Color War is fun! What isyour favorite part? Is itsinging, watching plays, playing sports, or running races? I

enjoy all of it! In parcular, I gain a

tremendous amount of sasfaconfrom the divrei Torah said at

    lunchme. These divrei Torah are

wrien to teach the themes of

color war. This years themes were

    Yachid (Red Team) and Rabbim

    (Blue Team). Yachid means indi-

    vidual and represents the im-

    portance of developing ones

    unique strengths. Rabbim means

    multude and represents the im-

portance of being part of the larger

    group. Maintenance of a healthy

    balance between these two con-

cepts is essenal. Too much Yichi-

dus is the inability to conform to

societal norms and to be a team

player. Rabbim to an extreme is

geng lost in the crowd, losing

    ones sense of individuality. Our

goal is to develop our unique tal-

It's hot! Very hot! But the

    Camp Achdus hallways are

    packed with A/C. Every

    where you look you ind

    more conditioned air! A

modern day miracle. Thehappy, smiley faces of Camp

    Achdus arrive. But, some-

thing is wrong. What can it

    be? Why is Yehuda 10&baum

at the front of the room in-

    stead of Rabbi Akiva? Where

    is Rabbi Akiva? Is Yehuda

    10&baum the new head coun-

    selor? Oy ah shande! Once

    again Mr. Sommers graces

    Camp Achdus with his in-

    credible sports prowess. His

    encyclopedic knowledge of

the history of Kickball is ab-

    solutely breathtaking! Other

    standard activities at Camp

    Achdus include: Go Carting,

    Game Rooming, Art & Crafts,

and so on and so forth.

    There's really never a dull

    moment! Leagues are played

    once again in a competitive

    yet civil manner. The po-

lice only had to be called

    twice! Just Kidding. And

    what are those interesting

    looking scooters brought

    to camp by everyone's fa-

    vorite toy maker Mr.

    Pechter? They are called

EZ Rollers (not to be con-

fused with EZ Pass or Easy

    Shmeezy), They are con-

trolled by your feet and they

are a sooooo much fun (Not

    to be confused with Soooo

    You tell them)! Bunks Aleph

and Ches also have a special

    activity! It's called BA-

    LOONARAMA and the point

is to keep the balloons up inthe air. How hard can it be

already? I mean I have two

hands, two feet and a belly

    button. Give me ive please.

Well maybe it's not as easy

    shmeezy (not to be confused

with EZ Rollers) as it looks!

Well the day is over and oh

do I need a rest. EZ Pillow

    Please!

    It's another day at Camp

    Achdus and once again the

Sun is shining, the birds are

    chirping and the Baseballs

are lying. Who are all these

new faces in camp? Oh it's

The me was 2:30PM. The date wasJuly 8, 2013. Themission was: No Baloons on the

    oor. The two teams consisng

of Aleph Kuun and Ches Gadol

    versus Aleph Gadol and Ches

Kuun went face o as the bal-

    loons started ying. Starng

with one balloon on each team,

    the balloons started increasing.

Before the boys knew it there

was a swarm of balloons ying

through the air with one goal in

mind to fall on the oor.

    Working together, the boys

    managed to keep them ying

high. They ended o with a counselors

    versus campers Baloonarama challenge.

To the counselors chagrin, the campers

valiantly took the lead, defeang the

counselors and bringing cheer and de-

    light to all.

    YEHUDA TENENBAUM Balloon-A-Rama!!!

Learning is exciting! Wow! Doyou feel the ruach (spirit) inthe air? The Achdus auditori-um is a magniicent Beis Medrash for an

hour every day, basking its walls in therefreshing waves of Torah.

This week, in a spirit appropriate for the

Nine Days, Bunks Vuv and Sufand their

    chavrusas

    learned the

    passages of the

    Gemara in Git-

    tin that talk

    about the

    Churban

    (Destruction).

Then, in the spirit of a Nine Days color

war, they were tested on the stories they

learned in a Grand Bechina-- one of

    color wars most lucrative face-offs.

Bunk Daled also changed their learning

plan to accommodate color war. The topic

    was Yediyos Klaliyos: general

knowledge questions such as Who wrote

Mishlei?, On which date does Purim fall

out?, and What is the bracha on seeing a

    rainbow?

Mazel Tov to Bunk Daled Gadol on in-

ishing the irst two perakim of Mishnayos

Avoda Zara! (Just in time for color war!)

    These mish-

    nayos contain

    many dificult

    concepts, and

    we are very

    proud of our

campers andtheir rebbi, Meir Weiss, on this signiicant

    accomplishment!

