Dear Friends of Caroline Center,

We are so grateful to you. Your generosity has made it possible for capable, highly motivatedwomen to receive a Caroline Center education and to begin new careers that have changed theirlives. Your gift to Caroline Center shows that you share our confidence and faith in our alumnae. You know that they are prepared to change for the better, to step confidently into their careers, and to give back even more to our community and the city. On behalf of our alumnae, thank youfor your caring and commitment.

Here are just a few highlights of the past year that you made possible with your support:

• We provided an education, career and life skills training to 180 women who are among the best nursing assistants and pharmacy technicians practicing in the state

• An ambitious Annual Fund goal of $270,000 was exceeded, and most every area of fundraising showed an increase

• “The Sound of Music Sing-A-Long” at the Hippodrome Theatre raised over $51,000 for the overall program

• A new Academic and Career Advancement program for alumnae was approved

• New community partnerships and the strengthening of long-time foundation and institutional friendships resulted in new grants to Caroline Center amounting to more than $315,000

• We recognized alumna Nicole Green as Alumna of the Year for her outstanding work as a certified nursing assistant at Maria Healthcare

• Exceptional AmeriCorps volunteers, volunteer teachers and workshop leaders, and counseling interns made it possible for your contribution to directly support our educational program

In the coming year, we will engage in a Strategic Planning process with our board of trusteesthat will ensure that your gift continues to create the greatest possible benefit for the womenwe serve and that your generosity strengthens the SSND mission and charism at Caroline Cen-ter.

All of these accomplishments and more show that you are committed to making real and pos-itive change happen, one woman at a time.

Donors Mark and Lisa Johnson were introduced to Caroline Center about eight years agowhen Lisa began volunteering as a Writing Skills instructor for the trainees. “I believe I gotas much out of the experience as the women,” she says. More recently, the Johnsons decidedto make Caroline Center a primary recipient of their charitable giving through their regularand generous support of the Annual Fund.

There are very few times in life that you have the chance to help change the life of someone whoreally wants to change. Caroline Center provides that opportunity. There is no more gratifying feel-ing than seeing a woman at Caroline Center move from someone who has had a life of very littlehope to someone who is confident, proud, and ready to join the workforce in a meaningful way.

In order for our city and country to grow, we have to find ways to help people who have strug-gled financially and in other ways to get back into the workforce. Caroline Center provides oneof the best vehicles for people who have been underemployed and unemployed to get workthat will improve their economic status.

As donors to Caroline Center, what we find most inspirational is how apparent it is that thetrainees know and appreciate how much the staff and teachers are supporting their efforts andencouraging their success. The staff and teachers provide not only an education for the womenbut important day-to-day life skills as well. All you have to do to see the real change CarolineCenter is making in the lives of women is to attend a graduation ceremony.

Lastly, there are very few charities where you can see directly the impact that your donation ismaking. We would say that if donors want to give to an organization that is really improving livesand helping the economy and also support a program where their donation will have an immediateimpact and where they can actually see that the work is being done by people who care moreabout others than themselves, then giving to Caroline Center should be at the very top of their list.

On April 6, 2013, Caroline Center hosted the premiere of “The Sound of Music Sing-a-Long” atthe Hippodrome Theatre. The event attracted musical fans of all ages, and it helped to bringthe Caroline Center story to nearly 1,200 enthusiastic theatre-goers.

We want to especially thank our emcee for the evening – actor and Baltimore celebrity DavidDeBoy – and his incredible Bawlmer hons, who generously donated their time and significanttalents to set the stage for a fun sing-a-long experience and to facilitate the costume paradeand contest. Caroline Center is also very grateful to WBAL radio for creating and airing a seriesof professionally produced spots over many weeks that significantly helped to promote theevent to the community. We also want to thank the Hippodrome Theatre for helping CarolineCenter bring this unique event to Baltimore. Theatre staff offered excellent professional supportand guidance throughout, and they were very generous in providing additional pro bono mar-keting opportunities.

Finally, we want to thank our very generous sponsors, our many good friends, and everyonewho came to the theatre to enjoy the classic sing-a-long film. With all of this generous support,Caroline Center was able to raise $51,085 for its educational program.

The Nancy B. Leahy Scholars Program was created by John I. Leahy to honor the memory ofhis wife, Nancy, who gave selflessly of her time, talents, and resources to the women of Car-oline Center. The program provides essential support to Caroline Center trainees by helpingto underwrite educational costs. We are grateful to the donors who have so generously sup-ported the scholars program this year and to the Leahy family for their ongoing support andfor their vision and wisdom, which enabled Caroline Center to establish its thriving PharmacyTechnician Program.
