Erynn BallardBirthplace: Oakville, Ontario Birthdate: September 13, 1980 Hometown: Tottenham, Ontario

Erynn Ballard began riding at the age of five with her parents, David and Sandi Ballard, and entered the show ring one year later. Equally talented in hunter, jumper and equitation, Ballard became only the second Canadian

to win the prestigious ASPCA Maclay National Championship at the 1998 National Horse Show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The following year, she captured the individual gold medal at the 1999 North American Young Riders’ Championship riding Leacock.

Ballard made her Nations’ Cup debut at the 2006 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament, helping Canada to achieve victory for the first time in the event’s history, and was named the 2006 Equine Canada “Equestrian of the Year”. Working in partnership with horse agent Ilan Ferder, Ballard recently made a spectacular return to the international spotlight, winning the $100,000 CSI5* Longines Speed Challenge at the 2018 Longines Masters of New York and being named to her first major games team for the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC.

Ballard is the professional trainer and coach for her family’s business, Looking Back Farm. Known for her catch riding abilities, Ballard is often seen piloting a multitude of horses in the hunter and jumper divisions.

Lisa Carlsen emerged on the international scene in 1986 with Kahlua, considered one of the greatest horses in Canadian show jumping history. The pair won several major grand prix events to earn their place at the

1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis where Canada claimed the team gold medal and Carlsen and Kahlua placed sixth individually. The following year, the pair made their Olympic debut at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games before Kahlua was retired from competition in 1990.

Carlsen returned to the international spotlight riding La Boom, her mount for Nations’ Cup events in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2010 and the 2012 Nations’ Cup Promotional League Final in Barcelona, Spain. Now partnered with Parette, Carlsen is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. She is once again a frequent member of Canadian Nations’ Cup teams and served as the traveling alternate for the 2018 World Equestrian Games.

Married to Dayton Gorsline, Carlsen operates Trademark Stables in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The couple has one daughter, Cassandra Gorsline, who is following in her mother’s footsteps as a show jumping competitor.

Show jumping is a shared passion for the Chad family. Introduced to the sport by her parents, Kara Chad quickly progressed from competing in the pony ranks in 2008 to representing Canada internationally three years later

on the Young Riders’ Nations’ Cup tour that competed in Belgium and Austria.

In 2014, Chad led Canada to victory in the CSIO4* Coapexpan, Mexico, riding Alberto II. She has since competed in Nations’ Cup events around the globe, including at such well-known venues as Aachen, Germany; Wellington, Florida; and Rome, Italy, as well as in her hometown of Calgary during the prestigious CSIO5* Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament. Chad was selected as the traveling alternate for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with Bellinda, despite only being 20 years old at the time, and made her major games debut two years later riding Carona at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC.

In 2015, Chad began training with three-time Olympic medalist Eric Lamaze, whose Torrey Pines Stable has bases in Florida and Belgium. She now works for Lamaze full-time, competing several Torrey Pines Stable sales horses in addition to her own mounts. At the 2018 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament, Chad scored her first five-star victory in the International Ring, winning the $35,500 ATCO Founders Classic riding Torrey Pines Stable’s Viva.

Mario Deslauriers began riding at Bromont Equestrian Centre, site of the 1976 Olympic Games equestrian competition, under the tutelage of his father, Roger Deslauriers. In 1984 at the age of 19, Mario became the

first Canadian and the youngest rider to ever win the World Cup Final, a record he still holds today. At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he finished fourth with Aramis following a three-way jump-off for the individual bronze medal.

A two-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion, Mario has represented Canada at every major international event. In 2006, he was a member of the Canadian Team that scored its first victory in the $350,000 BMO Nations’ Cup at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB. With the opportunity to ride for an American owner, Mario began representing the United States in 2009, switching back in time to once again represent Canada at the 2017 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament as a member of its Nations’ Cup team. In 2018, he again represented Canada at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament, the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, NC, and the Longines Nations’ Cup Final in Barcelona, Spain.

Married to American Lisa Tarnopol, Mario and their twins, Jack and Lucy, reside in New York, NY, and Wellington, FL. Mario has the added privilege of training and competing alongside his daughter who, similar to his own career path, is enjoying incredible success at a young age.

Ever since her parents bought her a rocking horse for her second Christmas Tiffany Foster’s life has included horses. She began taking lessons at the age of eight and eventually began training with Brent and Laura Balisky in

Langley, BC. Under their guidance, Foster had the distinction of winning both the Running Fox CET Medal and the Jump Canada Medal at the 2001 Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON.

