For Immediate Release October 1, 2016 Contact: Donna Jean Liss [email protected] 805-884-8410 CAMERATA PACIFICA’S NOVEMBER PROGRAM: From Bach to the Beguilingly Unfamiliar James Austin Smith, Paolo Bordignon Acclaimed chamber music ensemble Camerata Pacifica offers a program of works ranging from the 18 th to the 21 st centuries. Harpsichordist Paolo Bordignon offers the extremes of J.S. Bach’s musical pedagogy, with the F Major Two-Part Invention and the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue. Counterpoint and color is further explored in Bach’s Trio Sonata in G major, BWV 1038, with the harpsichord’s potential for contemporary music displayed in chamber works by Henri Dutilleux and Elliott Carter. American oboist James Austin Smith makes his Camerata debut in these works, joined by Camerata regulars Adrian Spence, Ani Aznavoorian, Timothy Eckert & Ji Hye Jung. The second part of the concert features the marimba, with the flute in the recent Japanese work, Naoko Hishinuma’s On a Full Moon Night, and in two recent works for percussion and cello; Andy Akiho’s Bach-inspired 21, and Pulitzer- Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s Boris Kerner. Shaw’s music has been described as “a beguiling combination of the familiar and the bracingly unusual,” an apt description of this program, as well.
