On the cover ...WIRELESS AC CIRCUIT IDENTIFIERExtech’s RT30 Wireless AC Circuit Identifier permits a single user to remotely identify circuit breakers, wiring, switched lines, AC outlets and light fixtures without cutting into any wires and without a helper. This tool uses a pager-sized, non-contact voltage detector transmitter that clamps onto wiring mid-run and transmits a “voltage present” signal to a pocket-sized receiver carried by the user, up to 100m away. As the user opens splices or circuit breakers at a remote location, the receiver’s visual and optional audible alarms remain on until voltage is interrupted at the wire, effectively identifying the correct circuit breaker or splice.Extech Instruments

COMPACT SPRAY SYSTEMThe new AutoJet®Model 1550 Modular Spray System ensures accurate, precise place-ment of the liquid being sprayed to minimize waste. The system provides automatic on/off control of electrically- and pneumatically-actuated spray nozzles and offers greater precision than manual operation or devices such as solenoid valves. Proper flow and drop size elim-inates quality control problems due to uneven application and improved worker safety by minimizing misting and overspray. The system is self-contained and compact. Operators can be deployed to other tasks once the delay time, spray time, repeat time and duty cycle have been set. The system is ideal for use in lubricating, coating and marking applications and can be used in small- or full-scale operations.

On the cover ...CABINET COOLER SYSTEMEXAIR’s new digital ETC (Electronic Temperature Control) Cabinet Cooler™ System keeps electrical enclosures cool while minimizing compressed air use. The ETC® can accurately maintain a constant temperature that is slightly under the maximum rating of the elec-tronics, permitting just enough cooling for the electronics without going so cold as to waste compressed air. The ETC incorpor-ates solid state circuitry that detects the slightest change in temperature. A digital readout LED displays the temperature of the electrical enclosure, then displays the user setting when the “push to set” button is pressed. When the setting is exceeded, the Cabinet Cooler circulates 20°F air through the electrical enclosure to prevent a high temperature malfunction. Applications include cooling programmable controllers, CNC panels, computer cabinets, and variable speed drives.EXAIR Corporation

MAGNETIC REED SWITCHStandex Electronics introduces the small-est magnetic reed switch in the world — measuring just 3.7mm in length. In addi-tion to being able to fit in very small spaces, the GR150 also maintains a very narrow sensitivity range. With a magnetic sensitivity of 2-4 Ampere Turns (AT), typical operating time of 0.2 milliseconds and a release time of 0.1 milliseconds, this ultra miniature reed switch is ideal for very demanding applications such as within hearing aids, in pill cams, flip or side phones, laptop computers or more. Designed for applications where the available magnetic field is extremely low and/or the space limitations are a major design factor, the GR150 functions as a non-contact position sensor. PLASTIC ADHESIVEMaster Bond MB514 polypropylene ad-hesive etches away at the bonding chal-lenges presented by non-polar and low energy polyolefin surfaces. Specially for-mulated, the MB514 polyolefin based hot melt is particularly suited for use on un-treated surfaces of polyethylene, poly-propylene and combinations of these sub-strates. The only required processing steps are melting these compositions and then applying the molten hot melt to the surfaces to be bonded. MB514 adhesive is VOC free as it is comprised of 100% sol-ids and contains no solvents. Bond strengths develop rapidly with no need for clamps or post cure during assembly. Because of its rapid speed of cure, the ad-hesive is suitable for high-speed assembly operations as the bonds are formed im-mediately upon cooling.Master Bond Inc.

A uniquely formulated epoxy adhesive has come to the rescue in a diffi cult cryogenic wind tunnel model bond-

ing application. The state-of-the-art wind tunnel poses a diffi cult challenge to en gi neering thermoplastics, not only in the terms of the low temperature and vacuum conditions, but in terms of thermal, thermal cycling and mechanical shear stresses. Cooled to 113°K at a rate of 40°K per hour and then reheated over a four hour cycle, the model’s stainless aluminum, neodyne magnet and fi ber reinforced plastic substrates are all deforming at their individual CTEs, thus indicating further stress on the parts and adhesive joints. Certainly any metal adhesive would have a diffi cult time meeting any one of these challenging performance requirements, all the more so all of them at once.

A VERSATILEAEROSPACE EPOXYconquers cryogenic wind tunnel

Master Bond’s EP21TCHT-1 is suitable for high vacuum testing applications.

As a NASA qualifi ed low outgassing epoxy, multifunctional Master Bond EP21TCHT-1 was found to be suitable for the high vacuum testing application. Being a toughened, two-part epoxy and the cryogenic adhesive was a good match for the assembly of the diffi cult to bond substrates used in the wind tunnel model. Developing a high bond strength of 2200 psi in shear at ambient temperatures, it retains signifi cant adhesive strength at both high temperatures, up to 400°F and low temperature, cryogenic environments, down to 4K. The bonds produced are resistant to thermal cycling and many chemicals. As an added bonus, the hardened adhesive exhibits high thermal conductivity useful in the model’s overall temperature cycling performance.Master Bond Inc.

job — it wasn’t providing the enhanced lubrication required.

Jorge Goncalves, ASGO’s Technical Director, contacted his lubricants distribu-tor and explained the issues he was having. He needed to fi nd an enhanced gear oil — one that was H1 registered by NSF, with extended drain and long-term protection capabilities. Goncalves got all that and more when he found Petro-Canada’s PURITY FG EP Gear Fluid 460.

Since Goncalves began factory fi lling and servicing his mixers’ speed-reducing gears with PURITY FG EP Gear Fluid 460, his customers have benefi ted from several performance enhancements. For instance, drain intervals have been drastic-ally extended. In the past, when servicing his customers’ mixers, he used to have to drain the gear fl uid annually. But since the switch to PURITY FG EP Gear Fluid

460, he’s more than doubled the drain intervals. Gear inspection also showed substantially reduced gear and bearing wear and the absence of rust and corro-sion. The 460 is H1 registered, extends drains, protects against shock loading and rust corrosion.

Petro-Canada’s PURITY FG EP Gear Fluids are advanced food grade lubricants formulated to deliver enhanced, longer-lasting protection. They are formulated to protect against damage due to shock loading, long-term wear, and a build-up of sludge, varnish, rust and corrosion. The fl uids meet the food industry standards and provide lubrication in all enclosed gears, such as worm, helical, bevel and spur.Petro-Canada

Each piece is constructed with food grade stainless steel, safety devices and tools. The company’s mixers are de-signed specifi cally for mixing food pastes and dough. The speed-reducing gears are the heart of the machine. Lubricating these gears properly with a top-quality gear fl uid is vital. Without doing so, oxidative breakdown, shortened drain intervals, seizures, scuffi ng and wear are just a few of the problems you could be faced with. MIRROR HYGROMETERThe S8000 Integrale chilled mirror hy-grometer is able to handle sample gas at pressures of up to 250 psig. This results in a reduced response which can save users time and money in dry applications — such as compressed air and bottled gases — where low dew points are reached. Pressuring the sample speeds up the re-sponse time because the gas will have a higher dew point than the same sample at atmospheric pressure. This is because the water molecules are squeezed closer together under pressure making the sam-ple ‘wetter’ than it would be at atmos-pheric pressure. Mitchell Instruments Inc.

Each compres-sor uses a heavy-duty, two-stage cast-iron pump and powder-coated, ASME certi-fied tank. A large flywheel provides for extra cooling and easier startup, while special unloading valves further assist the motor in starting. A directional air shroud helps reduce pump temperatures, and a thermal-overload protection feature pre-vents the motor from drawing too much current and overheating.Jenny Products, Inc.
