What year did Capitol Reef become a n official National Park

How was Capitol Reef formed (from an earth science perceptive)

The park was formed between15 and20 million years ago during weathering and erosion resulting in the “water pocket fold” (a waterpoket fold is a nearly 100-mile long warp in the Earth's crust, the Water pocket Fold is a classic monocline) which later became the national park capitol reef

What type of rocks can be found in Capitol Reef National Park

Sedimentary Igneous metamorphic

sandstone basalt there are no metamorphic rocks found in capitol reef national park

shale Andesite

Sedimentary rocks are rocks that build up of stuff like ash and dirt over time

Igneous rocks are rocks that are from volcano's and or build up of volcano lava

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that are deep in the earth and formed from heat & pressure

There are 3 different types of rocks sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic

What special landforms and features can be found inside your park

The Waterpocket Fold is a nearly 100-mile long warp in the Earth's crust. It is one of capitol reefs many landforms and features. Others include the pinyon-juniper, perennial streams, dry washes and rock cliffs. A pioyon-juniper is a type of ecosystem found throughout mountains and west lands. A dry wash is a dry stream bed. A rock cliff is just a cliff made of rock. A perennial stream is a stream or river (channel) that has continuous flow all year round

How is the land inside your park currently changing?

• New plants and animals are always coming and going

• The waterpoket folds are slowly changing over billions and billions of years

What environmental issues are affecting your park

• Temperature and weathering are big environmental issues because June and July are their thunderstorm months and capitol reef is mainly rock so when the rain hits some of the loose rocks will be carried away by water

How is technology used to preserve and maintain your park

They use technology in their road materials, to find lost hikers, to send visitors information on the park, to treat wastewater, to cool & heat buildings, and to tell people the stories about the park (through movies, website, podcasts, etc).
