Innovative Systems and Technologies – Our Centres of ExcellenceOur innovative waste treatment solutions are underpinned by exceptional equipment & processing technologies, which we refer to as our ‘Centres of Excellence’.

For waste treatment processes to meet the stringent criteria Toxfree applies to Centres of Excellence, the following must be achieved:

• The equipment must be ‘best applicable technology’ and the manufacturer must be reputable, having high safety and quality values;

• The treatment process enables sustainable environmental outcomes in consideration of the waste hierarchy;

• Fundamentally there is a high level of automation in the process to reduce workplace health and safety risks;

• The process sets an industry benchmark; and

• Treatment costs are commensurate with the risk and benefi cial outcomes, however importantly offer our customers value for money.

Adopting this focus and acknowledging our aspiration to be the best service provider in the hazardous, chemical and complex waste space, Toxfree has developed many Centres of Excellence across Australia. These innovative and state of the art treatment capabilities are recognised by government regulators and the broader waste industry as best practise, providing customers with peace of mind that their most diffi cult waste streams and residues have been lawfully and sustainably dealt with.

Current Centres of Excellence enable Toxfree to be the leaders in automated densifi cation of high volume small packaged waste, household paint tins, to maximise recycling and create an alternate fuel (HazPak), recovering mercury from fl uorescent tubes (Balcan), vacuum distillation of perchloroethylene (PERC) to create a reusable dry cleaning fl uid (C-Vap) and treatment of a variety of persistent organic pollutants and other intractable wastes (PLASCON® and base catalyst dechlorination – BCD) to name a few.

R&D is instrumental at Toxfree and we have a number of new innovations we are pursuing including; energy from waste, dewatering drill muds and treatment of perfl uorooctane sulfonate (PFOS & PFOA) a man-made fl uorosurfactant and global pollutant typically found in fi re-fi ghting foam.

Technical Expertise & Experience – Our Leading PeopleToxfree is acknowledged as a leader in providing solutions to hazardous, chemical and complex waste problems, a recognition driven by the high calibre of our people. We pride ourselves on having the best and most comprehensive technical team across the nation to directly benefi t our customers. We undertake the following steps to achieve this:

Did You Know?Toxfree has been the preferred service provider for the national ChemClear program managed by Agsafe for over 10 years. The longevity and success of this contract for Toxfree has been through embracing a partnership approach where we work closely with our customers, providing a fi rst class and tailored service to consistently exceed their needs.

What our customer says!‘On establishing our waste reduction project in 2003 ChemClear was seeking a waste contractor that had the ability and foresight to grow with us as our national initiative took shape as we rolled out across Australia. Our initial pilot project commenced in 2003, and, since that fi rst collection in Sydney we have tweaked and refi ned our methodologies to become an integrated partnership that has successfully collected and destructed over 450 tonne of agvet chemical across Australia.

Toxfree and their experienced team continue to be an integral part of the ChemClear success story.’

CHEMICAL IMMOBILISATION & SOLIDIFICATION TECHNOLOGYToxfree’s Chemical Immobilisation and Solidifi cation (CIS) technology has been recognised as a world leading technology for the immobilisation of both organic and inorganic contaminants. The Toxfree CIS technology has been researched, developed and verifi ed over a number of years in Australia and other countries.

The key features of the technology include:

• Treatment of hazardous wastes by conversion into safe solids for sustainable disposal in a practical, cost effi cient and environmentally friendly method;

• Lower bulk out factor compared with conventional CIS and macro-encapsulation technologies resulting in less waste going to landfi ll;

• Testing by numerous independent laboratories to confi rm that the treated material is capable of meeting the most stringent environmental legislation; and

• Completion of numerous tests, pilot studies treatment projects for both waste generators and waste treatment companies.

The effectiveness of the technology has been verifi ed by the CRC for Waste Management and Pollution Control (UNSW), the University of Nevada USA, and the Materials Institute of Western Australia.

Toxfree CIS Technology meets regulatory acceptance and Toxfree has received many immobilisation and treatment approvals for its use. These approvals include waste materials containing organic compounds such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), cyanides and phenols, and metals such as arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium.

Toxfree is committed to providing its clients with the most effective and effi cient CIS outcome for any project; large or small.

The SolutionToxfree has developed the use of the Dolocrete® Chemical Immobilisation and Solidifi cation (CIS) technology to immobilise the arsenic so that it is safe for disposal. The treatment involves the mixing of Dolocrete® reagents with the residue using Toxfree’s mobile treatment plant.

PLASCON TECHNOLOGYThe PLASCON® process is a compact plasma torch developed by CSIRO and further refi ned by Toxfree as a state of the art hazardous waste treatment process for persistent organic pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyl’s (PCB’S).

PLASCON® utilises pyrolysis in an inert environment, which is achieved through a patented plasma arc process. A mixture of waste liquid and oxygen is injected radially into the plasma with an average mixing temperature at the injection manifold exceeding 3000°C destroying the molecules, converting them into atoms and ions. Contaminants are eliminated with a destruction effi ciency in excess of 99.9999%, which exceeds the most stringent standards set by government agencies around the world.

The LWD unit is evidence of Toxfree’s use of innovative solutions to benefi t our customers and the environment. LWD involves the benefi cial reuse of water-based drilling by-products enhancing minimal disturbance outcomes during drilling operations.
