Meet the Three Women that Make Camp Happen!

They have the RIGHT STUFF... for a Summer of Fun!Ashley Back (Camp Director), Stephanie Wilson (Assistant Director) and Kylee Konieczka (Assistant Director).Together, the three of them bring 21 years of teaching experience and have a wide range of expertise.Their professional certifications include preschool through high school, as well as special education and ESL.

n Car TownVroom, VROOM, VROOOOOOM!!!! All campers will get their own personal battery powered 4-wheeler to ride and use throughout the week while they learn the ‘rules of the road’. Prior to getting the keys for some all out fun, campers will have to earn their driver’s license by taking a written and practical driving test. Not to worry moms and dads, these cars don’t go very fast, and the written test is designed for all to pass.

Our overall message to the kids will be to show them the challenges and obstacles we parents go through to keep our cars on the road – buying or leasing, repairs, maintenance, insurance, and the laws. Throughout the week, campers will

learn how to handle themselves while parking, negotiating four-ways stops, merging into traffic, and obeying several types of traffic signs.

n Counselor-In-Training (CIT’s) Ages 14 & 15

Get your child some real world experience this summer while keeping them active and engaged. Being an Oakland Yard Counselor-In-Training (CIT) will help prepare them for the work world in front of them. The commitment is only three weeks out of the summer and all CITs get to set the weeks they want to get involved.

CITs will report directly to the Oakland Yard camp director who will oversee this program. CITs will assist the senior counselor throughout their week of service with all of the activities the campers will experience while at Oakland Yard.

Who Do you know that is:

• 14-15 years old, a Good Student, Motivated, Friendly, Great with Kids, Active and Responsible?

• Maybe a teen that’s too old to be a camper, or a neighbor, babysitter, niece or nephew?

• They might make a great CIT (Counselor In Training)!

• All CITs applicants must interview like all potential employees.

• CITs may request a certification of community service for their records.

• All CITs will be provided staff apparel for free.

• All CITs accepted into the program are required to attend our All-Day Staff Training Day on Saturday May 16. Applicants should save the date!

n Too Old for Day Camp? Too Young to Get a Job?As our campers climb through the age ranks of camp at OYA we are consistently looking at our programs from a parent’s perspective when it comes the entertainment and education of these kids. When they get to 11 and 12 years of age we understand the need to challenge them and start to provide them with some earned freedom and independence. As children enter

these age groups and parents want them in the safe confines of Oakland Yard throughout the summer, we’ve designed two different programs. Some kids may choose to start with one, and move to the other later, or they may prefer to just stick with one of the options. Take a look and see what makes the most sense for your child.

n Aspiring LeadersThis is a structured program designed for the campers who are interested in stepping into leadership roles in the future. This program will be facilitated by a member of our leadership staff who will work with them throughout the week on skill building and leadership development which will benefit from them not only at camp, but also at school and in life.

This introductory leadership program will give kids daily responsibilities at camp and begin to cultivate leadership skills such as active listening, public speaking, positive role modeling and peer guidance.

Through group discussions and role-play, our Aspiring Leaders will consider how a leader behaves, what types of things a leader might say and do, and then take what they have learned out among their peers.

• Open to campers ages 11-14

• Max 10 campers per session

• Times: 9:00am to 5:00pm

• Lunch is included every day

• Cost: Members: $125 Non-Members: $150

n Camp-XWhat do you do when you’re too old for traditional day camps, but too young to become a CIT or, GASP, get a job!? You come to Camp-X!

Camp-X inside our dome includes old school video games, X-Box 360, age appropriate books and magazines, movies, an electric guitar with an amp, and a complete drum set for jamming! Kids will have oversight throughout the day and week, along with the ability to move throughout the facility and participate in a variety of sports, games and activities.

Each Camp X-er will get a cool stadium cup to keep. Throughout the week they can fill up their cups with a soft drink at the kitchen counter and then go back to home base to relax anytime.

Camp X-ers will spend a portion of each day engaged in group activities designed to break down insecurities, build confidence, and open them up to new people and experiences.

Monday through Thursday Camp-Xer’s will walk to a local establishment for lunch with the Camp-X staff. On Friday, we will bring in Jet’s Pizza.

• Open to campers ages 12 and 13.

• Max 15 campers per session.

• Times: 9:00am to 5:00pm.

• See description for lunch details.

• All meals are included in the registration fee.

• Cost: Members: $150 Non-Members: $175
