In the midst of today’s fast paced modern world, I continue to be struck by the positive difference YMCA of the Rockies makes in so many lives.

For over 100 years the YMCA of the Rockies has welcomed countless families, conferences, groups and individuals along with staff and volunteers to our grounds. Whether they choose to get out in our natural mountain setting, spend quality time reconnecting with family and friends, participate in our many programs and activities or learn new skills, we provide a nurturing, wholesome environment that enables our guests to have deeply meaningful experiences.

Our impact is widespread and felt on three levels, national, global and local. As you read the comments on the following pages, I know you will see the difference we are making in people’s lives and realize how important you are to our Mission.

As I complete my first full year serving at the helm of the Y, I remain fully committed to delivering meaningful experiences to the future generations who visit our centers. With the continued help of our generous donors and dedicated staff and volunteers, we will continue to make a positive difference in many more lives.

With your help, we can offer this peaceful setting with wholesome activities for every age. In doing that, it allows families to make the most of their time spent here, away from the distractions of modern life.

We enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing time here during our family retreat. Both of us grew up spending time at the YMCA with our families and this was the first time we got to introduce our daughter to all the great activities here. What a special thing to continue traditions and make memories with a new generation.

STAFFFOR KIDS

Each year the Staff for Kids Campaign raises support directly from staff members to provide scholarships for youth to attend day camp, preschool, and Camp Chief Ouray.

“

Both the YMCA day camp and Camp Chief Ouray are making a difference nationally by

TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN through the teaching of leadership skills, and by building confidence and lasting friendships. Your support helps youth who would not otherwise be able to afford camp magic

by providing much needed camp scholarships.

My boys have been attending day camp at the Y for 5+ years. It’s part of the

summer that they always look forward to. Camp has helped them become

more independent. They get to make new camp friends, and they get to

experience REAL camp. Being outside, getting dirty, and singing songs... a

really fantastic childhood experience.

The YMCA of the Rockies is for youth development by fostering tomorrow’s leaders at Camp Chief Ouray. Experiences at camp last a lifetime. Every year

we receive increasing requests for financial assistance for Camp Chief Ouray. Donations to camp ensure that no child is turned away.

The YMCA of the Rockies PROVIDES A PLACE OF RESPITE and connection

for families in need. Our summer campaigns have

assisted military, faith leaders, single parents, and

childhood cancer survivors by giving them time

here to heal, recharge and spend much needed

time together.

The YMCA of the Rockies has become a habit! My husband and I value the times that we

are able to escape from the everyday cares of our hectic lifestyles. Taking a step back

and savoring the opportunity to enjoy God’s nature and the beauty of the YMCA of the

Rockies gives us a chance to remember what is most important - each other! We long for those moments when we can let ourselves

truly relax and reflect on our 35 years together. Our energy and spirits are always lifted and we return to our work energized,

rejuvenated and ready to face the world again.

Located in the extreme northern part of South America, the country of Colombia is home to over 48 million people. The YMCA of Colombia, consisting of 44 municipalities with 109 partners, has been offering programs and services to their communities for over 50 years. In 2013, the Colombia Coalition of YMCA’s was launched. This is a network for YMCA’s in Colombia and the United States to work together to implement an integrated strategy that strengthens the organizational capacity of YMCA’s in both countries. The areas of focus for this coalition are governance development, philanthropy development and youth exchange programs.

As part of this coalition, the YMCA of the Rockies, along with the YMCA of the USA and 9 other YMCA’s across the country, have been working with the Colombia YMCA in support of their cultural exchanges programs. Through our cultural exchange, the YMCA of the Rockies has hired over 40 Colombian students in the past 3 years who have worked at both the Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch in areas of housekeeping, food service and resident camp. In continuous support of our coalition partnership, the YMCA of the Rockies has committed to hire 21 more Colombian students in 2017.

During their time at the YMCA of the Rockies, our Colombian staff have the opportunity to share their country’s culture, ethnic food and traditions with our guests, staff and volunteers through our annual International Fair and International Dinner held each year at both centers.

Our participation in the Colombia Coalition is a unique way for the YMCA of the Rockies to promote cross-cultural understanding between future leaders of the YMCA of the USA diversity movement and the YMCA of the Rockies Outreach and Inclusion Initiative.

In 2016, our 202 Days Summer Campaign sought to give 101 Faith leaders two days away to reconnect and recharge with their families. Because faith leaders often place the needs of others ahead of their own, usually at the price of their own well-being, we wanted to give back to these caring individuals. Scheduling and financial constraints make it difficult for these essential community members to find time for reflection, or time to reconnect with loved ones. We successfully hosted faith leaders from all over the country, gave them time together with loved ones, and gave back to those who give us so much.

LESS TRAVELEDTHE ROAD

On December 13, 2016 the YMCA of the Rockies lost a family member, James (Jim) R. Bellatti. Jim was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on July 7, 1927. Although Jim grew up in a town without a YMCA he became familiar with the movement at a young age when his family would visit the YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center for summer vacation.

Jim lived a life of service. He began serving on the YMCA of the Rockies Board of Directors in 1968 and continued to serve as Director Emeritus along with serving and supporting the YMCA movement throughout his life. Jim helped to bring a YMCA to his hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1957 and became president of that YMCA in 1958. Jim was then elected president of the YMCA of the USA in 1977 and served as president until 1985 when he became the president of the World Alliance of YMCA’s, a position he held until 1988.

Jim has left a lasting impact on the YMCA of the Rockies throughout his 48 years of service. Jim played a pivotal role in bringing the World Alliance of YMCA’s to the Estes Park Center in 1981. He also helped to identify the property that has now become Snow Mountain Ranch. Every year we honor Jim’s dedication to service with the Bellatti Award. This award is given to a volunteer who goes above and beyond in their service to the YMCA of the Rockies.

Jim will be missed deeply by his YMCA family but his memory and heart for service will continue to live on at the YMCA of the Rockies for years to come.
