Khalid Ahmed as a pharmacist in the community I see first hand of the effects of what the nhs is doing the lost resources and lack of accountability

I want to make things transparent and clear for the wider public and beyond

Ghafoor Ahmed I’m interested to paticipate in the social services.

I have been visiting Royal Infirmary Hospital Manchester to visit for the patient, and took some responsibility to serve there some needy people to have with them their social help.

In certain time I happen to meet some Asian patient, to help them for their language barriers from English into Urdu and Punjabi language.

Dr Sarah Ajiboye To contribute to the common good, educate and be educated in the areas of healthy lifestyle and maintaining healthy brains.

Declaration of Interests:Political Party: The Conservative and Unionist PartyFinancial or other interest in the Trust: Individual Health Treatment. Body versus Brain. Treatment and Healing.

Dr Syed Ali I am a retired Scientist who has worked in a UK based high-tech power reactor design and construction company for over 30 years. I am also a long standing resident of south Manchester (over 30 years in West Didsbury). I appreciate the importance of hospitals to local people, particularly of MFT, which is a newly formed foundation trust. This new trust is expected to move towards new goals in enhancing the quality and reputation of patient care. It is particularly challenging at a time when the NHS as a whole is going through changes in governance and funding.

I served as a public Governor at UHSM for eight years and then was re-elected as a public governor in the newly formed MFT for two years (till the end of September 2019). During these years of my involvement I have developed an understanding of the governance and structure of the Foundation Trusts. My interest with several sub-committees has enabled me to gain experience in issues which are

important for the patients. I have represented patients/members’ interests during inspection of hospital hygiene, cleanliness and food standards. Furthermore, as a member of the Annual Plan Advisory Committee I have participated in the conduction of critical reviews of future plans.

I understand that hospital Governors must challenge the Directors and hold them to account, yet maintain good relationships with them. With this objective in view, I would like to be elected as a public Governor for the Manchester constituency.

Christopher James Burge to bring a breath of fresh air to a subject that is close to most peoples hearts and nearer the attitude of the 4 founding fathers as with modern business speak and practices,a lot of original thought and ideas have been lost. compassion and solace are taking a back burner to modern thought and practices and most be regained other wise the original ideas will be lost in the wilderness of modern business speak and become an irrelevant being in the 21 century.

Dr Shiu-Wan Chan The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed an unprecedented challenge to the government, the hospitals and the clinicians who have never seen this new virus before. Many clinicians who are leading the response are not virologists. During this crisis of a global pandemic, we need somebody knowledgeable to lead this fight against the virus. I am a Lecturer and Principal Investigator at The University of Manchester specializing in clinically important viruses including hepatitis C virus, Zika virus and COVID-19 virus. I was the first person to work on hepatitis C virus in the UK in the 80s. I have made significant contribution to the global fight against hepatitis C by discovering a new type of hepatitis C virus which eventually led to the elimination of hepatitis C virus from blood products in developed countries. As a Governor, I will be able to scrutinize and help formulating a workable hospital policy that will see us through this COVID-19 crisis and bring life back to normal. I will be actively taking part in increasing the testing capacity,

implementing a track-and-trace system, maintaining hospital capacity to deal with any second wave, scrutinizing and advising COVID-19 clinical trials and vaccine development, educating clinicians about virus transmission, testing, anti-viral drugs and treatments and maintaining other vital services such as cancer screening and treatments. Beyond the COVID-19 crisis, I will use this as a template in our preparedness for any future pandemics/crisis.

Mohammed Zulficar Ali Choudhary I am passionate about supporting the NHS, mental health and well-being having worked in the software sector at Manchester Metropolitan University, especially on communication challenges.

I am economist with focus on software innovation and applications, which has given me insights and experience of dealing with various people-based situations.

I have successfully completed many EU technology projects such as SIMPATICO, STORM and Cityverve, the largest UK based project in Manchester working with Cisco, BT, Manchester Council, and others. The last two where Internet of Things (IoT) based data machine learning and risk management development, dealing with different cultures, nationalities, and stakeholders.