In 2006, Foster began working for Canadian Olympic Champion Eric Lamaze. She exploded onto the international show jumping scene in 2011, making her Canadian Show Jumping Team debut aboard Southwind VDL in the $350,000 BMO Nations’ Cup at the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament. She has now represented Canada at every major games and has made more than 35 Nations’ Cup appearances for Canada.

Foster helped Canada claim the team gold medal on home soil at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON, riding Tripple X III. At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the pair were members of Canada’s fourth-placed team. Foster now operates her own training business, Little Creek Equestrian.

Susan HornBirthplace: Toronto, Ontario Birthdate: April 13, 1984 Hometown: Bolton, Ontario

Susan Horn first made a name for herself as the 2012 Jump Canada Talent Squad Eastern Division Champion, a means of identifying riders with the potential to represent Canada on the world stage, riding Zahara S. It would

prove to be a sign of good things to come as Horn stepped up to the international divisions and was named to the Canadian Show Jumping Team short list for the first time in 2016.

Her current goal of one day representing Canada in international team competition is on the brink of coming to fruition. Horn posted strong results during the highly-competitive Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, this past winter, setting the stage for future team selection. While Lilly Fee is her most experienced mount, Horn has several promising prospects in her competition string.

Having studied economics and urban geography at the University of Toronto, Horn spent a brief period working for a transportation planning firm. She now enjoys the challenge of working for Kingsfield Farm, her family’s small agricultural and equestrian facility.

Growing up at his family’s Paramount Equestrian Centre Ltd., Jim Ifko got an early start to his riding career. He quickly found success on whichever horses happened to be in the field at the time and eventually took on

training and coaching as his full-time profession. He credits his father’s love of horses and his own passion for the sport of show jumping for getting him to where he is today.

Ifko is currently based at Eventyre Farms, owned by his student, Rachel Cornacchia. The business includes a European-style sport horse breeding program featuring Ifko’s current top mount, Diamant des Forets, as a breeding stallion. Equally successful in the show ring, Diamant des Forets enjoyed an incredibly successful 2018 season under Ifko, scoring several victories across North America. This spring, the pair made their Canadian Show Jumping Team debut in the €200,000 Longines Nations’ Cup held at CSIO5* Coapexpan, Mexico, held one day after Ifko’s 50th birthday.

Ifko, who has two daughters, Sofia and Isabella, enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible.

Eric Lamaze made history by becoming the first equestrian athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal for Canada with his beloved stallion, Hickstead. The incredible accomplishment came just two days after

Canada won the team silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. By the end of the 2008 season, Lamaze was ranked the number one show jumping rider in the world, a feat he would accomplish again in 2010 and 2011.

A three-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion, Lamaze has represented Canada in seven consecutive World Equestrian Games (1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018), claiming individual bronze in 2010 where Hickstead was also named “Best Horse”. Considered one of the greatest horses of all time, Hickstead won every major grand prix title including Calgary (2007 and 2011), Geneva (2008), Aachen (2010), La Baule (2011), and Rome (2011) before his tragic death in November of 2011. Moving forward, Lamaze led Canada to a team gold medal riding Coco Bongo at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Canada finished fourth following a jump-off for the team bronze while Lamaze and Fine Lady 5 claimed the individual bronze medal.

An avid golfer and property developer, Lamaze divides his time between bases in Florida and Belgium.

François Lamontagne knew horses were his passion at an early age and he turned professional as soon as he completed high school. Now a well-recognized competitor and Equestrian Canada-certified coach,

Lamontagne has owned and operated Ferme Lamontagne in Saint Eustache, Quebec, since 2005.

Excelling on the national stage, Lamontagne was the 2011 Jump Canada Talent Squad Champion at Toronto’s famed Royal Horse Show riding Undergroud des Hauts. The same horse would carry him to his Nations’ Cup debut in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2012 before being sold to Lucy Davis, who renamed the horse Baron and went on to win a team silver medal as part of the U.S. team at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Lamontagne now has another superstar under his saddle in the form of Chanel du Calvaire. The pair represented Canada in the Nations’ Cup of Samorin, Slovakia, in the summer of 2017 before Lamontagne captured the Leading Canadian Rider title and Chanel du Calvaire was named the Leading Canadian-owned Horse at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON. In 2018, they were members of Canada’s winning team for the $450,000 Longines Nations’ Cup at CSIO5* Ocala, Florida, before making Nations’ Cup appearances in La Baule, France, and Rome, Italy.