    This weeks Weekly Erev Shabbos

Talk(W.E.S.T.) was given by Rabbi Nul-

man, our benevolent in-house rebbi. The

address was, thematically, on the story of

Kamtza and Bar Kamtza. Rabbi Nulman

emphasized the value of Achdus, loving

our fellow Jews, and the dangers ofsinas

    chinam, baseless hatred.

    Bunks Aleph Katan

    and Gadol showed

    their counselors their

    speed and skill in

    kickball and then Catch the

    Counselors. The counselors had

more than they bargained for as

    Aleph Katan chased them

    around the eld unl catching

    every counselor. When we

    played homerun derby in base-

ball, Yonaton Tzvi Miller pow-ered the sole homerun to score

ve points for the Red Team.

    Bunks Ches Katan and Gadol

    also showed their skills and

speed, rst in Catch the Redball

in which Daniel Ichakov was the

rst to nd and return the red

ball closely followed by the rest

of his bunk. Then, in a compe-

    ve game of kickball (campers

    vs. counselors) the campers

    were victorious. Daniel Levy

even caught a line drive o the

foot of a counselor! Kickball was

followed by an excing game of

    Jailbreak. Yishai Yamini stopped

a bee-lining Toby Rosen to help

his team prevent a jailbreak. In

    soccer, Gefen Efra and Yehuda

Galen made terric stops in goal.

    In homerun derby, Yoni Nadav

hit a towering homerun alongwith Yonah Galen and Shua

Bauminger to score 15 points for

Red! In Ches Katan, Dovey Gold-

    man slammed the sole homerun

down the le eld line to score

    the only points for Red.

    Daled saw acon on the

    soccer eld with Meir Ellman

    and Yehuda Coe showing sweet

    footwork and terric ball-

    handling skills as they weaved

    their way around opponents.

Yossi Pechter made the stop of

the day with a dive and stretch

    to catch the ball.

    Again, your boys showed

    sportsmanship and good spiri

    on the eld.

MR. IRA SOMERS This Week on the Field

race was oh so bizarre with

    Oriel Gola, Ahron Nulman,

    Biyomin Zefferen and oth-

ers for the blue and Motty

    Kolodny, Hillel Friedman,

    Dovy Elman and others for

    the red. They were jumping

and hopping to a very differ-ent beat. The EZ Roller Race

    was really cool,Aharon Ben

    David, Matan Alon, Shlomo

    Goldenberg. Backwards and

    forwards and riding all

    around! And of course there

    were the standard wheel bar-

rel and Relay races but oh

    were they fast!

In a lash we are off to the in-

    famous Camp Achdus Brachos

    Bee! Moments are tense as

    Aleph through Sof are tested

    on the proper Brochos to

make when eating some of the

    most random and rare foods

    in the world! Tea, Lollipops,

Lettuce, rice...This is gettingtense! (Disclaimer: No harm-

ful colors were used in the

    making of this Brachos Bee.)

Finally we get to perform our

cheer songs. Red is This, Blue

is That! Oy I can barely keep

track! Both songs are so pro-

fessional how can we pick a

    winner?!

Why are the staff going on

    stage wearing those funny

    costumes? Who is Stanley?!

Was that Kaddish I just heard?

    These are the funnies comedy

skits I have ever seen! Time

    for dismissal but another day

    awaits for Color War 2013!

    Thursday

It's 7/11! Yahoo! No! Not the

store, the date! Which is even

    better because it's the second

day of Color War and red and

blue teams are just as excited

as ever! The Torah Hakedoshais Learned Behasmadah fol-

    lowed by some truly competi-

    tive games. The younger divi-

    sion does relay races with

Rabbi G. and the older division

    plays Capture De Flag with

    Rabbi Akiva! The competition

    is tense! The sprawling Kol

Ami ields are used as Red and

    blue boundaries. Jails are set

With Bunks AleGadol and CKaan's pizzprojects, who needs to go to

the pizza store? Did you see

    of the creave toppings that

were put on their pizza colla

    es? They looked good enoug

    to eat! (Though, unfortunate

    they may have tasted more

the cardboard box that a piz

comes in and not as much lik

    the pizza itself)Did you kn

that one sheet of paper can

    made into an eight-page

book? With just the right fo

    and cuts, Bunks Ches Kaan

Ches Gadol did just that! Theven made a cover for their

    books and ornamented it wi

    the Camp Achdus logo. Wou

you like to learn how to do it

too? Just ask your boys and

    they will show you!
