wax on and wax off. Lot’s

of fun and comments were made however when we were done it sure did look good. The club can be proud of

the job that the restoration crew did over the eight years.

Three of the crew got off from polishing as they were involved in doing a tune-up on the club’s fire truck so

it would be ready for the 44th

Annual Easter Parade. John, Keith, Grant along with Craig worked on the fire

truck as it was snapping, crackling & popping so bad that at one time we thought we were going to have nick

name it “Rice Krispie”. At first they thought it was carb however it turned out to be the ignition.

PHOTO OP WITH THE MAYOR [Wednesday Afternoon April 16th]: -

Dick came up with the idea that we should re-enact the original photo of Stuart Wilson from Wilson Motors

handing over the keys of the Ambulance to Mayor Fitzwater when it was new in 1952. So the Mayor was

invited along with the fire department to join us in the re-enactment at the old fire hall on 4th

Ave. We ended up

doing it three times. 1st time for us, 2

nd time for CFJC TV and 3

rd time for Kamloops This Week. We had a good

turnout of our club members and retired firemen that remembered driving the Ambulance when the city had it in

service. I know Dick had some night mares over trying to organize this venture but thanks Dick as it was great

way to introduce the Ambulance to the public and a get a plug in for the Easter Parade.

I don’t know how we get so lucky, but the weather on the days before and after our 44th annual Parade were

pretty brutal, but Easter Sunday dawned clear and crisp and the clouds didn’t roll in until later in the day. The

Parade of 130 cars went off with hardly a hitch, except for three vehicles that decided to act up along the route.

It was the first time in ages that Mike’s Towing was put to work and Virgil appreciated the lift back to his

house. The others had to find their own way home.

I cannot thank you all enough for those members who helped out with this year’s event as everything fell

into place with virtually no problems at all. I will not name names because I am sure to miss somebody, but the

breakfast was great (as usual), there were lots of helpers at the check-in line and helping to line up the cars in

the Westsyde lot, the RCMP and Auxiliary showed up in force and with the help of nine members of the Shrine

Motor Corps, the intersections were all covered and parade itself went very smoothly. It was great to see our

Austin ambulance out leading the procession and that it made it through without any hiccups. Down at

Riverside Park, we reverted back to the previous parking arrangement and, again with many helpers, all of the

Parade vehicles were quickly parked. Our ladies provided a ton of great cookies and the cookie counter was

busy all day and earned record profits.

Once again it was an over whelming success including the weather as Sunday was the best day of the week.

The day started off with a coffee and a Steve Bell and crew’s great tummy filling pancake breakfast.

Following breakfast came the lining up of 130 cars for the 1 PM parade to Riverside Park. A little confusion

on the line up as the parking plan had been changed since last year. There have been rumours that we may have

to change the starting venue of the Parade next year, but we have been assured that the Westsyde Shopping

Centre site will remain at the top of the list. Only time will tell and we will have to keep other options open.

Anyone have suggestions for 2015?

I always seem to get asked why we do the Easter Parade and one of the biggest satisfactions I get is driving

along the streets and seeing all the smiles and waves from those people waiting for us along the route. Old cars

are not everybody’s thing, but a lot of folks look forward to our Parade every year, and that makes it all

worthwhile. Thanks again to everyone who was involved. It was a great day! Dick

WOW! What is next?

No more Fix-a-flat, no more air compressors, no more spare tires, no more auto jacks, no more tools rattling in the trunk. Will it reduce the price of cars? Will it reduce the cost of roadside service? Will some businesses go out of business? Coming soon to a tire dealer near you. Look for ‘em in August They have been testing these for several years now. Resilient Tech was developing them for the military. Amazing new tires. Made by Michelin Tires... Absolutely SCARY looking...

SEE THROUGH TIRES Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part Of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these. Just think of the impact on existing technology: Just think: - A. No more air valves.. B. No more air compressors at gas stations... C. No more repair kits.. D. No more flats... I wonder what the check in crew at the 2040 Easter Parade will do as far as the car being original when these show up.

DID YOU KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM?

Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV's or radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs, and bars. They were told to 'go sip some Ale and listen to people's conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times. 'You go sip here' and 'You go sip there.' The two words 'go sip' were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term 'gossip.'
