    ****CAPE TOWN, including Table Bay:

    APPROACHES: Depth in the entrance channel is 15.9 m. at Chart Datum.

    PILOTAGE: Compulsory except for vessels exempted by law, and is

    available throughout 24 hours except for oil tankers and other vessels

    carrying dangerous cargoes. Vessels should send their request for a Pilot72 hours prior to arrival and then give one hours notice to the Port Captain,

    call sign Port Operations, on VHF Channel 16, working Channel 12.

    Vessels should update their ETA when 10 nautical miles seaward of the

    breakwater head light.

    Pilot boat fitted with multi-channel VHF. Two pilot boats, one with black

    hull and white upperworks and one with an orange hull and white upperworks.

    Pilot boards at position main breakwater bearing 155_(T)_2.5 nautical miles.

    ANCHORAGES: Area to the NE and east of pilot boarding station

    (Fairway Buoy) in depth 20.0 25.0 m.

    PRATIQUE: Pratique granted at first port of entry in South Africa. Pratique

    message 24 hours prior to arrival to Port Health at port of entry. If radio

    pratique not granted International Code of Signal flag Q to be flown until

    ship has been cleared. Valid certificates must be held for yellow fever. Ships

    from eastern ports must also have valid certificates for cholera and typhoid.

    VHF: Cape Town Port Control listens on Channel 16 and works on

    Channels 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 29 throughout 24 hours.

    TUGS: Join vessel approximately 0.25 nautical miles from harbourentrance.

    Four diesel Voith Schneider tugs with a bollard pull of 43 tons. All tugs are

    fitted for firefighting and salvage. Tugs wires used at no extra charge.

    Stand-by tugs compulsory for tankers discharging crude.

    BERTHS: Chart datum is that referred to in the South African Tide Tables

    published by The Hydrographer of South African Navy.

    *****SENEGAL

    APPROACHES: Passage between Goree Island and east coast of

    Cap-Vert Peninsula is forbidden.

    The instructions are marked by a line of port hand buoys numbered 2, 4,

    6, 8 and 10, equidistant one from the other, between Cap Manuel and the

    islands southern tip.

    By night, the line is marked by the (087_(T)) south limit of the red sector

    of Goree Islands light.

    Ships must by-pass South and East Goree and go to the north of Buoy

    No. 12 (light buoy).

    On leaving the port they must sail between Buoy No. 12 andTacoma Buoy.

    Channel depth: The channel is swept to 11.0 m.

    Harbour Entrance: The entrance width is 250 m. facing north south.

    PILOTAGE: Available throughout 24 hours. Pilots meet vessels 1.4 n.m.

    off the north point of Goree Island in a naturally sheltered area. Pilots listen

    on VHF Channel 16 and work on Channel 14.

    VHF: The Port Captains office, pilot station and tugs are equipped with

    VHF, with the following Channels:

    Channel 16 used by vessels approaching to contact Pilot Station or Port

    Captains Office.

    Channel 12 used during manoeuvres for communications between Pilots

    and tugs.

    Channel 6 for general use.

    Tug requirements should be notified to Agent by fax, telephone or email,

    or to Port Control by VHF upon arrival.

    VTS/RADAR: Port radar service is operated by Port Control. Passive

    Radar Surveillance (PRS) can be reached through VHF Channels 16 and 14.Two PRS units of which one has a 5 mile range and another 43 mile range.

    TUGS: Not compulsory. Operated by a private company, five tugs available

    up to 2,000 h.p. (bollard pull 24 tons). All tugs are equipped with anti-pollution

    and firefighting equipment.

    BERTHS: More than half of quay length has depths of 8.0 11.0 m.

    The southern area is mostly allocated to general cargoes, containers,

    goods in transit to Mali and passenger traffic. Three berths are assigned to

    Ro-Ro vessels, 12 to multi-purpose vessels and two for tugs and launches.

    The northern area is dotted with specific facilities for bulk liquids (refined

    hydrocarbons, oil, wine, etc.) and bulk solids (minerals, wheat, rice, sulphur,

    etc.), general cargoes and equipped with a petroleum wharf dredged to

    12.0 m. Its container terminal handles more than 70% of the container traffic
