Herbarium Wintergarden
Chelsea, New York City

New York City.
Herbal wintergarden by the High Line in in Chelsea, NYC. The design concept is based on releasing herbal scents around site. These scents are produced with herbs grown in the public wintergarden and processed in the herbal distillery in situ the gardening school, one of the building’s many programmes. Other programs introdu-ced in the proposal are:
* Massage and aromatherapy studio* School library* Public cafés* Rooftop gardens* Lecture halls

Inspiration taken from the blog Scents and the City by Jason Logan 2009;
” New York secretes its fullest range of smells in the summer; disgusting or enticing, delicate or over-powering, they are liberated by the heat. So one swel-tering weekend, I set out to navigate the city by nose. As my nostrils led me from Manhattan’s northernmost end to its southern tip, some prosaic scents recurred (cigarette butts; suntan lotion; fried foods); some were singular and sublime (a delicate trail of flowers mingling with Indian curry around 34th Street); while others proved revoltingly unique (the garbage outside a nail salon). Some smells reminded me of other places and some will forever remind me of New York.”

* One acre of land, if farmed vertically, can grow as much food as a regular outdoor farm on four to six acres
* Edible walls are catching on as more companies find clever ways of creating panels that can hold seeds and plants and thereby grow fruit, vegetable and herbs in less space than regular gardens
* The New York Times has examined how the more than $27 billion that U.S. residents spend annually on alternative and complementary medicine provides the ”most telling evidence of Americans’ dissatisfac-tion with traditional health care.

This proposal is designed to cater for different types of events. Due
to a simple rotating mechanism the platforms may be turned to
any direction wished for. For example, one platform could face the
sun whilst the other could face the big screen. If both platforms are
faced towards each other, some type of an art performance could
take place. The christmas tree could also fit in the middle of the
platform.
The cage type of construction provides an outdoor enclosure; both
sun and shadow can be enjoyed with the benefits to the curved glue
laminated timber ribs. The ribs also enables views through the mar-
ket square, as blocking views was not desired in this proposal.
Dover, Kent
The Fountain cover proposal is a competition entry for the Dover Arts Development in 2011.
The brief asked to design a cover for the fountain placed in the market square of Dover. The structure must facilitate the viewing of events on the Big Screen. Optionally, it may accommodate other programmes during the course of the year. Other forms of use of the structure needed to be invented, in order to promote new forms of occupying public space. How could the artefact provide a platform for curating community and cultural events?

Flood Emergency Platform
Canary Wharf, London
12
Canary Wharf, London
This 300 metre boulevard works as a platformto board when a severe flood occurs in London. During non- flood it serves as an alternative route from Wes-teferry to Limehouse reach. Instead of chosing a longer way behind buildings, this proposal stretches along the River Thames, providing the user river scenery to enjoy. During normal weather circumstances the platform hosts following public programs:
* Panorama restaurant* Blood donation centre* Outdoor cinema* A boat hire station * Residential modular housing * Tennis court
In the event of severe flooding the platform transforms into programs to occupy the residents around canary wharf:
* First aid station* Life boat station* Helipad* Soupkitchen
The platform is floating, however it is supported by hydrolic poles to enable it to easily adjust with the flood and tidal level, that can range up to 5 metres in the worst case scenario. The platform is covered in grass, which makes it into a contribution to the London Green Grid, simultaneoulsy functions as a public park.
Site and plan of proposal
The London Green Grid
The Green Grid concept aims to provide new and existing East London residents and workers with a multi-functional network of strategic open space and in turn improve quality of life.
The aim of the Green Grid is to create a network of interlinked, multi-functional and high quality open spaces that connect with town centres, public transport nodes, the countryside in the urban fringe, the Thames and major employment and residential areas.
The Green Grid will:
* Provide new and enhance existing public open spaces, reducing areas of deficiency* Provide public access along the major river and green areas* Provide a range of formal and informal recreationaluses and landscapes, promoting healthy living* Provide new and enhance existing wildlife sites* Manage water collection, cleansing and flood risk with mul-ti-functional spaces* Provide beautiful, diverse and managed greeninfrastructure to the highest standards for peopleand wildlife

Ylläs Äkäslompolo 2010
This project was the winning proposal in the competition of a new ski resort in the Finnish Lapland.
The proposal has taken inspiration from natu-ral elements and its most important concept is the ski in-out route that enables skiers to ski from the cottage to slopes.
My contribution in this project started from the beginning with researching design inspira-tion, sketching masterplans, and further down the project I used ArchiCad to create a base for the 3D visualizers to process.

Mentogou Eco Valley 2010
An urban planning project located close to Shanghai, China.
This new ecological “Silicon Valley” includes 9 research institutes and companies over a 28 square km area planned for 50 000 inhabi-tants.
In this project I helped the project archi-tects to place their designs concepts on the masterplan 3D model, create elevation in Photoshop and Illustrator using their hand sketches, and converted text into infographics which were easily interpreted on the Chinese market.
