Communion OfferingCommunion Offering

to Help Foster Childrento Help Foster Children O u r D e c e m b e r communion offering will go to Foster Angels of South Texas, which

offers foster children what they need most at the right moment and can make a lifetime of difference. Foster Angels helps the more than 2,500 foster children in this region to be exposed to positive influences, activities, and experiences that help them reach their full potential. One goal for the children is to develop social competence and self-assurance by ensuring their basic needs are met and providing them with the means to participate in activities that emphasize social interactions.

Foster Angels works with Child Protective S e r v i c e s , C o u r t Appointed Specia l Advocates, Foster Youth Life Investment Partners, and Spaulding for Children to obtain information about needs of the foster children. A n e x a m p l e i s assistance to Justin, a 14-year-old in foster care, who had never shown an interest in extracurricular activities. When he became interested in joining the band and playing trombone, his foster parents could not afford the additional expense. And to Tamara, a 17-year-old in foster care since 13, who is graduating this year and would like to attend her senior prom but does not have funds to

purchase a prom dress. Others are funds for a child to have a birthday party, to purchase sports equipment, or to attend summer camp.

Foster Angels keeps administrative costs to a minimum, saying, “This way, our funds can help the children directly, as our objective is to put the money to work directly for them. All of the funding we receive remains in our community.” Our December communion offering will go to Foster Angels. Please open your heart and wallet to this important organization.

Estimate of Estimate of

Giving for 2014Giving for 2014 If you have not already done so, please prayerfully consider your gift to the church for the coming year

and return your completed 2014 Estimate of Giving card to the church, either by mail or by dropping it in an offering bucket on Sunday morning. What is God asking you to do? Scripture encourages us to give proportionately to our income. Your estimate of giving confirms your desire to be fruitful and enables Island in the Son UMC to plan a budget and implement ministries throughout the year.

Don’t see your special day mentioned here? It just means we don’t have it on record. Please let us know the date so

we can update our database.

Church Mortgage PayChurch Mortgage Pay--downdown Celebrate your special day (or days) by giving a dollar ($1) for each year you have been alive on your birthday, for each year you have been married on your anniversary, or for any other event for which you wish to rejoice (be creative–for example, commemorate a child or grandchild’s birthday). All donations will go towards paying down the church mortgage

(please designate your gift as “bu i ld ing loan” or “church mortgage.”) Please remember that this is in addition to your pledge – not part of it.

Prayer Bears If you know of someone in need of

God’s love and healing power, feel free to take a prayer bear. Donations of

new or clean, gently-used bears can be placed in the basket in the foyer (special favorites seem to

be the LARGER “huggable” bears).
