ProDESKTOP Case Tutorial 2

Section 1 During the course of this tutorial I will lead you through the creation of a case using Pro/Desktop. Feel free to copy the design exactly to gain confidence and learn how to use the program or if you are already confident, use it to create your own design. 1. Open up Pro/DESKTOP. Click on File : New : New Design : OK 2. Change toolbars so they look like page below

6. Select Sketch Dimension tool.

7. Measure one of the lines by putting the pointer over the line and then clicking on it to select it and then dragging away. Release to give measurement. Repeat this for the line at 90 deg to the first. Make sure that you select the line first so that it goes red before dragging.

by double clicking on them and change to 75mm

9. Select Autoscale button to maximize drawing.

10. Select the Extrude profile button and a text window should appear like the one below.

11. Call the extrusion

Case and make sure the Add material and Above workplane boxes are checked. Type in a distance of 25mm.

12. You have now created a solid block. If you want to see it click on the View isometric button.

13. Click on the Select face tool and click on the top surface of your case (you will need to click just inside the top lines, the lines will turn blue this is called pre-highlighting).

14.The top surface should turn red and you need to click on the Shell solids button to open the text box. Type in an offset of 10mm.

ProDESKTOP Case Tutorial 4 16. Well done you should now have created a case for your box and it should look like the picture below. Click on the happy face to view it from all angles.

17. We will now create a top for your case. Save your work as Case, and start a new design, (Remember it’s file : new : design). Re –do steps 3-10 to create a square 75mm. x 75mm. 18. This time call the extrusion Cover and extrude it for 5mm.

19. Save your work and call it cover.

20. Now we are going to combine the case and the cover. Make sure you are working on your case design and click on Assembly then add component.

22. The cover should appear something like this, depending on how you drew it. If you can’t see it you might need to Autoscale your drawing, or the case might be sitting exactly on your cover and you might be able to move the case out of the way using the select parts button.

23. Click on the Select faces tool and click on the top face of your case so that it turns red (remember the lines need to pre-highlight, turn blue). 24. Now use your arrow keys on the keyboard to turn the case so you can see the bottom of the cover.

25. While holding the Shift Key down on the keyboard click on the bottom face of the cover (remember to click just inside).

28. With the select faces tool still selected chose the front of your case and hold shift down again when choosing the front side of your cover.

30. From Assembly choose Align. 31. Do the same to the sides of the case and the cover.

Save your work!

32. It should now look like this! 33. What about rounding off the sides. In order to do this choose the Select Lines tool and choose all the corners of the case, don’t forget to hold shift down. In order to get at the corners in the back you can turn the box around using the arrow keys, or iff you are carefull can select the lines through the case they

will pre-highlight as shown in the picture.

ProDESKTOP Case Tutorial 7 34. Once you have selected all the lines (or you can do them on at a time) click on the Round Edges tool and type in a radius of 10 35. Notice you will be able select the corners of the cover but you will not be able to round them in this drawing. In order to do this you will need to open up the original cover design.

36. Once the drawing is open you will now be able to repeat steps 33 and 34. 37. While we are here lets round off the top edges of the cover. To do this click on the select faces tool and select the top face (It will turn red) 38. Now choose the Round Edges tool again and this time in the dialogue box type in a value of 3mm.

39. Save the cover and re-open the case design notice that the changes have also occurred on the cover of the case. Save this work also. 40. Well done! Treat yourself to another click on the smiley face!
