    Printed electronics

A set of printing methods used to createelectrical devices such as photovoltaics, displays, batteries and sensors on various

substrates. The term printed electronics is actually

related to organic electronics or plasticelectronics.

    Printing techniques are

    Nano-imprinting

    Solid state embossing

    Screen printing

    Inkjet printing

    Roll to roll printing

Limitation of existing techniquesRollerball pen method, a rollerball pen filled with conductive silver ink.

Inherent technical limitations that restrict its commercial applicability:

To dispense ink from pen, asufficient frictional pressurebetween ball and substrate mustbe generated. The requiredoperational pressures candamage surfaces and reduce thedielectric performances of softsubstrate materials, such aspolymers.

    Substrate must be sufficientlyrough.

The rough surface in an organicdielectric component cansignificantly affect the electricalperformance of a device.

Few drawbacks that limits itsapplicability to certain commercial-purpose printing.Organic inks are highly sensitive to thejetting condition, including thetemperature, viscosity, concentration, and humidity.
