Network Rail Case Study
We learned from the Network Rail Case Study:• Any major engineering project requires planning for activities,
sequencing, timing, and budgeting. • Critical Path Analysis includes:
◦ Purpose◦ Objective◦ Process◦ Coordination◦ Advantages and Disadvantages◦ Conclusion
What did we learn?
• Critical Path Analysis takes planning which require diagrams, graphs, and charts.
• Data needs to be collected in order to plan accordingly.• Roles need to be assigned.• In order to plan a project there has to a purpose.• After purpose is pinpointed, group will find the process,
co-ordination, and everything else will fall into place.

Map Of the Plan
Phase I
Phase II
MAP OF THE PROPOSED PLAN
Plan Logistics
• Project Scope◦ Four lane controlled access expressway facility
• Project Limits◦ From: 1.0 miles east of FM 886 to: 0.5 mile west
of Showers Road

Path Analysis Time Frame
How we went about gathering information
• Interview with John Womack; Expansion Consultant for the City of Peñitas
• Texdot.gov
• The Monitor Newspaper
Purpose/ Advantages:
• Relief traffic flow
• Circumvent the school zones, lower
speed limits and avoid traffic light
• Attract new businesses to the city
Objective:
Creation of/Improvements on:• Construction of four lane
controlled access highway• Reduce traffic congestion• Improve
◦ Traffic Mobility◦ Traffic Safety◦ Corridor Connectivity
Resource: (Pharr District Texas Department of Transportation, 2015)
Process:
• Plan and Design• Court Hearings• Purchasing lands• Local, County, State and Federal
government need to come to agreement on funds
Resource: (Pharr District Texas Department of Transportation, 2015)
Coordination:
• Decision TreeChoosing most appropriate:
○ Plan○ Design
• Engineers created several planned routes the final plan route was the US 83 La Joya Relief Route (Womack, 2015)
Disadvantages
• Gas wells affected (Womack, 2015)• Condemnation process (Womack, 2015)• Unexpectable and intangible aspects of the project
(Womack, 2015)• “Divert some of the 40,000 cars on the stretch of U.S. 83
away from the cities’ cores, potentially costing local businesses a reliable stream of customers” (Janes, 2011)
• Construction time from start to finish
Conclusion:
• Use of Critical Path Analysis on the project of U.S. 83 La Joya Relief Route.
• Expose project details of Relief Route
• Understand how Leadership can be shown in different organizations.
