Crest of Honor Winner Mr. Wayne Thompson

This month's Crest of Honor winner is Mr. Wayne Thompson who teaches Engineering here at Cambridge High School. This teacher works tirelessly for students, helping them acclimate to the challenges and standards of high school and beyond. He has created opportunities for his students to go well beyond the basic curriculum and engage in authentic scientific exploration. Mr. Thompson has led student organizations to numerous awards on a local, state, and national level. In a recent competition he led his TSA students to a first place finish by coming up with a creative theme for them to display their canned food project. The students decided to pay-it-forward by giving their $250 award to the CBI program.

Attendance Reminders

Pre-approved Absences

To obtain a pre-approved absence from a typical school day for travel, personal reasons, or college visits, your student must pick up a pre-approval form from the Attendance Office and have the form signed by each teacher, as well as the student's parent or guardian. The form must be returned to the Attendance Office at least three days prior to the date of the absence. Any

notes for personal travel or college visitation without a pre-approved absence form will not be excused. Please note that pre-approved absences cannot be granted during the final three weeks of each semester.

Student Check-out

If your student is to be checked out during the school day, a parent note should be given to the Attendance Office when the student arrives at school that morning. The student will then be given a pass to leave their classroom at the assigned time for check-out. The student simply stops at the Attendance Office and signs out; a parent or guardian does not have to sign them out. By following this process you will expedite the check-out process and minimize classroom disruptions.

If your student did not receive a note for check out, please allow time for the Attendance Office to send an office aide to the classroom to deliver a check out note to your student. The office will not disrupt the classroom by calling into the room for checkout. Checkouts without pre-arranged notes are not allowed after 3:10 pm.

Excused Absences

For a complete list of excused absences, please refer to attendance page available on the web site. To excuse an absence, the Attendance Office must receive a parent note within three days of the absence. Check outs or absences not on the approved absence list will be considered unexcused.

From the Clinic Karen Thimsen, Clinic Assistant

If your student needs to take any prescription medication during the school day (an ADD/ADHD booster, antibiotic that is more than twice daily), a parent must bring the medication in the original, labeled container and a completed SHS-1, found here, signed by both a parent and health care provider, to the clinic. Per Fulton County Schools' policy, these types of prescription medications must have a doctor's signature on the SHS-1 form to allow me to administer the medication.
