Resume

•Resume is different from CV

•Sell yourself

•Format (1 page unless you have STRONG reason to go to 2 page)

• 10 seconds highlight

•Focus on result, NOT process

•Start with action word, shows you are doing, not talking

•Must show your determination (that you are working towards your goal), although Career Objective is Optional in the Resume

•Selective working experience BUT no big loss in time continuity

•Tailor made (highlight matching criteria, no rubbish)

•Rubbish means EASY achievement, so put only relatively scarce experience

•Brief ACTIVE description of each experience

•May put hobbies (if special)

•Don’t make Resume too Mechanical

•Fair game: Everything on the Resume must be ready to be discussed, if you are unsure how to explain a particular point, DON’T put that on resume

Cover Letter

•Format: SHORT and CONCISE

•PLAIN English, no technicals

•Shows strong intention, common sense or knowledge in the first paragraph

•Highlight matching in the 2nd paragraph

•Optional:highlight your comparative advantage (that average grad doesn’t have) in 3rd paragraph

•Short, polite and strong ending