Coming from a horse-loving family, it is no surprise that Vanessa Mannix would follow the same path. Her father, Frederick Mannix, is a Canadian Polo Hall of Famer while her brothers, Frederick Jr. and Julian, are both

highly-rated players. While Vanessa also played polo until the age of 10, she was drawn to the thrill of show jumping. Coached by Canadian Olympian Jonathan Asselin as a teenager, Vanessa began training with Ireland’s Conor Swail in 2007 when she moved to Dublin to study business and politics at Trinity College.

Vanessa won her first FEI-sanctioned competition in 2015 at CSI3* San Giovanni, Italy, with Valerie F.S. In 2016, she made her Nations’ Cup debut in Samorin, Slovakia, and was again named to the Canadian Team for the Nations’ Cup in Gijon, Spain. In 2017, she won the €73,075 CSI4* Grand Prix in Coapexpan, Mexico, before helping Canada earn a second-place finish the following week in the Nations’ Cup riding Grand Cru.

In addition to riding, Vanessa stays fit with cross-training, tennis, and golf. She enjoys reading and travel, which complements her international show jumping career.

Born in Toronto, Rebecca McGoldrick moved to Hong Kong at the age of five. Growing up in an international city known for its vibrant Thoroughbred racing scene, McGoldrick spent her childhood as the oldest of three

children riding former race horses finding their second careers as school horses.

When it was time for college, McGoldrick headed back to North America and attended Brown University in Rhode Island. Having put riding on the backburner during high school, McGoldrick got back in the saddle as part of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) program. During her final year of studies, Irish show jumper Dermott Lennon invited McGoldrick to spend the summer riding with him in Northern Ireland. She still trains with the 2002 World Champion today.

McGoldrick’s top two horses are Fleur IV and Horatio van Erpekom, the latter carrying her to victory in the €62,750 1.50m Winning Round at CSI4* Samorin, Slovakia, in 2017.

Studying towards her Masters degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the international business school, HEC Paris, McGoldrick enjoys reading and travel in her spare time as well as playing sports such as softball and volleyball.

Aptly dubbed ‘Captain Canada’ by his fans, Ian Millar has ridden in more team competitions than any other Canadian rider. At the 2012 London Olympics, Millar set a world record by becoming the first athlete in any

sport, from any nation, to represent their country in 10 Olympic Games. Millar achieved his best Olympic performance to date in London with a top 10 finish individually riding Star Power.

In 10 Pan American Games appearances, Millar has earned ten medals, including two individual and two team gold. In 1988 and 1989, Millar and his legendary partner, Big Ben, became the first horse and rider combination to ever win back-to-back World Cup Finals. In 2014, Millar led Canada to victory in the $300,000 BMO Nations’ Cup before winning the coveted $1,500,000 CP International at the CSIO5* Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ tournament riding Dixson. Remarkably, Millar captured a record tenth Canadian Show Jumping Champion title in 2016, again riding Dixson. In May of 2019, Millar announced his retirement from international team competition and has turned his focus to the training and development of young horses and riders.

The most decorated equestrian in Canadian history, Millar is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, the Jump Canada Hall of Fame, and is a honourary doctorate of the University of Guelph.

As the son of 10-time Canadian Olympian Ian Millar, Jonathon Millar began riding at an early age on the family farm in Perth, Ontario. In 1994, Jonathon made his Nations’ Cup debut at the Washington International

Horse Show.

From 1997 to 2000, Jonathon trained and competed in Europe with Dutch Olympian Emile Hendrix. Upon returning to Canada, he was named as an alternate for the 2000 Sydney Olympic team. Ten years later, he made his major games debut riding Contino 14 as a member of Canada’s fifth-placed team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky. Jonathon has been a regular member of Nations’ Cup teams in recent years, representing his country throughout North America as well as in Europe. In 2018, he jumped double clear riding Daveau to lead Canada to victory in the €250,000 Longines Nations’ Cup at CSIO5* Coapexpan, Mexico.

In December of 2015, Jonathon married Kelly Soleau-Millar, who has represented her home nation of the United States in Nations’ Cup competition. Jonathon works alongside his father and younger sister, Amy, as a member of the training, coaching, and horse sales team at Millar Brooke Farm.

Introduced to horses at the age of six at an Edmonton-area riding camp, Ali Ramsay began her competitive career in the pony hunter divisions, eventually progressing to the 3’6” hunter division. With her first show jumping horse,

Alonso, Ramsay won the prestigious CET Medal National Final in 2012 at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON.

