Standing Rules of Bridges District United Methodist Women

CA-NV Conference

The Constitution and By-Laws of Bridges District are those published by the Women's Division of the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. These Standing Rules are a supplement to the aforementioned Constitution and By-Laws and have been adopted to facilitate the work of the Bridges District UMW. I. Voting Body

The voting members at the Annual Meeting of Bridges District United Methodist Women shall include all members in local units and district members of the Bridges District.

II. Nominations and Elections

A. District Officers of the UMW shall be elected at the Annual Meeting for a two-year term and shall assume their duties on January 1 following the election.

B. The following officers shall be elected in odd-numbered years: President, Secretary, Mission Coordinator for Spiritual Growth, Mission Coordinator for Membership, Nurture & Outreach and Secretary of Program Resources.

C. The following officers shall be elected in even-numbered years: Vice President, Treasurer, Mission Coordinator for Education & Interpretation, Mission Coordinator for Social Action and Communication Coordinator.

D. The Chairperson of Nominations is elected for a two-year term and serves as a member of the Executive Committee.

Nominations Committee members are elected for a four-year term. The Committee on Nominations shall consist of 5 – 11 members. The committee shall be representative of the membership of the district in matters of employment, age, and racial and ethnic background. Consideration shall be given to geographic representation of the district. The committee shall be divided into classes with no member serving more than one four-year term.

E. When an elected officer is unable to fulfill the duties of her office, the President with the Chairperson of the Committee on Nominations, shall contact her to determine the reasons. If the problem is not resolved, it will be brought to the Administrative Committee. If the agreed solution is not met within the time frame given, the Administrative Committee will review and recommend to the Executive Committee that the officer be removed from her office.

III. Committees

A. Executive Committee: Membership of this committee shall be include the President, as chairperson, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, the chairperson of the Committee on Nominations, the mission coordinators, the secretary of program resources, the communications coordinator, the chairpersons of other committees and the District Superintendent. The Executive Committee shall meet as needed to fulfill the work of the district, usually three times a year. The Secretary shall assist the President in matters of parliamentary procedure. B. Administrative Committee: Membership of this committee shall include the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chairperson of the Committee on Nominations.

C. Other Committees: • There shall be committees on Program; Finance; Membership,

Nurture & Outreach and Nominations in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws.

• There shall be a Committee on Standing Rules consisting of the Secretary as chairperson and two other persons appointed by the President.

• Members of these committees shall meet at least semiannually, and on call of the chairperson

IV. A copy of the District Standing Rules shall be provided to the Conference UMW Secretary. V. The district shall conform to the Conference UMW Policy for Use of A&MD Funds sections I – XIV as they apply to districts. VI. These standing rules of the Bridges District United Methodist Women may be amended by a majority vote of those attending the Annual Meeting of the Bridges District, provided that the proposed amendments have been presented in writing to the Executive Committee and then recommended by the Executive Committee to the District organization of United Methodist Women at least 30 days before the Bridges District UMW Annual Meeting.
