Take baby stepsAdd some new activities while improving your old ones to help ease any stress dur-ing the transition. Consider the traditional AP® Biology lab using pill bugs and choice chambers as an easy starting point.

Look out for frustrationFor some teachers, the idea of taking control of their experiments will be very excit-ing at the onset of the process. However, many will get frustrated as they realize the increased responsibilities and ambiguity they will be forced to deal with during the course.

Adjust, adapt, acceptAs you move toward an inquiry-based classroom, your role will start to change. It will take time for your questioning skills, an appropriate classroom atmosphere, and the buy-in of your students to develop. Remember, this is a process. Remain flexible and optimistic.
