Association of Artists and Craftsmen of Porter County - A Not-For-Profit Arts Organization Captured Moments The Works of Debra Simanski, Sharon Goodall, and Susan Brandstetter During the month of July, the Chesterton Art Center will be featuring the work of Debra Simanski, Sharon Goodall, and Susan Brandstetter in an exhibit titled, "Captured Moments". The exhibit will begin July 2 and hang through the end of the month. Guests are invited to meet the artists at the Opening Reception on Saturday, July 13 from 1-4 pm. Debra Simanski is a lifetime artist working out of her studio on Porter Beach. She is third generation here on the shores of Lake Michigan. Prior to retirement, Debra had her own graphic arts business in Plymouth, IN. For over 40 years, she owned and operated her business designing logos, newspaper/magazine ads, display materials, catalogs, and promotional campaigns for small businesses, corporations, and political campaigns. Although she favors painting with oils, this exhibit is featuring Debra's love for the Dunes with many acrylic paintings done over the last 5 years. Sharon Goodall's love of art began while growing up in Northwest Indiana. At a very young age, Sharon learned to draw from her artistically gifted father. Throughout her school years, she learned many forms of art, including drawing, ceramics, fine art, and art history. In the last year, Sharon joined the Duneland Plein Air Painters. Painting directly from nature has proven to be extremely challenging and has opened up a whole new world of oppor- tunity in her artistic journey. When she isn't painting, she is practicing yoga, walking her dogs on the beach, and enjoying time with her grandchildren. Susan Brandstetter and her family are longtime residents of Porter Beach. Susan graduated in 1997 from the University of Illinois in Chicago with a degree in Business Administration. With no formal art training, Susan fell into welding by taking a class at Ivy Tech. This led to her creating metal sculp- tures. Many of her inspirations come from children's drawings, mosaics, family pets, nature, friends, and old-time fiddle music. Susan moved to Porter Beach full-time in 1990. Now that her children are older, she is finding time to venture into some new and exciting art projects. This exhibit will feature Susan's unique custom art pieces using a combination of recycled bottle caps and mosaic tiles. The "Captured Moments" exhibit will open on July 1 and be on display through July 31 at the Chester- ton Art Center, with the Opening Reception taking place on Saturday, July 13 from 1-4.
