On May 17, Miller was out driving with two pas- sengers in the Hollywood Hills area when he crashed his 2016 G-Wagon into a utility pole at around 1 a.m., TMZ was first to break the story. Following the crash, Miller and his friends fled on foot to the rapper’s home. Authorities were able to run the plates of the damaged vehicle and arrested Miller at his home, following a confession from the musi- cian. He was taken into custody for hit-and-run and driving under the influence. He was held on a $15,000 bail and was released a couple hours later. The hit-and-run charges were dropped, but the rapper was charged by the Los Angeles City Attor- ney’s Office with two counts of DUI for driving under the influence and driving with a BAC over 0.08. This is not Miller’s first run-in with the law, back in 2011 he was arrested in New York for possession of marijuana. The case was later settled in court. If Miller is convicted, he could face a jail sentence of up to 6 months and a fine of $1,000. Miller, 26, whose real name is Malcolm Mc- Cormick, started rapping when he was 14 years old. He released his first album “But My Mackin Aint Easy” in 2007. Cowell’s friends and fam- ily members gathered to cel- ebrate the TV personality known for producing and judging on talent shows in- cluding Fox’s “American Idol” and “The X-Factor,” which have thrust the ca- reers of artists like Kelly Clarkson, One Direction and Carrie Underwood. He got his start across the pond as one of the children of music industry executive and real estate agent Philip Cowell and ballet dancer Julie Brett. Born on October 7, 1959, Cowell was raised in Elstree and attended a boarding school in Dover. After dropping out of school at the age of 16, Cow- ell took his first steps in what would be a lucrative ca- reer in the entertainment in- dustry. He worked as a run- ner at Elstree stuidios and worked in the mailroom for EMI Music Publishing, where his father worked. He was later promoted as a talent scout for the pub- lishing company. At around 10 p.m., the alleged burglar smashed a glass window in an attempt to get inside the home lo- cated in the San Fernando Valley region. Upon hear- ing the noise of the shat- tered glass, Thorne went outside to investigate what was going on, TMZ reported. She re-entered the home and contacted authorities. Officers from the Los An- geles Police Department ar- rived at the home to inves- tigate, but did not find the person responsible for the attempted break-in. Au- thorities stated to the press that Thorne might have scared away the burglar away when she went outside to check the noise. Thorne’s home is not the only celebrity home to be re- cently broken into. Singer John Mayer’s home was bur- glarized two weeks ago and between $100,000 and $200,000 worth of personal items were stolen from his Beverly Hills residence. Gasca was accused of scamming renters by pushing back move-in-dates and refusing to fully refund security de- posits and first month’s rent. Gasca posted an adver- tisement for a room for rent on Craigslist. When inter- ested renters contacted him, he would ask for and collect a security deposit and the first month’s rent. Citing a death in the current tenant’s family, Gasca would tell renters that the room would not be available on the con- tracted date. The LAPD Blog reported that Gasca would come up with various excuses until the victims demanded their money back. Many of the victims never received a full refund. Detectives have rea- son to believe Mr. Gasca continued to similarly de- fraud victims in the Holly- wood area. Before his arrest in July, Gasca was sentenced in 2010 to seven years in prison for sneaking camcorders into movies and selling pirated films. According to Variety, he was convicted in June 2005 on three accounts of copyright infringement. He calls himself the “Prince of Piracy.” The FBI reported on its website that Gasca has a long criminal history in- cluding petit larceny, as- sault with intent to cause se- rious injury with a weapon after shooting someone in the face with a handgun, and spent time in a New York prison. When he ar- rived in Hollywood in 2002, he pirated movies by hang- ing around theaters where advance screenings were scheduled. He would pose as a movie industry insider and “rig his camera to the arm rest for stability…and start filming when the lights went down.” Gasca noted in a diary that he was able to earn close to $4,500 a week from pirating movies including “The Core,” “8 Mile,” and “Anger Management.” He was charged in 2003 and became the first person ever indicted on federal charges of movie piracy, states the FBI.gov website. LAPD officials are seeking additional victims of Gasca’s renting scam. The California High- way Patrol closed all west- bound lanes for over an hour as a result of the crash. According to the CHP, the incident was reported at around 4:38 a.m., just west of De Soto Avenue. Drivers were directed to use Ven- tura Avenue Boulevard as an alternate route for their commute. Debris was re- portedly spotted scattered across the freeway. Traffic was backed up all the way down to Tampa Avenue fol- lowing the crash. The exact cause of the in- cident is still under inves- tigation. According to the CHP, all lanes on the 101 were reopened after 6:00 a.m. after the region was cleared. Canyon News spoke with a representative from the Communications Center at the CHP about the colli- sion. “It looks like there were possible injuries… (although) they declined paramedics after the fire department came out,” said the representative. Young, 33, was driving when he was stopped by of- ficers during at a traffic stop at 11:55 p.m. After refusing to cooperate with officers he was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. TMZ released a video of the basketball star yelling at of- ficers “Am I resisting?” while being handcuffed and placed into a police cruiser. Young was taken into cus- tody, but later released a couple hours later on a $10,000 bail. The car he was driving was also im- pounded. Young is sched- uled to appear in court on September 19. This is not the first time Young has been stopped by police, in 2016, he was pulled over while driving in Hollywood and cited for playing his music at a disruptive vol- ume. Young, who goes by the nickname Swaggy P, is cur- rently a free agent. He won his first NBA title with the Golden State Warriors in June. He began his basket- ball career in high school and continued after he signed with the University of California in 2004. After completing his jun- ior year, Young entered the NBA draft was selected the 16th overall pick by the Washington Wizards. Zadan passed away at his Hollywood Hills home due to complications from a re- cent shoulder replacement surgery. Bob Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Enter- tainment made the an- nouncement on Tuesday, August 21. “Craig’s distinguished ca- reer as a passionate and con- summate producer is eclipsed only by his gen- uine love for the thousands of actors, directors, writers, musicians, designers, and technicians he worked with over the years,” said Green- blatt in a statement. “On behalf of his life partner, Elwood Hopkins, and his producing partner, Neil Meron, we are stunned that the man behind so many incredible film, theatre, and television productions — several of them joyous mu- sicals — was taken away so suddenly. Craig’s distin- guished career as a passion- ate and consummate pro- ducer is eclipsed only by his genuine love for the thou- sands of actors, directors, writers, musicians, design- ers, and technicians he worked with over the years. His absence will be felt in our hearts and throughout our business.” Zadan was born in Miami on April 15, 1949. He at- tended Hofstra University and moved to New York to pursue his career in enter- tainment in the 1970s. In 1984, Zadan produced “Foot- loose,” starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer.
