Plants that were E.U qualified, would now have to have pigs raised under the Ractopamine free CQA protocol.
The Ractopamine protocol evaluates and sets standards for: The processing plant Farm level Feed mills: on farm and commercial
Electronic CQA ManagementBenefits to Producers
Reduced audit and/or validation costs when the validator or auditor does the documentary revue using electronic files
Costs related to using paper documents reduced
Electronic records on the tablet make the Validators visit easier because the application is very visual and everything is in one place.
The use of an electronic tablet simplifies the management of validation report by CQA and ACA program
Electronic CQA Management
Benefits for Validators
During validation, time required for data input and preparing the report is reduced
Consultation of previous reports is facilitated
Postal costs reduced –electronic transmission of reports to provincial agencies and to producers
Documentary audit time reduced if the tablet is used to register farm data and information
Travelling costs related to collecting and bringing back documentation from a validated farm are reduced
Electronic CQA ManagementBenefits for Canadian Pork Council and Manitoba Pork Council
Cost savings related to information input, analyses and management of validation reports
Data input errors reduced
Document transmission costs reduced
Blank validation reports sent by mail to the validators
Completed Validation Form
General Results from Producers
Easy to useRecommended not forcing the applicationTraining will be requiredWould like compatibility to other management software (Swine Book or Pig Champ)Some paper warranted, such as sow cardsAll producer agreed they need to eliminate paper recordsData confidentiality is very important
Conclusion
Producers are very excited about using the tablet. Although, the tablet software should be optimized to integrate on farm sow management software.
WISH LIST
Producers would like to be able to place orders for medications directly to the pharmacy. Producers would like to be able to place feed orders from the application and receive the delivery notes directly on the iPad and automatically registered in the appropriate forms. Producers would like to be able to get a list of animals to be injected or a task management option (such as management software would). Producers say it will be very useful for traceability and they would like the inventory entries to be transferred automatically to Pigtrace. Producers say it will also be very useful for Ractopamine management (forms). Producers would like to have the same tool for their phone.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
Google ANDROID native application Microsoft SURFACE native application Data transfer between farms Inventory entries automatically transferred to Pig-trace Online Feed Order System linked to Mills Veterinarian tool to manage medications for a group of producers Ractopamine Management IPhone and other Phone Native Application Weekly emails for data summary and warnings

Health and Safety
H2S
Without consultation Manitoba Government amended Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations that lowered H2S thresholds.
Pre-2011 thresholds Time weighted average (TWA) 10 ppm, Short
Term Exposure Limit (STEL) 15ppm
NowTime weighted average (TWA) 1 ppm, Short Term
Exposure Limit (STEL) 5ppm
Health and SafetyTested our industries ability to comply with new provincial H2S thresholds
Conducted 3 H2S Studies
May 2nd of 2012February 15th to 21st of 2013March 3rd to 7th of 2014
Tests included areas of production within grow-finish, nursery, farrowing, hallway, pressure washing, emptying pits and pump rooms.
ConclusionOverall, the long and short term testing of airborne concentrations of hydrogen sulphide measured does not suggest any concerns with worker overexposure.
The use of direct reading instruments should continue as a means of helping minimize worker exposure to hydrogen sulphide during periods of potential elevated airborne concentrations (such as pit pulling), but should not be used to measure airborne concentrations for compliance purposes.
