WELDING

In our welding lab, safety is our number one priority! In preparing for your welding course, you must provide leather welding gloves, protective eyewear, and a welding helmet. Welding jackets should also be worn throughout the course, which are provided. Please also wear appropriate clothing to class every night to ensure your safety. Proper clothing includes long pants or jeans with no holes or frays, a long sleeve shirt, and work boots- please, no tennis shoes.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (VTE711)This 80 hour course will provide participants with a thorough, technical understanding of shielded metal arcwelding, welding safety, power sources (AC and DC),electrode classifications, and electrode selection (E6010& 7018). It also provides training to develop the skillsnecessary to make quality shielded metal arc welds inall positions (flat, horizontal, vertical up, and overhead)on mild 3/8 inch steel. Single and multiple passes usingmild steel, low hydrogen, and iron powder electrodes willbe covered. Upon successful completion, the studentshould be able to perform production welding, millwrightwork, and general maintenance welding. To certify,trainees must complete an additional 40-hour weldingcourse in preparation for the following skills tests: filletand groove welds done in the flat, horizontal, vertical, andoverhead positions (visual inspection and AWS guidedbend tests performed by an independent CWI).
