Work Experience Programme
Work experience isn’t just about having something to add onto your CV. It’s
about helping you understand the huge variety of professions open to you
after you leave school or university. It allows you the opportunity to engage
with the working world to learn about what really goes on.
In the 2016 report by High Fliers Research, almost half the recruiters who
took part in the survey warned “that graduates who have had no previous
work experience at all are unlikely to be successful during the selection
process and have little or no chance of receiving a job offer for their
organisations’ graduate programmes.” The full report can be read here.
Work experience can be vital for a number of vocational degrees such as
Medicine, Teaching, Vet Science, Nursing and Architecture. However, it is
just as important for pupils who have no idea about their future career path
as it allows them the chance to explore the roles available before making any
final decisions. It allows them to talk to those in the industry and begin to
building a network of contacts, shows they are curious, inquisitive, and
prepared to challenge themselves. It enables them to showcase their skills,
develop new ones, and begin to learn about office politics.
In another new initiative this year, the Careers Department is delighted to
announce that, from June 2017, all Fifth Form pupils will be invited to take
part in work experience during the week commencing 26 June 2017 (after
their GCSE exams have finished). Letters will be sent to all Fifth Form
parents and guardians detailing the programme in the next few weeks.
NOW OPEN! - External Work Experience Programmes: LAW
Pinsent Masons, an international law firm in London, has just opened their
2017 work experience online application.

Writing a Personal Statement
Battling with your thoughts about writing a personal statement?
Want to know how to begin?
These two superb resources are available in the Careers Room.
“Pupils have only ONE opportunity to show their favourite universities how enthusiastic and suitable they are for their chosen course.
Part textbook and part workbook, the Personal Statement Planner is designed to be referred to and written in, and is an invaluable new way to
help applicants make the most of their one chance to impress.”
“How can you stand out from your peers and
write a winning personal statement? The UCAS
personal statement is such an important means
of differentiation between applicants and it's es-
sential to get it right! Unlike any other guide,
60 Successful Personal Statements bases itself
