Company Profileidec’s reputation for unrivalled outcomes is a consequence of more than twenty years of exceptional service to a wide variety of clients such as builders, individuals, corporate entities, community groups, etc.. Over this period we have amassed considerable experience and expertise in the design, fabrication and erection of steel structures both domestically and internationally.

Corporate idec began in 1990 as Big Country Buildings by partners Peter Gartshore and Ross Leggatt. Management has now shifted to a board of directors with Glenn Gibson as Chief Executive Officer. Glenn is an engineer by profession and comes with local and international experience.

Consolidating and maintaining growth, continuous staff training and staff integration are high on my agenda as we see the company forge ahead. Glenn Gibson (idec CEO).

The fundamental ethos of achieving as a team underpins the daily life at idec. Since it takes the effective working of every section to see a project through to a timely completion, an emphasis on working as a team is essential to the idec way. Staff at idec totals more than 100 and includes engineers, drafting personnel, project managers, pre-construction consultants, structural steel fabricators, blasters and spray painters, administration personnel, riggers and construction teams.

We are the only custom engineered building company in Australia that offers this ‘one stop shop’ service with our own people. Our inherent understanding of site specific construction principles, a resolute attitude demanding continual corporate and individual improvement, together with stringent workplace health and safety requirements (federally accredited) ensures that idec is ideally placed to meet all conditions required by government and non-government entities.

The capability to prepare the engineering design and workshop detail drawings in-house provides an extra level of control and streamlines communication between the builder, engineer and fabricator.

idec has been engaged to fabricate and install steelwork in numerous hospitals including the Wesley, Prince Charles, Gold Coast University, Ipswich and Mackay Base hospitals. Most of the installations were required to be done whilst the hospitals were still functional.

For schools and university colleges idec has either completed fabrication and installation of steelwork, or design and construct of steelwork, or the complete building. Projects include lecture halls, sports halls, multi-purpose covers and classroom blocks.

idec is particularly adept at working with community groups such as school P&Cs in working through the requirements and budgets to reach the best outcome for the school.

Protection from sun and weather and providing a year round sporting and recreational facility is high on the agenda of many sporting, community and educational groups.

idec has completed numerous sporting and recreational covers and enclosures including bowling green covers, multipurpose halls, swimming pool enclosures and an equestrian centre.

The curved clear span roof structure of the State Equestrian Centre at Caboolture was designed and constructed by idec. It was designed to conform to the architect’s design and has a clear span of 66m.

We have designed and built several bowling club covers. Apart from protecting the patrons from the elements, the additional benefits of an all-weather bowls green cover have become apparent with increased patronage to the clubs as well as increased community interest. Examples include Mt Gravatt Bowls Club in Brisbane, North Mackay and City Bowls in Mackay and the Urangan Bowls Club at Hervey Bay to name a few.

Many schools find building large multi-purpose halls to be advantageous to both themselves and their community. The Cannon Hill Anglican College required a cover that was to be in excess of 40m by 40m but only have 6 supporting columns. Utilising the tapered columns and rafters and smart engineering, idec produced an excellent result.

Recreational examples:PCYC Sports Stadium – Mackay, QldMt Gravatt Bowls Club Cover - Mt Gravatt, QldUrangan Bowls Club Cover – Urangan, QldRedlands College Sports Hall - Wellington Point, QldEquestrian Centre – Caboolture, Qld
