Chairman’s MessageDear Villagers,I was been reading some historical facts about Old Windsor recently which said that there has been evidence of human activity in the area since 4100 BC. How amazing is that! Just goes to show that for literally thousands of years people have chosen to live in this fantastic village. No wonder every year we come together to celebrate this village and the community spirit that makes it such a special place to live by holding our very own Carnival, special in that the festivities go on all weekend.
Kicking the weekend off is Friday night, Donkey Derby night. Generously sponsored by The Old Windsor Dental Practice this year, for which we are very grateful. It is a fun evening for everyone, donkey racing, the tote, the beer tent and all the fun of the fair, what is not to love? All capped off when darkness falls by a fabulous firework display.
The highlight of the weekend though has to be the Carnival Procession on Saturday in my opinion. What could be better than to see the hard work put in by local organizations on all the brilliantly decorated floats and the creative walking parties. When I was on the floats as a boy, I loved seeing all my friends and family lining the route to support us. If you can support the parade by waving as it goes by and donating pennies to the children it would be fantastic and something the children will remember always.
The Carnival festivities continue on Sunday. There is lots going on, we have Old Windsor’s Got Talent, judged and staged by the Riverside Players. I am astounded at the high level of talent the village continually has to offer, it’s not to be missed. As always there will be lots of sporting events, netball, tennis and football tournaments. If you are not taking part, please come along and join in the fun by cheering them on. The afternoon will end with a picnic in the park with music from Highly Strung. Bring a picnic or visit one of the food stalls that will be present and join in with a lovely, hopefully sunny, afternoon.
The Carnival would not happen without the Committee who work tirelessly throughout the year, and especially over Carnival weekend, to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The committee is an amazing group of individuals who go above and beyond for the Village and I feel privileged to work with them. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work and dedication.
If you would like to join the committee you would be made very welcome. We are always looking for ways to make the Carnival better and many hands make light work. We would also greatly appreciate any help you can offer over the weekend, so please do get in touch.
It only remains for me to say, Happy Carnival everyone, I hope you all have a great time.
Jonathan StaceyOld Windsor Carnival Committee Chairman.
Please support our advertisers... it is through their advertising that we are able to produce copies of this programme free of
charge for all households in the village.

Farewell Pete ReddyI am very sorry to report that Carnival stalwart and Vice President, Pete Reddy, recently lost his long and brave battle with cancer and MS.
Pete joined the Carnival committee in the late-1970s as a ‘helping hand’ – an always-needed and much valued role. In 1982 Pete took on organising the Donkey Derby from the Norris family who had run it since its inception. Pete, with ever-increasing family involvement, continued to run the Donkey Derby until 2014; a 33-year stint during which the event contributed significantly to the Carnival’s annual surplus.
In addition Pete was always involved in other aspects of the Carnival throughout the year and particularly on the Carnival weekend. Pete was appointed a Vice President of the Carnival last year in recognition of his contribution over some 40 years. He will be remembered for his contribution to many village organisations and activities and with admiration and affection by the Carnival committee, particularly on Donkey Derby evenings.

The sport of hunting with falcons and hawks is believed to date back at least 2,000 years and
to have originated in the Far East. As world trade grew, so falconry spread to Europe, where
it quickly became a popular pastime of royals and aristocrats, and for many other people a way of putting fresh meat onto the table. Today it is hugely popular with people of all
ages rediscovering the excitement and skills of working with birds of prey.
Michael will be displaying and flying owls, falcons, hawks and other birds of prey. The
Eagle Owl, the peoples choice, gliding with huge wings across the arena never fails to impress.
Next year – it could be you!If you run, or are involved in, a group which could possibly feature in our centre ring on
Carnival Day, please conact us. Dancers, gymnastics, martial arts... the sky’s the limit!

space for children and families, a rehabilitation gym, plus eight acres of stunning outdoor space by a tranquil lakeside location.
Through the generosity of our community we have almost made this £22 million dream a reality. Please help use raise the remaining £2.3 million so that we can continue to care for
and support our community for generations to come.

Stalls
If you are interested in booking a stall for next year, please contact Susan Pickles, T: 07464 242940, E: [email protected].
DonationsThose watching the procession are warmly invited to drop coins into the collecting buckets as the parade passes. Why not take this opportunity to empty out your ‘shrapnel’ coin jar and help the Carnival raise more for its charities and good causes?

Why I love Old Windsor
I have lived in Old Windsor all my life. It’s such a special place to live. There are lots of beautiful places to walk to:The River Thames, Great Park and Windsor Castle are a few.
I’ve learnt to walk and ride my bike here.To swim, dance and play piano. So many people give their time to help us grow.Brownies, Rainbows, kids’ discos and this show.
I can walk to school, the park and friends’ houses.Together we floss, hide rocks and watch the Royal Wedding. Our parents help at school and climb on top of Carnival lorries,So we can have fun and no worries.
We are a village of many talents. We know where to go for great food, haircuts, balloons or a delicious cake.Friends come to watch me dance and ask if I’m okay.We help if someone falls off their bike and when times are bad.In my village I don’t often feel sad.
I live in Old Windsor. It’s the best place for me.It’s helping me to be the best I can be.
