All uniformed Technical Operations personnel are expected to observe the
rules outlined in this document and to conduct themselves in a courteous
and friendly manner. Delta personnel play a significant role in communicating
Delta’s image of professional service to the traveling public.
In view of this fact, uniformed personnel must observe the standards of
appearance outlined in this policy except where divisional policies, including
this document, provide different requirements. Appropriate undergarments
must be worn at all times while on duty. Personal cleanliness/hygiene should
be maintained at all times. If an employee reports for duty out of uniform,
or in a torn, stained or unsightly uniform, without an acceptable reason, the
employee’s leader may send the employee home until the discrepancy is
corrected.
Hair styles vary considerably. However, hair should be neat and clean and be
maintained in a style that projects a professional image. Extremes of style or
length are not acceptable, subject to job requirements and working con-
ditions. In selecting individual styles, the guidelines listed below are to be
followed:
WOMEN • Long hair must be captured with a clasp, in a single braid, or ponytail and
secured behind their head above the collar or in a hat while working on or
in close proximity to machinery or portable power tools.
• If a hat other than a Delta uniform cap is worn it must be solid black in
color and maintain the hair above the collar and in a manner that does not
create a safety hazard.
• Long hair must be secured by all female employees, whether uniformed
or not, while working on or in close proximity to machinery or portable
power tools (e.g., an Engineer or Material Controller working on or in the
close proximity to machinery or portable power tools.)
Note: This example is not intended to be the entire list of situations requiring
hair to be captured.
MEN • Long hair must be captured with a band and secured behind the head
and above the collar or in a hat. If a hat other than a Delta uniform cap is
worn it must be solid black in color and maintain the hair above the collar
and in a manner that does not create a safety hazard.
• Sideburns should be trimmed horizontally and be no longer than the
bottom of the earlobe.
• Except as noted below, facial hair is acceptable. For purposes of these
guidelines, acceptable standards for facial hair is defined as follows:
° Beards must be worn fully grown and filled in. They must be kept
clean, neat and trimmed close to the face. They must be professional
in appearance and not extreme in style. Beards must be at least ¼
inch, but not more than one inch long.
° “Goatee” which refers to a growth that covers a portion of the chin
and “Circle Goatee” refers to the growth on the chin that may or may
not connect with a mustache are acceptable styles.
° A “Soul Patch” refers to growth below the lower lip. These styles are
acceptable.
• Initial growing of facial hair of any style may be accomplished on duty.
All facial hair must be neatly trimmed, professional in appearance and
contoured to the face at all times consistent with the final style. Cheeks
and throat should remain clean shaven and extreme styles are not
acceptable.
• For safety reasons those employees who are required to wear a face
mask requiring full seal, either as a routine or emergency part of their
job, may not wear a beard. This exception applies to all pilots and certain
mechanics (as determined by Technical Operation management).
• Mustaches must be neatly trimmed, fully grown, and should not extend
over the top of the lip or below the corners of the mouth. Extreme styles
are not acceptable.

UNIFORMED PERSONNEL Uniform shirts are mandatory and may be either long or short sleeve. Cuffs of
long-sleeved shirts must be buttoned at all times while on duty, except when
engaged in work at a place not open to public observation or entry. Shirt tails
must be tucked in. Shorts are authorized.
A solid color turtleneck sweater, sweatshirt, or thermal underwear may be
worn only under a long sleeve uniform shirt.
Coveralls may not be worn when in an area open to public observation
or entry, including the Technical Operations Center. However, in certain
situations in which the uniform will become soiled or damaged (e.g., brake
changes, engine work, aircraft lubrication, etc.), personnel are permitted to
wear coveralls while performing these duties (coveralls should be removed
as soon as work is completed). Coveralls are not to be worn in the cabin
while the aircraft is at the gate awaiting passenger loading or when meeting
the aircraft at the gate or during push back. Coveralls are permitted at any
time in run-up areas or line station hangars. During extreme cold weather,
coveralls are allowed as long as a jacket is worn. The local leader is allowed to
modify these guidelines with approval from the appropriate manager.
NOTE: Local leaders may make exceptions to allow non-Cintas employee
purchased apparel, such as bibs, pants and face masks so long as they are:
• Similar in appearance, style and color to Delta branded uniform (navy,
blue or black) and do not replace a uniform shirt
• No apparel brands or logos may be visible
• Local leaders may amend the policy as needed based on the needs of the
employee and operation
Each employee is responsible for his uniform’s appearance (i.e., keeping it clean
and neat, pressed and brushed as necessary and replacing any item when it
becomes worn to the point of presenting an unprofessional appearance)
NON-UNIFORMED PERSONNELSupervisory/Administrative Personnel - Attire for non-uniformed employees
should be neat, clean and professional in appearance. The minimum
standard required is business casual. Athletic shoes and jeans (on casual
Friday) are allowed so long as they neat, clean and not visibly worn. For PPE
requirements, follow SPPM 74. See also The Way We Fly.