Having demonstrated her talent and passion for the sport, Ramsay began training with Canadian Olympic team silver medalist Jill Henselwood in 2013. Four years later, Ramsay became the professional rider and assistant trainer at Henselwood’s Juniper Farms Ltd.

Ramsay made her Canadian Show Jumping Team debut in the 2016 Nations’ Cup of Samorin, Slovakia, riding Hermelien vd Hooghoeve. Upon their return to Canada, Ramsay scored her first Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) victory in the $35,000 Caledon Cup Phase II at the CSI2* Canadian Show Jumping Tournament in Caledon, ON. In 2017, Ramsay and Hermelien made their second Nations’ Cup appearance, this time in Coapexpan, Mexico. The pair started the 2019 season with a top three finish in the $1 Million AIG Grand Prix at HITS Thermal in California before the mare was sold to Jennifer Gates’ Evergate Stables. Ramsay is now concentrating on the development of Casino, Lutz, and Bonita vh Keizershof Z at the international level.

There was little doubt that Laura-Jane Tidball would excel in the world of show jumping. She is the granddaughter of Jump Canada Hall of Fame Inductees George and Dianne Tidball, founders of Thunderbird Show Park,

and the niece of two-time Canadian Olympian, Laura Tidball-Balisky. Her mother, Jane Tidball, now heads Thunderbird Show Park, a world-class competition facility in Langley, BC.

From her humble beginnings in the lead-line classes at the age of two, Laura-Jane competed in her first grand prix when she was 16 years old. She gained valuable experience at the national grand prix level riding Prim’ de Lairaud, a horse she competes in the hunter derbies in addition to the show jumping ring.

Laura-Jane recently stepped on to the international stage after acquiring Concetto Son from 2012 Olympic Champion Steve Guerdat of Switzerland. The pair has enjoyed numerous top 10 finishes in World Cup qualifying competition and, in 2018, Laura-Jane made her Canadian Show Jumping Team debut riding as a member of the winning team in the €250,000 Longines Nations’ Cup at CSIO5* Coapexpan, Mexico.

Laura-Jane operates Thunderbird Show Stables in Langley, BC, alongside Laura and her uncle, Brent Balisky, who is also a well-known grand prix rider and trainer.

Beth UnderhillBirthplace: Guelph, Ontario Birthdate: September 5, 1962 Hometown: Schomberg, Ontario

As a teenager, Beth Underhill earned top honours from the Royal Conservatory for her singing, but it was her love of horses that won out. First named to the Canadian Equestrian Team in 1990, Underhill has

ridden in over 25 Nations’ Cup competitions and, in 1993, was the first woman to win the Canadian World Cup League, a feat she repeated in 1999. With her long-time partner Monopoly, Underhill earned more than $1 million in the show ring.

A veteran of Olympic, World Championship, and Pan American Games competition, Underhill has claimed the Canadian Show Jumping Championship title on three occasions - in 1994 and 1996 with Monopoly and in 1999 with Altair. Having represented Canada at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome, Italy, Underhill and Altair were team bronze medalists at the 1999 Pan American Games the following year. A dual citizen born in the United States, Brian Walker moved to his mother’s hometown of Montreal, QC, at the age of eight. There he trained with horsemen such as Gladys Adams, Buddy Brown, and Paul Valliere and

won both the CET Medal Final and the Jump Canada Medal Final at the 1999 Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON.

Walker spent his last three junior years working under the tutelage of renowned American equitation trainer, Missy Clark. In 2001 at the age of 17, Walker won the third annual R.W. ‘Ronnie’ Mutch Equitation Championship in Wellington, FL, as well as the $10,000 CK Equitation Championship riding Grappa at the Hampton Classic Horse Show. He would go on to claim the ultimate equitation title, the ASPCA Maclay Medal, at the 2001 National Horse Show, the final time it was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Walker became only the third Canadian to ever win, joining Laura Tidball Balisky and Erynn Ballard in accomplishing the impressive feat.

In 2003, Walker moved to the Netherlands where he spent two years working as a rider and horse scout for Dutch Olympic gold medalist, Jan Tops. Upon his return to the United States, he embarked on a professional career and enjoyed numerous grand prix placings. After relocating back to Europe in 2016, Walker was named to his first Nations’ Cup team and represented Canada at CSIO3* Samorin, Slovakia, in 2017 riding Carlson 93.

Nicole Walker grew up around horses. The granddaughter of well-known Austrian-Canadian businessman and thoroughbred racing giant, Frank Stronach, Walker was exposed to the equine industry at an early age. As

a junior, Walker excelled in the equitation ring. At the 2010 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON, she won the Jump Canada Medal riding SS San Remo and finished second in the Running Fox CET Medal. A year later, the pair returned to The Royal to claim the 2011 Running Fox CET Medal title.

