The last decade has seen a tremendous change in the

attitude of people towards their careers. Gone are thedays when the only choices we had after completingschool were Engineering, Medicine, CharteredAccountant, B.Com, and Law besides a few others.

Todays generation has endless career options open infront of it (from Nuclear Scientist to DJ).

y Growth of service sector, especially IT. In spite of therecent recession in the US economy, IT has beengrowing at an explosive rate with the requirement for

skilled manpower in this sector desperately fallingshort of demand. As a result, countries that face such ashortage are busy recruiting manpower (on workpermits) from countries, which have an adequatesupply.

y Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization (LPG)are also opening new opportunities for differentpeople.

y Simply put, with so much happening so quickly, most of usdo not know what to do. Taking the informationmentioned above into consideration and other factors likeParental Pressure, Peer Pressure, Environmental and SocialNorms, the issue (i.e. your career decision) gets all themore complicated.

y Another very crucial need also exists and that is anopportunity to identify and then develop those traits of 

your personality, which with respect to todays scenario isabsolutely necessary irrespective of ones profession. Someof these traits are the ability to work in teams, leadership,creativity, communication skills etc.

y There are two options you prefer after you completeyour B.Tech degree. If you are economically efficientand dont need a job, it is better you go for your further

studies. A specialization will always earn you moresalary as well as priority during interviews and of course sound grip over subject. Otherwise you can findsome job.