RELAXED DRESS CODE FRIDAYSFor Base, Shops, and Merit personnel, both uniformed and non-uniformed,
jeans are permitted to be worn on Fridays. This is not to be interpreted as
the employee’s last day of work for the week, just Fridays. This excludes
personnel that have the potential for passenger contact.*
Employees are advised to ensure that good judgment is used and to revert to
the appropriate dress code whenever meeting with customers, suppliers, or
external business partners. TechOps employees should apply the following
guidelines should they decide to take advantage of this policy:
• Personnel are permitted to wear jeans in pant length.
• Short length jeans are permitted only in areas where shorts are
authorized.
• Jeans must be black or blue in color and worn at the natural waistline;
they must be in good condition and free from decorations, large
graphics, fraying and tears.
*Personnel with the potential for passenger contact may be allowed to
participate in jeans or alternative non-uniformed events as sanctioned by
leadership for special events/fundraisers, etc.
NAME TAGSIf an employee’s job function would be enhanced by having a name tag other
than the standard employee ID badge the employee may request a name
tag. Name tag requests are sent to Technical Graphics via e-mail to ATL412.
All requests must include the employee’s name and title as it is to be shown
on the name tag and indicate whether a pin or nap-clip back is preferred.
Department numbers will not be put on the standard name tag.

• Basic Garments - A wide variety of shirts, pants, jackets, etc., are available
from Cintas for Technical Operations personnel. These and selected stock
garments are the only authorized uniform items and substitutes must not
be purchased from other sources.
• The sleeves of the long or short-sleeved shirts should not be rolled,
except when engaged in work at a place not open to public observation
or entry. Pant cuffs should not be rolled. Only the top button of the shirt
may be open and only a solid color undershirt may appear above the “V”
of the open collar. The Delta emblem should be positioned over the left
shirt pocket. Additionally, Lead AMTs must wear the lead emblem over
the right shirt pocket.
• Jackets/Coats - A variety of jackets and coats are available from Cintas for
Technical Operations personnel.
• Belts - A black belt must be worn. If employees have other belts that
have previously been offered as an official uniform belt these are also
acceptable.
• Suspenders - Black suspenders are authorized.
• Shoes - Where safety shoes are not required, brown or black conservative
shoes or boots are required. If safety shoes are required, black or brown
plain toed shoes or boots are approved. No extreme styles or heel
heights are permitted.
• Socks - Must be worn and be conservative in style and color.
• Rainwear - Shall be yellow in color. The outerwear available from Cintas is
also approved rain gear.
• Vests - Must be Fluorescent yellow-green, Fluorescent orange-red, or
Fluorescent red. These are the only ANSI ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 approved
colors. International stations may vary due to local regulations.
• Optional U.S. Flag Patch - The flag patch shall be worn on the left sleeve
of any Delta approved uniform garment (e.g., polo shirt, shirt, and/or
jacket). The flag patch will be centered horizontally, approximately two
inches below the seam of the shoulder, and with the union (stars) at the
upper left if viewed by another person.
• T-shirts - Must be the TechOps branded T-shirts available through Cintas.
Approved areas where uniform T-shirts can be worn are as follows:
Hangar, Engine shops, Component shops, and Stores.
• Hats - The current Delta branded uniform and company purchased
special occasion cap/hat is the only authorized cap/hat for the uniform
and, if worn, the hat/cap bill must be to the front. No stocking caps/knit
caps other than those authorized by TOP for cold weather are permitted
except as described above for long hair. Caps/hats cannot be altered to
accommodate hairstyles that do not allow for the proper fit of the hat/cap.
• Tattoos - Visible tattoos must not be vulgar, obscene (including
profanity or nudity), offensive, controversial, inflammatory, or otherwise
inappropriate in nature. The local leader has the discretion to determine
if a tattoo is appropriate or should be covered.
• Ear Gauges/Piercings - Ear gauges must be solid (fully enclosed), flesh
colored and no greater than the size of a dime. To avoid the risk of
becoming FOD, ensure the entire ear lobe and ear gauge is covered by
an adhesive flesh toned bandage at all times.
• Piercings-
° Men may wear one small stud or hoop no larger than ¼ inch in
diameter in the ear lobe only.
° Women may wear no more than two pair of earrings and placed in the
ear lobe only.
Notes: Company purchased special occasion hats may be worn at anytime so
long as they are consistent with the uniform standards defined in this policy
and are approved by the local leader.
For certain special occasions, events, or fundraisers local leaders may ap-
prove the wearing of other shirts such as a red shirt day or Delta T-shirt day.
(All other T-Shirt and uniform requirements must be followed.) Such events
must be approved by local leaders prior to the events and should be for a
limited period of time, usually one day.
If an AMT works in a non-line area and is required to perform work at the
Line, a uniform shirt will not be required. All others performing work at the
Line will be required to wear a standard collared uniform shirt.