Walker then dominated Under 25 competition by winning several events during the 2017 season before claiming the Under 25 National Championship in front of a home crowd at The Royal riding Excellent B. The Royal has proved to be a lucky venue for Walker as, one year later, she captured the Canadian Show Jumping Championship title with Falco van Spieveld. Based on their incredible success, Walker and Falco made their Nations’ Cup debut at the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, and, two months later, were members of the Canadian Team for the Longines Nations’ Cup held at CSIO5* Coapexpan in Mexico.

Walker currently trains with 2012 Olympic individual bronze medalist Cian O’Connor of Ireland. She is based at Adena Springs in Aurora, ON.

At the age of 17, Keean White won the Junior/Amateur Championship at the 2000 Royal Horse Show which would prove to be a sign of great things to come. He competed at five consecutive North American Young

Riders’ Championships, winning team gold and individual silver medals riding Libidou in his final appearance in 2003.

With Arriscraft Rocca, White was the traveling alternate for the 2003 Pan American Games and made his Nations’ Cup debut that same year at the Spruce Meadows “Masters” tournament in Calgary, AB. In 2008, White won his first Canadian Show Jumping Championship title with Celena Z before the pair made their World Cup Final debut in Las Vegas in 2009. In 2017, he again contested the annual World Cup Final, enjoying a top 20 finish with For Freedom Z. White has frequently represented Canada in Nations’ Cup competition, most recently as a member of the victorious team in the 2018 Longines Nations’ Cup at CSIO5* Coapexpan, Mexico.

In addition to his own athletic pursuits, White is a prominent Canadian competition organizer. His Angelstone Tournaments hosts several international show jumping events annually in Rockwood, ON.

Tim Wilks grew up on the Isle of Man where his mother’s family ran a riding school. In the summers, they would travel to England to compete, basing out of his grandparent’s Rosehill estate located in Henley-on-Thames.

Eventually, Wilks’s parents decided to relocate permanently to Rosehill, and today run a successful training and sales operation, IN Show Jumpers, headed by Wilks’s mother, Caroline.

Showing great promise as a junior, Wilks was a member of Great Britain’s bronze medal team at the 2012 European Junior Championships and also competed at the 2016 European Young Riders’ Championships. Having spent two years training in Europe with Dutchman Henk Nooran, Wilks went on to represent Team GB in senior competition including at the 2016 Nations’ Cup at CSIO5* Falsterbo, Sweden, where he jumped double-clear riding Quelbora Merze.

Holding dual Canadian and British citizenship, Wilks made the decision to ride for his father’s native country and, in 2019, he made his Canadian Nations’ Cup debut at CSIO5* La Baule, France. Fittingly, he made his first competitive appearance outside of Europe at the 2019 Spruce Meadows ‘Summer Series’ in Calgary, AB.

Success in equestrian sport runs in Wilks’s family. His younger sister, Anna, was the 2015 Junior European Eventing Champion. Now focused solely on show jumping, Anna works alongside her brother at Rosehill where they have approximately 30 horses in training. Despite his busy training and competition schedule, Wilks is committed to daily fitness and is studying towards a degree in business management.

Mark Laskin Chef d’Equipe Birthplace: New York, New York Birthdate: October 19, 1957 Hometown: Langley, British Columbia

A familiar face in Canada’s equestrian community, Mark Laskin has been heavily involved with the Canadian Show Jumping Team for the past three decades, first as a rider, and now as the team’s chef d’équipe. Laskin

officially took over the role on October 1, 2012, after spending several years mentoring under his predecessor, Terrance “Torchy” Millar.

Born in New York, Laskin got his start with horses when his family moved to Edmonton, AB, when he was five. His mother, a long-time horse lover, would often take Laskin to the stables in lieu of leaving him with a babysitter. Since his early beginnings in the sport, Laskin has enjoyed tremendous success both as a rider and coach.

In 2007, Laskin was inducted into the Jump Canada Hall of Fame as part of the gold medal winning team at the 1980 Alternate Olympics held in Rotterdam, the

Netherlands. Riding Damuraz, Laskin had posted one of only three double-clear rounds to lead Canada to victory.

Laskin competed at the grand prix level throughout the United States and Canada from his base in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before returning to Canada in 1997. In partnership with Brian Morton, he owned and operated Equimark Inc., based in Langley, BC. Laskin, who has two children, is now focusing on developing his own training business.
