Smyrna Education Foundation delivered a grant check
for $720 to Principal Tanner and Ms. Dubick. The school

Who’s Who at CMS:
Jesenia and Jada Carsell
During the winter break, two of our Campbell Spartans,
Jesenia and Jada Carswell were selected by
Representative Michael Smith and had the opportunity to
go to the Georgia House of Representatives to serve as
a House Page. While at the Capitol, they assisted
legislators, constituents, staff and other officials. This was
a great opportunity and honor for Jesenia and Jada.

Future Fest: An Interactive
Festival of Future Careers
To celebrate National Career Technical Education month, the CTAE department of Cobb County School District, created
Future Fest. This event focused on strengthening partnerships with local businesses and STEM industry professionals by pro-
viding students with an interactive and impactful ex-perience designed to empower students with knowledge re-lated to the various careers available in STEM and Culinary
Arts. The event took place on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Cobb Civic Center in Marietta, GA.
Ms. Hind’s
students made a
Valentine’s card
using the
Spanish words
related to friend-
ship, love, family
and friends in
the month of
February. They
also wrote an
acronym in
Spanish
dedicated to the
person to who
they gave the
card. Finally, the
chose a symbol
or picture to
trace and used
the Spanish
words to create
the picture as
shown.

The CMS Chapter of the NJHS encourages its members to contribute to the learning environment of CMS through leadership and
guidance. The members participate in events such as community cleanup, fundraising, and other volunteer
events. Recently, on February 16th, the Campbell Middle

8th Grade MYP IB
Service Project Work Day The Grade 8 Community Project is a major activity for students to complete in year three
(8th grade) of the MYP program at Campbell Middle School. Since Campbell has been author-
ized to offer the program in three years and not partner with a high school, the IBO now re-
quires a community project for 8th graders.
The community project focuses on community and service and gives students an opportunity
to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service
learning. As a consolidation of learning, the community project engages in a sustained, in-depth
inquiry leading to service as action in the community. The community project is completed
individually or in groups. The choice of the topic for the project is made in consultation with a
teacher who has the responsibility for supervising the development of the project according to
the Assessment Criteria which is based on International Baccalaureate Organization guidelines.
The aims of MYP projects are to encourage and enable students to:
* participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context
* generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth
investigation
* demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an
extended period of time
* communicate effectively in a variety of situations
* demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
* appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments
Campbell Middle School 8th Graders are taking the steps necessary to make our world a bet-
ter place with their projects, as they identify with a topic they are passionate about. Great
things are happening at Campbell Middle School!
Day in the Life:
CMS Students
8th Grade Science: Guest Speaker
Mr. John Dixon, a certified Health Physicist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) in Atlanta visited Mrs. Dubick's class to conduct radiation lessons with the
students. Over three days, the students were able learn about radiation, perform experiments
and collect data on radioactive materials, test out various instruments to detect radiation, and find
out about careers in the field of radiation.
VA Comp– Locker Instillation Project
8th grade Advanced Art students, Bella Bowling,
Darina Paliakov and Misan Oritsejitemisan, stand in front of
their beautiful Locker Installation projects. These students
created an installation showcasing the culture of Bulgaria.
They used both two-dimensional and three-dimensional ele-
ments to enhance their work. Students from the V.A. Comp.
class represented several countries in the Locker Installation
project, including Mexico, France, El Salvador, Morocco and
The United Arab Emirates.