My personal interests are in visual arts, history, and philosophy. I am also concerned about environmental issues as children and wonderful grandchildren, I want to leave them the environment that they deserve.

My background and experience make me ideally suited to advice on complex management, technology, privacy, data, and policy perspectives.

I would be honoured to contribute as a trustee to making Greater Manchester a pace setter of healthcare, well-being, and support.

If elected trustee I would ensure that:

•Ensure that your voice gets heard, especially of ethnic groups

•We respond better to Covid-19 type emergencies in the future

Tim Ellis I would like to become a governor for the following reasons:

1. I am 100% committed to the NHS and it’s wonderful principle of health services being freely available at the point of need

2. I have been active within the NHS and social care for 30 years as a trade union representative.

3. I am totally against privatisation in the NHS. I’ve seen too many examples of waste and profiteering of our NHS money by private companies.

4. I have experienced as a parent and as a patient the outstanding care provided by the NHS. I want this for future generations.

The people of Manchester passionately support the NHS during covid-19 and before. If elected I will fully represent the people of Manchester with these principles.

Anthony Galpin-Howarth Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a Governor. I currently work as a Practice Manager of a CQC Outstanding GP practice based in West Gorton. I have also worked as a Practice Manager in Hulme and Whalley Range. I therefore feel I have a good knowledge of health care the difficulties patient have in accessing it, along with the very many success stories. I feel this gives me a good base to canvas opinion of the people I will be representing. In my job I have direct contact with MFT and the University giving me an understanding of their pressures and vision. My long term condition means I visit the Manchester Royal Infirmary regularly giving me an insight into how the changes and developments affect patient usability. I have been married to my husband for 5 years and although we are not lucky enough to have children we have young nieces and nephews giving me a glimpse of needs of a child and the stresses of when a child is ill. My role as a Practice Manager also helps with this understanding, as well as

great many other health and social issues. In my spare time I like to walk my dog and support local theatres and art events. I also volunteer as a peer mentor and fundraiser for George House Trust. I am educated to Master level and have over 12 years experience of Primary Care.

Dr Julia Kay Horn I hope you will elect me as a Trust Governor? I have useful skills which I will tell you about. I have a positive attitude and valuable previous experience.

My skills are encouraging others to participate, and gently asking difficult questions. The NHS needs Members, Governors, and Staff more than ever now and it is no exaggeration to say that the NHS has saved my life several times.

I grew up on a Manchester Council Estate; I was schooled in a Comprehensive State School, and experienced special education, mental health support and poverty as a child. I have lived in Fallowfield, Hulme/Moss Side and now Burnage, in very diverse communities. I am aged sixty, have invisible disabilities and used to work for the NHS in forensic mental health.

I was previously a Trust Governor in Lancashire (three years) ending in December 2019. I decided not to continue due to distance and poor public transport links. I realised I am able to do more locally.

I live with my Civil Partner (and dog). I “came out” as a lesbian as a teenager, as well as working as the LGBT worker for a local mental health charity for seven years. I worked as a Housing Officer for the City Council, and worked in a Local Authority women’s hostel. I recently worked as a Teaching Assistant (University of Manchester) teaching Criminology/Law. I am a “Quaker” and I value what faith and Religion contribute to physical health. Thank you for considering me for Governor.

Ian Jones As someone who was born in Wythenshawe Hospital, along with both my children, I have a fond affinity towards healthcare in the area, particularly with the excellent care my son received following his birth in 2014.

I am currently an Associate Vice President for a global bank, however my previous role involved the financing of healthcare products, from basic consumables to large multimillion pound scanners and medical research funding in the life sciences sector.

My clients were based in Europe, Africa and Asia and comprised private medical professionals and clinics, right through to private and public hospital groups, large blue-chip pharmaceutical giants and national governments.

