It is a matter of great pleasure for me, to introduce to you, the future employers, the

batch of students who shall be completing their Management Education in 2014. This

batch is very unique in the sense, that it's the first group of students selected through

CAT with the cut off at 98.85 percentile. This was a step we took to ensure the best of

talent get an opportunity to pursue their management education from a globally

reputed Institute like DMS, IIT Delhi. Since its inception almost 3 decades ago,

Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi has emerged as a pioneer among the

various management institutions in the country. Department brings the unique

processes that IIT Delhi as a world class institution follows which ensures quality at

every step; be it the students intake; the kind of research we do; the inputs imparted in

the classroom; or the interactions we have with the industry.

Management is in putting to action whatever you are learning, thus our endeavor is to

synergize student interactions with the teachings imparted in the classroom

environment to develop holistic managers. We try to bring in research, practice and

theory together and it is this amalgamation, which gives us a cutting edge.

The work of managers and organizational leaders is becoming increasing complex.

Today's business environment, characterized by far reaching and continuing

developments in science and technology; increasing integration of the world's

economies; rapid introduction of new products and forced obsolescence of existing

ones; and major social changes all over the world is extremely complex. Therefore we

at DMS aim to develop managers who are responsive to these complex industry needs

and responsible to the society.

MBA Programme

MBA (FULL-TIME 2 YEARS) with Focus on

Management Systems

Situated and administered under the aegis of the

Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi, DMS

leverages the institute's status as a University,

thus enabled to offer the Master's degree in

Business Administration as opposed to a post-

graduate diploma in Management. This

differentiating factor provides the students with

a more universally recognized qualification,

affording great benefits in pursuit of better

career and international recognition.

In Accordance to IIT’s tradition to cater Industry

needs for leaders, DMS has provided

opportunity to students to learn their skills in

two focus areas

Being the flagship course of DMS, the

programme provides a wide range of electives to

the students. It equips the future managers with

a combination of various technical skills and

value focused decision making ability. The

programme offers a blend of analytical and

creative problem solving skills along with

placing heavy emphasis on practical experience

for which extensive interaction with the

industry is built into the curriculum.

Under the aegis of Bharti School of Telecom

Technology & Management (BSTTM),

sponsored by the Indian telecom leader—Bharti

group, is designed to impart skills needed to

become effective managers and leaders

specifically in the Telecom sector. The emphasis

on Telecommunications Systems Management

prepares students for technical management

positions in the telecommunications field.

MBA (FULL-TIME 2 YEARS) with Focus on

Telecommunication Systems Management

MBA (PART-TIME 3 YEARS) FOR WORKING

EXECUTIVES with Focus on Technology

Management

PH.D. PROGRAMME

For the Indian industry to gain global

competitiveness, effective management of

technology is crucial. This would mean using

technology as a strategic variable to gain

competitive advantage and would require an

organization to critically understand processes

of technology planning and strategy,

management of technology transfer and

absorption, management of innovation and

R&D, intellectual property rights, project

management, entrepreneurship, and technology

financing and marketing. The part-time MBA

programme with focus on "Technology

Management" is aimed at fulfilling these

requirements so as to enable the managers to

effectively contribute in evolving core

competencies in Indian industry.

The award of Ph.D. degree is, among other

things, in recognition of high scholastic

achievements, and original contribution to

knowledge. Creative and productive enquiry is

one of the basic concepts underlying research

work. In order to overcome any deficiency in the

breadth of fundamental training or proper

foundation or advanced work, special

foundation or pre-doctoral courses are given by

the department.

Campus Engagement Programme

At DMS we intend to foster functional, mutually

beneficial and long-term relationships within

our corporate and industrial networks. By

means of a comprehensive approach aptly titled

the Campus Engagement Program, we attempt to

involve our potential employers and recruiters

throughout the year, in a variety of avenues such

as:

Live projects

Winter Internship

Summer Internship

Final Placements

Guest Lectures

Workshop and competitions

Sponsorships

The concept and exercise of Live Projects is

quite unique to IIT Delhi. A ‘Live Project’ is

essentially like an internship, where the student

participates in an Industrial project/function,

contributing to an Organization in a prescribed

manner as a provisional member of, and gaining

from the experience thereby. The academic

system at DMS, IIT Delhi offers ample time and

mental space for the pursuit of current and

ongoing projects in research and in the Industry,

providing a very distinctive and greatly benefi-

cial platform to its students for gaining addi-

tional industrial experience.

Industrial internships are an integral part of an

MBA program, forming the backbone for place-

ments and careers. The importance of such

Internship programs cannot be emphasized

enough. It is in keeping with this design that

DMS offers its students an additional avenue for

Live Projects/Term Paper/Case Studies

Winter Internships

pursuing internships during the winters,

supplementing the more traditional summer

internship placements. Leveraging the six-week

winter vacation prescribed by IIT Delhi’s

academic calendar, students at DMS are pro-

vided a unique opportunity to participate in an

additional internship process for one-and-a-half

month’s duration during December-January. A

wide variety of excellent profiles are offered by

our Recruiters for winter internships presenting

hands-on experience, more industry exposure

and handsome stipend.

A typical MBA program necessitates industry

exposure and hands-on experience, tradition-

ally offered to students in the form of a two

month’s summer internship-placement during

the summer break between academic years.

DMS leverages the structuring of IIT Delhi’s

academic calendar, offering to its students a

longer summer break, making provisions for a

unique summer internship program that can be

extended to three months. A beneficial

differentiator for DMS, an additional month in

summer internships presents the potential for

greater industry exposure and a longer period

for corporate interaction.
