Carnegie Mellon Orientation 2008 Opening Day Sunday, August 17 Parking on Campus on Sunday, August 17 When you arrive on campus, members of the campus community will direct you to parking on campus and in nearby locations. Wheelchair accessible and special needs parking will be available in the East Campus Garage (next to the University Center). Room Key Pick-Up There are four locations for residence hall key pick-up on Sunday, August 17: Morewood Gardens, Doherty House, Donner House and Rodef Sholem Synagogue which is located at 4905 Fifth Avenue. Key pick-up will be open from 9am until 2pm. on Sunday, August 17. If you arrive after 2pm. go to the first floor of Morewood Gardens E-tower to obtain keys and Orientation materials. Orientation Counselors and Resident Assistants as well as members of the Housing and Dining Services staff will be on-site and available in various halls to assist you while moving in. 8:00am – 5:00pm Orientation Information Kirr Commons, University Center (UC) Lobby Stop by and get information on where to go and what to do. Orientation staff will be on hand to answer your questions and help you. You can also purchase a ticket for the Gateway Clipper Thursday night cruise. 8:30am – 4:00pm ID Card Photo Carnegie Mellon Card Office, Lower Level Warner Hall A15 Enrollment Services The HUB, Lower Level Warner Hall A12 Contact an Assistant Director of Enrollment Services in The HUB for information regarding: the financial aid application process, financial need analysis determination, financial aid programs, student and parent loans, student

account payment plans, enrollment/financial aid questions, PlaidCa$h accounts, academic and financial aid forms. The Assistant Directors are available

Please note that PNC Bank has been selected as Carnegie Mellon preferred banking partner. Students with a PNC account can link it to their Carnegie Mellon ID card, which will then function as an ATM card. 10:00am – 8:00pm Entropy UC, First Floor

Here you'll find everything from organic treats to laundry detergent. You can find snacks, fruit, candy, juice, soft-drinks, water, microwaveable meals and personal products. Most importantly, there is a coffee bar!

10:00am – 4:00pm University Stores UC

Please come in and explore the Carnegie Mellon Bookstore. We're here to serve you offering textbooks and class supplies, sweatshirts and--most importantly—house supplies! Also visit the computer area to purchase specific networking supplies such as pass-throughs, wired or wireless Ethernet cards, cables, software or peripherals.

Hillel Jewish University Center (JUC) 4607 Forbes Ave (at the corner of Forbes Avenue and S. Craig Street) After moving in, take a break and meet other Jewish incoming freshman and their parents and the Hillel JUC staff.

activities and discussions. Designed to acclimate you to your new campus home, this day will be both informative and fun.

‘Community Collage’ The Community Collage is an exciting presentation by your fellow

students of their experiences, personal reflections and cultural performances which all help to shape the diversity of the Carnegie Mellon community. The Community Collage will allow you to gain a foundation for dialogue, cross-cultural and cross-community interaction, as well as a sense of the respect and appreciation for cultural differences within our community. The talents and stories of our students will certainly entertain and amaze you!

The Class of 2012 gathers together to celebrate the beginning of your academic career at Carnegie Mellon. This tradition brings together members of our campus to celebrate your arrival to our community. The keynote speaker will be Jeff Zaslow, alumni of Carnegie Mellon and Wall Street Columnist who worked with Carnegie Mellon Professor, Randy Pausch on The Last Lecture.

6:00pm – 7:30pm Convocation Dinner Wiegand Gymnasium, UC Celebrate the Class of 2012 with faculty, classmates and members of the administration. 6:45pm – 7:30pm Board Buses for Clippership Cruise Morewood Parking Lot

The last bus will leave promptly at 7:30pm. Make sure you have your Clippership ticket.

8:00pm – 11:00pm Gateway Clippership Cruise Great music, three rivers, 900 classmates and a double-decker riverboat! Get ready to dance the night away as you cruise down the rivers of Pittsburgh. Don’t forget your ticket! 8:30pm – 11:30pm Casino Night with Ballroom Dancing Rangos Ballroom and Kirr Commons, UC Try your luck at blackjack, roulette and other games of chance. Prizes, refreshments including a chocolate fountain and music will be provided. Members of the Ballroom Dance Club will be on hand to teach you how to work the dance floor! Salsa lessons will be offered from 8:00pm- 9:00pm and a performance by the Ballroom Dance members will take place at 10:00pm.

A sampling of local food vendors will be on hand distributing tasty samples and raffling off prizes. Also don't forget to stop by the Pittsburgh Connections table to sign up to visit some of Pittsburgh's hottest attractions. This is definitely an event you don't want to miss!!

Get ready for the annual House Wars! Each color group will compete in a series of physical and intellectual challenges. Come out to represent your group, and see who will be the first to hoist the Carnegie Cup! The event is co-sponsored by the Student Dormitory Council.

Last bus will leave campus at 4pm and return from Target at 4:30pm.