My financial expertise can help with daily funding, the raising of finance, financial planning and cashflow management.

I have lived and worked in the Manchester area my whole life, have attended meetings of local Clinical Commissioning Groups and am keen to see a more joined-up approach to healthcare, from visiting your GP, to hospital treatment, to social care. The NHS is a wonderful part of our society and I want to see it truly flourish to the best of its ability. I believe I can help play a small part in that by promoting the Trust to the public, and developing engagement networks across the UK, and even throughout the world, using my extensive healthcare finance contacts.

I believe I would make an excellent candidate for the role of Governor and look forward to having the opportunity to work closer with the Trust.

Dr Michael Kelly Hello

My name is Michael Kelly, and I am putting myself forward as a candidate for Governor of MFT, to which I was elected in 2017, when the Trust was first initiated.

I have since then endeavoured to fulfil all the duties of an elected Governor, attending all meetings, reading, taking part in discussions, and questioning decisions, speaking up when not satisfied with actions or decisions. What Governors have to do is represent the public, and hold the Non-Executive Directors to account. I have always endeavoured to do this.

Before this, I was a Governor of Wythenshawe Hospital, a member of the Manchester Patients’ Forum (2000-2006), Chair of the LINk (Manchester’s Patient Voice) for 8 years, and a member of the City’s

Patient & Public Advisory Group.

From 2017, I have been fully involved in the development of a major Trust for Manchester, through the merger of the Hospitals of South, Central, and North Manchester Hospitals. The resulting combination of NHS staff and structures has, I believe, led to a significant enhancement of the acute services offered to Manchester and GM residents. Governors have worked on holding the Trust Board to account for actions and decisions, representing the general public, and patients, and ensuring a public, high quality service in difficult circumstances, especially over the last year.

I hope that you will vote for me to continue this careful protection of NHS services through Manchester’s Patient and Public representatives.

Professor Adam Kramer The NHS is an amazing institution that has had a hugely positive impact on the life of myself, my family, and friends. During these difficult and unprecedented times, the heroes of the NHS have worked tirelessly to support our communities and I would love the opportunity to give back, represent the views of patients, and support the leadership of the MFT.

I have a varied background in both the public and private sectors, currently holding a senior leadership position within the financial sector, and recently appointed as an Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester.

The role of Governor is not about operational leadership, but rather providing an elected voice to the members and patients, investing time to understand what is important to them, and representing on their behalf.

As such my commitment and priorities are simple, I will be accessible, support outreach efforts and listen to everyone I can. I will then ensure that the views are well represented and articulated to ensure a clear channel and voice for those who need it.

Dr Emmanuel Olatoye The people of Greater Manchester deserve a very efficient medical service. I have been in Manchester for overc 30 years and have followed satisfactorily, the provision and health facility offered by Manchester NHS. My family have even benefitted from it. Chief George Osundiya In the last two decades or so I have acquired an overall experience as a regular patient in the Manchester University NHS hospitals, and I have been able to see and understand that there is (or should be) an amicable, workable rapport between the staff of the hospitals and the members of the public (patients).

Various issues arise and these will be cultivated by the public and mainly by the staff of the hospitals. It therefore is necessary to provide a group of experienced individuals, known as Governors, to represent the public, who will discuss various problems with the hospital hierarchy. Involved will be diverse issues which one individual, however experienced, will not possess hence it is essential that a group of knowledgeable members of the public are found and are assigned to dissect the arising problems and supply the most acceptable, rapid and effective answers. This is the zenith to which the group who are publicly elected individuals, will aim at.

Backed by a career that include successful progressions as an accountant, a church warden, a lecturer and examiner, a president, a secretary, a magistrate, all positions in several different large organisations, I aim to add, if elected, the various experiences I have accumulated over the years to those of my elected colleagues who will all be charged with ensuring to have a successful term of office as a Governor.

