Veniceestablishedthatitwasnotallowedtodressmasksaroundthecityduringthenight.IntheXVIIIcentury,thecongregationofmaskedpeoplealongwiththeextravagantcafés,restaurants,andtheatreswhereattractiveperformanceswereplayed,becameonethemostgorgeouseventinallEurope.Manyfamousandimportantpeople,suchaspolitics,princes,richheirs,nobles,cametoenjoythisqueerandeccentricoccasionwhilesquanderinginestimablefortunes.Thecitywasfullofpeopledressedwiththe“bautta”thecharacteristiccostumemadeofasimplecloakwithalong-nosedmask.Everyoneworemasks,whichpermittedtopeopletogoaroundthecityincognitoandenjoyinglifewithitsexcesses

withoutanydivisionofclass.

Nowadays,theVenetianCarnival,evenwithsomedifferentaspectsstillmaintainsitsmainprinciplethatbyhidingyourface,themaskallowsyoutoplayatotallydifferentrolegivingyouthelibertytoassumeanotherpersonality.

EveryyearthereisamainsubjectthatisthethreadofallperformancesofmanifestationsarrangedbytheMunicipality.

Apartformthat,everywherestreet-artistsentertainwithmusic,curiousandoriginalperformancesgivinganexcellententertainmentforthecityvisitors.
