Fosters contribute to sustainable communities with renewable energy
measures…
BriefRoddons Housing Associa
tion, based in March, Cambridge, was formed in 2007, following the t
ransfer of 3,754 homes from Fenland
District Council.
With the transfer came a pledge from Roddons to build
500 new affordable homes in Fenland, enabling com
munities such as Parson
Drove to grow in a sustainable way.
Foster Property Maintenance (FPM) acquired land and came up with a design solution f
or Roddons early on in the process; meeting both
their brief and local planning conditions.
DeliveryTo achieve Level 3 of the C
ode for Sustainable Homes, FPM will be entrusting its spec
ialist sister company Foster Renewable Energies
(FRE) with the tasks of assessing, designing and inst
alling energy measures. These will minimise the impa
ct of building these new homes
on the environment.
ChallengesComplying with the require
d code level requires a lot of collaboration with a ran
ge of organisations. FPM is working both with Architects
Richard Pike Associates and Fenland District Counc
il to ensure the success of this scheme.
FPM summary“Building these quality hom
es will transform the lives of local people, providing
spacious,
energy efficient places to live in the heart of rural Fen
land.” David Haynes, Director
Customer satisfaction“FPM and their consultants hav
e worked tirelessly to get this scheme off the ground
and
working closely with us to provide much-needed ac
commodation in Parson Drive.”

Foster looks after its own and benefits the local economy…BriefFoster Property Maintenance (FPM) needed larger premises for efficient and effective delivery of local contracts and to grow the business. The company wanted additional office, warehouse and yard space. This would have several uses: to provide premises for start-up company
Foster Renewable Energies (FRE), to house a headquarters and future training school for Foster Property Maintenance (FPM) and to bring an
income stream for FPM through third party lettings. FPM acted as the main contractor, completing works in two phases.DeliveryFPM used its own staff and operatives to deliver both phases. It employed subcontractors for groundworks, steelwork and cladding, electrical and mechanical installations. FPM ensured they were based within a 15 mile radius of the site; giving the local economy the benefit
of development work.
FPM purpose built a head office and warehouses with storage yards, including access roads and new services onto the site between 2006and 2007. From 2010 to 2011 the team constructed new units and associated car parking.ChallengesFPM first purchased land in 2006, so this project has been a while in the making. Thanks to appointing a first rate design team andsubsequently obtaining planning permission for a commercial business park, a potentially tedious process was well executed from start tofinish.
FPM summary “This was a worthwhile project for us to embark on as it has seen local businesses expandfurther, benefiting the local economy.”
Steve Foster, DirectorCustomer satisfaction”The finished commercial premises were constructed to the high standard that we knew FPMwould achieve.”
