CAMBRIDGE YOUNG LEARNERS EXAMINATION, BEYONDIA STUDENTS PERFORMANCE

On September 16th 2017, twenty students from BEYONDIA took the Cambridge Young Learners Examination and the result was successful. They all received the YLE Starters Certificate from Cambridge University, London.

WHAT IS CAMBRIDGE YLE ?The Cambridge University YLE test is a series of tests designed to assess language skills of children aged between 7 and 12 through testing three areas: Listening, Reading & Writing and Speaking. Each area will show 4 shields on the back of the Certificate. The shields have 5 points attached to it. A students performance will show in bold on the shields: 1 minimum to 5 maximum.

The YLE three levels: Starters, Movers and Flyers offers the opportunity of a gradual evolution, helping children to acquire language skills naturally and at the same time to gain confidence in their own knowledge.

Below is the YLE Starters test format which our students successfully passed.

ANALYSING OUR STUDENTS PERFORMANCEOur BEYONDIA students result showed very high performance in the area of Listening and Speaking. Most of our students got 4 ~ 5 shields in Listening and Speaking, which is fairly high compared to Japanese students in general. Normally, in Japan most students will score better in reading and writing but find listening and speaking challenging. The high score in the listening and speaking area is directly proportional to the communication based curriculum we use in our English program. Our students had therefore maintained high score in the areas where they had maximum exposures.

ケンブリッジ英検に関するBEYONDIA生徒の結果について9月16日、BEYONDIAの20名の生徒がケンブリッジ英検ヤングラーナーズ試験（YLE）を受験し、全員が優秀な成績を収めました。ロンドンのケンブリッジ大学より証書をいただきました。YLEとは、7歳から12歳の児童を対象に、読み書き、聞き取り、スピーキングを含めた3セクション4技能の能力を図るものです。結果はそれぞれ5段階評定で示されます。YLEは、スターターズ、ムーバーズ、フライヤーズと徐々にレベルが上がっていきます。子どもたちは自然に語学が上達し、自信をつけていきます。テストの形式及び結果は表の通りです。BEYONDIAの生徒たちは聞き取りやスピーキングで4 -5 の得点と非常に良い成績を出していることがわかります。これは平均的な日本人の成績と比べてかなり高いものであり、コミュニケーションをベースとしたBEYONDIAのプログラムからすると当然の結果とも言えます。

BEYONDIA to introduce Cambridge Curriculum and Tests from January 2018Our students who took the Cambridge YLE Starters exams in September 2017 will move from GrapeSEED curriculum to the Cambridge Curriculum from January 2018. This will help them to prepare well for the YLE Movers and Flyers test in the future. They will also make a transition from a communication based approach to a literacy based approach, covering all the four English skills of Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening.

2018年1月よりケンブリッジカリキュラムとケンブリッジ英検を開始2017年9月にYLEスターターズテストを受験した生徒は、2018年1月よりグレープシードからケンブリッジカリキュラムに移行します。これは将来的なYLEムーバーズ、フライヤーズ受験への備えとなると同時に、コミュニケーションをベースとしたアプローチから読み書きをベースとしたアプローチへの移行でもあり、読む・話す・書く・聴くといった4つのスキルを全てカバーするものとなります。ケンブリッジYLEの3つのレベルについては、表を見てご確認ください。
