“Called”How can you tell when something in your
life is a calling from God? By Christian Piatt
“It would be so much easier if God spoke to us through burning bushes or from boiling clouds, or even just sent a text message. But unfortunately, we’re expected to discern what God’s call is on our life, without specific, written-down instructions, custom made for each of us on what to do…”
“Called”How can you tell when something in your
life is a calling from God? By Christian Piatt
“…For me, I can usually tell if something is a calling if it meets two criteria; the thought of doing it has to exhilarate and terrify, more or less in equal measure. This isn’t all there is to it, of course, or else the fact that I jumped off of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas for my 40th birthday would qualify as a divine calling. It also has to tap into my existing spiritual gifts, and it needs to meet a need I see in the world.”

Does the Bible speak of this as being “called” by God to do something?
No
“Called”1. Human beings are called by the gospel (2
Thess. 2:13-14; Rom. 1:16-17).
2. Those who obey are “called to be saints (i.e. set apart)” (1 Cor. 1:2).
3. They are called unto His kingdom (1 Thess. 2:10-12).
“Called”4. They are called into fellowship with
Christ (1 Cor. 1:9).
5. They are called to walk (or live) worthy of this calling (Eph. 4:1-3).
6. It is a call to inherit a blessing (1 Pet. 3:8-9).
“Called”7. It is a holy calling (2 Tim 1:8-9).
8. It is a heavenly calling (Heb. 3:1-2).
9. It is a call to glorify God (2 Thess. 1:11-12).
10. Our condition when we obey is considered a “calling” (1 Cor. 7:20-22).
But this is not a personaldirect call from God!
“Called”Why does it matter if people say this?
1. It is not scriptural (1 Pet. 4:11).
2. It contributes to unbelief (Ezek. 13:3).
3. It causes God’s name to be blasphemed (Rom. 2:23-24).
