NEWSLETTER June 2013 Dear all, Another exciting few weeks have flown by and we are really coming down to the pointy end’ of the academic year for our students. If you require specific assistance for students, please email the teacher concerned or our counselor Ms Emma Mercado to request this or to arrange a time to meet. Often our teachers can provide timely assistance by email. As the semester is coming to its end, we wish you all happy vacations, and if you travel, stay safe! See you all next year! 32 different countries were showcased in a colorful and informative display created by our student groups on Thursday May 16. The school’s cafeteria and exam hall were filled with displays, food and students in colorful costumes. Parents who attended were treated to informative discussions with students and tastes of food from many countries. During the course of the last several weeks students had learned about, and made displays for the country they were studying. Not only did they learn things about countries some of them had never heard of, they also learned to collaborate in groups with students from other grade levels. Our International Day was really successful, we would like to thank all staff and students for their hard work on this. Also, a big thank you to parents who supported us all through providing materials, and/or attending the event we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. A stellar performance from Ms Wilmoth’s dance group was a huge highlight, huge congratulations on such an entertaining show. To perform in front of our friends, parents and classmates was just amazing. The amount of clapping and cheering we got at the end was just totally incredible. When people came over and asked about geography, I told them the country was thin but long just like me. I told them that it was so cold, penguins were found in the south but in the north it is very hot. The most tremendous thing was the Maori, they were funny and very historical. It was very enjoyable. We gave much information and food to taste. It was new and delicious. The day when everybody became one nation International Day. Most importantly, we all learned teamwork, how to work together to benefit everyone. I’ve never worked with groups other than my friends or classmates so the International Day was a new experience to face working with other students from other grades.

To perform in front of our friends, parents and

classmates was just amazing. The amount of

clapping and cheering we got at the end was just

    totally incredible.

When people came over and asked about geography, I told them the country was thin but long just like me. I told them that it was so cold, penguins were found in the south but in the north it is very hot. The

most tremendous thing was the Maori, they were funny and very

    historical.

It was very enjoyable. We gave much information and food to taste. It was

    new and delicious.

The day when everybody became one nation – International

    Day.

Most importantly, we all learned teamwork, how

to work together to benefit everyone.

I’ve never worked with groups other than my

friends or classmates so the International Day

was a new experience to face working with other

    students from other grades.

  • A group of students sat an exam in German language at the Goethe Institute in Abu Dhabi. They

all passed level A1 successfully. As a result, they will travel to Germany in the summer holidays as they were awarded a scholarship to attend a three-week language course. In September, the German Department at the school, represented by Mrs. Sejhana Hadzibulic, will organize a German Week, where this country will be presented.

    DEAR PARENTS!

We have ceased issuing resources for this academic year in the library, in order to be able to complete a thorough resource inventory. Although this means students can no longer bring home hard copies for reading, they have access to a great and growing collection of e-books via our online library catalog with the Tumblebooks connection. Please support the library by encouraging your child to return all outstanding resources as soon as possible. Thank you.

    ARABIC WEEK CELEBRATION

From 19 – 23 May, our school celebrated Arabic Week. Students learnt English words of Arabic origin, enjoyed an Arabic Word Raffle Draw during assembly, and participated in games and competitions such as proverb guessing and famous Arab scholars guessing. During lunch time a play was performed and students could have their names written in Arabic on key chains. It was fun!

The Music department held its first annual concert; the participants were from Grade 6-11. There were solo performances, school band, and the amazing school choir. The program included a range of different musical genres, from classical compositions to modern music, and Arabic songs. Parents enjoyed the concert and they were as proud of their children as the rest of us were!

    5th to 6th Grade Transition Day- June 3, 2013

On Monday, June 3rd in the afternoon, the 5th graders visited the Middle School to acquaint themselves for 6th grade. They

participated in some of the activities, such as, school tours and Question Answer session given by the Principal and several 6th

graders. The 5th graders enjoyed the afternoon visit and left with some of their worries eased. It was a fun event for all and we are

looking forward to welcoming our upcoming 6th graders.