Praise Owoeye I would love to become a governor to get an insight in the healthcare system at a different angle that I got at work experience. I want to be able to develop my organisational skills become more comfortable with making strategic plans. I also would love to learn more about the responsibility recruitment of hospitals and become more educated on the way hospitals and other health care settings improve their performance. I am a very caring person so developing networks that’s will engage the wider community in the Trust’s activities, plans and services really excites me. I am passionate about amplifying voices that are unheard so representing patients, staff ect to the board also really interests me and sounds like an amazing efficient way to improve the hospital and its community.

Julie Reid I would like to be a governor of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

I feel that I have a lot to offer as I am a Manchester councillor and I have been a governor on the Northern Care Alliance, covering hospitals across the North West. This included North Manchester General hospital which has now transferred across to the Central Manchester Foundation Trust. I also sit on the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Joint Health Scrutiny committee. As a Manchester councillor for over 10 years I have been the Scrutiny Chair of Children and Young People overseeing a complete restructure of management and moving to a good status. I have been a governor of primary schools, secondary schools and colleges over 30 years. I am also a lecturer at a further education college. I have taught Access to Nursing courses and Health and Social Care over many years. I would like to use my experience to complement the team of governors already in place at Central Manchester Foundation Trust.

Amer Salam I would like to serve the community of Manchester by becoming a governor at the Trust. I seek your support and ask you to put your faith in me. I shall endeavor to do my best to represent your wishes and aspirations.

I have strong links with the Manchester community and in particular the Muslims. My work at Khizra Mosque and its many projects takes up great deal of my time. I am a member at the Manchester Cathedral, Muslim and Jewish Forum and a trustee on Mac Fest. I am a frequent user since birth of the great services provided by our NHS.

I am married with two children. All of us depend on the NHS. All of us have a stake in the NHS. I feel strongly that we should take notice of the quality of care provided. Celebrate this and grow to support and meet the needs of each individual whatever their background, gender, age, etc.

The NHS board is accountable to the people it serves. I consider it my duty to support the Trust and play an active role in its ever-changing development. The budgetary constraints upon our NHS dictate areas of priority. It is, therefore, important to play a full part in that process to help and assist with our collective views.

Jeff Seneviratne I worked in the NHS for as a Clinical Biochemist for over 40 years, of which 30 years were within Central Manchester, where I had leadership roles in Laboratory Medicine. I have lived in South Manchester since 1973. Following retirement from full time work I was part-time Clinical Lead for the Greater Manchester Pathology Network. I am a passionate believer in the NHS and in the value of cooperation and partnership working. Before retirement I had little experience of the NHS as a patient, however in the last few years I have undergone major surgery and supported my wife after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. Ultimately, I became her carer until her death earlier this year. I have been active in campaigning for improvements in Dementia Care and support for carers, and I am now a member of the Dementia Carers Expert Reference Group of Dementia United, GM Health and Social Care Partnership’s programme of work aimed at improving all aspects of Dementia Care. I now have more time to be involved in

voluntary work and believe that my experiences can bring a valuable contribution to the Council of Governors of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Geraldine Simon I wish to become a Governor for the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust as I want to work with a Trust with an outstanding reputation for patient and staff care.I qualified as a Solicitor in 1984 and since 1995 I have been a Locum Family Law Solicitor in a variety of different-sized firms. I believe that the skills which I can bring to the role are an ordered and rational approach to situations; an ability to work as part of a team from the outset; an ability to communicate information as clearly as possible and an ability to understand facts and information quickly and if necessary to provide advice or guidance upon them. It is important that members of the Trust feel that their views are being listened-to and acted- upon. It is necessary to show understanding and empathy to their individual problems and to try to provide assistance.

From a personal view point members of my family and I have seen at first hand not only the incredible skills of the doctors and nurses at the Trust but also their remarkable care, compassion and good humour in the most challenging of situations and I would be proud to be involved. I believe that the ideals of the NHS and the legal system are very similar. Both should be freely available to all, no matter their race, religion or financial situation. I am excited by the challenge of working in this new environment.
